The last game you completed, and rating.

Just completed Desu Ex Human Revolution again. Game don't like me though :( ... was doing a second try on the Pacifist run, but it refused to give it to me. What I know I never killed anyone, so somehow someone that I knocked out and had to move must have died, even if I was careful not moving bodies unless I had to.

I always like to go stealthy with my tranquilizers but can't resist hacking bots/turrets which always means someone dies in my playthroughs of Deus Ex.

Just completed Nier Automata - or should I say I say the credits role after 16 hours of gameplay. It came as a bit of a surprise as the game didn't feel quite ready to end but apparently you play it through multiple times from a different characters perspective each time. Poor port aside, this is a cracking and quirky little game. There are loads of nice little touches such as where it turns in to a 2D old school 1942 style shooter and the arcade style mini games while hacking, complete with subtle 8 bit style music. 7.5/10 so far.

I tried the game a while back, but was put off by the first part when you meet the guy robot and the old buildings. The world felt so empty with nothing but generic copy and paste enemies. Quickly gave up after that. Maybe I should pick it up again.

No need to force yourself if you didn't like it, it's hardly for everyone. The world has to be like that, it's a part of the weird apocalyptic fairytale'ish setting, toy-like robots mixed with serious themes etc. The game plays with such stuff, it would make no sense for the world to be populated. Plus, it had a minuscule budget, like every Nier.

Nothing quite like it, especially if you take your time to discover everything and get every ending. The sublime OST, all the little clever quirks, ferocious combat, mind-boggling story structure etc.

I can totally understand people not liking it because of the graphics or because it isn't standard etc. but I try to not judge games like that, what's actually there ***s on the majority of games released in the last few years in terms of creativity. But, yeah, you stopped very early on:p

Vampyr - Decent game. Quite a few plot holes though and the combat is annoying at times. 6/10 at current price. 7/10 if you can get it sub £15.

Temple of Azathoth 8/10.

Amazing to think that this was the first proper Quake map someone had designed. Quite possibly the best I've played in that regard.

Transistor 8/10
Just finished Transistor by Supergiant Games, brilliant. Took me a long while to understand the wonderfully infinite combat mechanics but it was worth it, stroke of design genius. Thought I would find a favourite loadout and stick with it but it was more satisfying to constantly tinker to try, for example, prioritizing passive capabilities and just one or two attacks. Much recommended.

Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy Remastered. Missed this the first time around but heard it was good. For those who have never heard of it, it's a supernatural interactive story/movie type game that uses quick time events quite a bit. Now I now there isn't a lot of love for QTEs these days and granted sometimes in the game they felt a bit but unnecessary however it was actually mostly really good fun and on occasion, they really fitted well with what was going on an even had a rhythm to time your presses to which actually felt really good. I suppose the QTEs are a bit different to what you might imagine in that they aren't key presses but rather they are was directional inputs from the right and left controller stick (I don't think m&kb would really work for this game). Anyway, it was an intriguing story and had some proper adult scenes too which is a rarity now, never mind when it was originally released 13 years ago now. Gotta love the hexagonal boobs! 8/10

Mickey Mouse and the Castle of Illusion 8/10

This, with Sonic and Castle Crashers are my go to games with my lad. We completed it last weekend after many months of dabblng. It really is a well made game, which looks and sounds nice. It does get trickier later on (too tricky for a 5yr old) however a fun experience and I think we sunk over 20hrs into it! It's also on Android I noticed so may grab it for the lad.

Dying Light 9/10

I was going to mark this as 8/10 as trying to think back to the greats I didn't enjoy it that much but that would be a little unfair as games will never be as good as they were as I was younger (a lot younger!) and more invested.

That said this game is really, really good. The melee combat is the best I have encountered. The graphics and sound awesome. The day and night cycle look amazing and have real significance because of the consequences of being out at night. I did find myself rushing through the end of the game as by that time you have seen everything really. Also, I wanted to actually finish a game before starting a new one! They are still adding to the game over 3 years on, such dedication. I have never felt vertigo either like the last bit of the game. I have seen people complain about the end of the game but I thought it was fitting and enjoyed it. The game also has some of the best gun play. When you do finally access weapons they handle really nicely.

Recommended and I believe it will be a tenner later when (presumably) the Steam sale starts which makes it an absolute bargain.

The Walking Dead: Michonne

Forgot I had this so gave it a go, having enjoyed the previous 2 seasons. Pretty short and can be done under 4 hours. Story is weakest so far (haven't played S3 mind) bit still good.

Biggest gripe is the gameplay though, it essentially feels like a giant cutscene with a lot of QTEs thrown in. Half the time I found my hands drifting off the keyboard while watching long cutscenes and then find myself scrambling to hit the QTE buttons. Very little walking around or interactivity.

7/10 for the story, very low score for how the game plays

Completed Fear 2. Not as good as the first one, but enjoyed it. 8/10.

I see that Fear 3 is on offer for £3 odd but seems to have mixed reviews...

In my opinion, it felt even less like a F.E.A.R. title than the second. So, as long as you bear that in mind, I think you'll probably be quite happy to play it through. Just don't expect it to capture the original atmosphere and feel of the first game/expansions. It's okay, though.

That's what made the first one great, the atmosphere. Took a bit of time getting into the second but it picked up. Think I'll get it as it's cheap...

Just finished Ghost Recon Wildlands.

Really fun to begin with, using the drone to find the enemies before sneaking in and taking them out was really enjoyable. Also the world is absolutely beautiful. However after a while it got incredibly repetitive, their is no real variety in what you do between each zone and by the end I was quite fed up and just wanted to get it finished.

Battletech 7/10

Would have been 6/10, but I bumped up the score by a point as I got it on that Amazon glitch for a tenner.

Good game, particularly from what appears to be a relatively small development company. Not worth the triple A price tag they were charging on Steam.

Just completed this, was good run and gun fun :) 9/10 as it was going back to it's roots.
