Firewatch

Surprisingly emotional starting scene and it didn't even involve any gameplay. Beautiful game throughout, from art direction to music and its use of the engine. As many know quite short though with under 4 hours of gameplay and very little to do after completion, there is a developer commentary playthrough available after finishing though if you're that inclined.

Story is great but of course, THAT ENDING. Can see why it's polarising as we get teased with some government conspiracy but then truth can be strange than fiction, right ;)

Well worth it for under a fiver so long as you're into your walking simulators.

7.5/10

Battletech.
Not finished as such (those who've played will understand) but finished the meat of it.
Scratched a bit of the "X-com style game" itch, found the tech tree side of things a bit shallow but there's a slightly deeper meta there if you put enough work into it (Banshee Tank and Sleepy Awesome etc).
The story is a bit... eh, you're basically a bit part in someone else's fairy tale, otherwise decent.

8/10

Just wanted to let you know how grateful I am for my introduction to such an amazing experience. Not sure that the rest of my life has improved all that much but I'll always have Dishonored! Thank you.

Took a while to get all 80, but it was an experience I'd highly recommend to anyone. I'd give it a nigh on perfect score.

This is awesome, I’m so so glad you enjoyed it my man. I don’t think I’ve ever got all achievements on a game, damn.

Hit me up on Steam if you ever want to play some MP, don’t mind what game.

Just completed the following last night, had started both a while back but only got around to finishing

Shadow of Mordor - story had me confused, going on/off for the last year probably didn't help. Overall 7/10

Brothers; a tale of two sons - story telling, music, atmosphere were all great. No dialogues throughout but easy to follow/understand. A couple of challenges took me a while but the rest were fine. Overall 9/10, if it was a native PC game rather than a port, it would've receive the last point.

XCOM 2 - 9.5/10

Brilliant game, also seem to have sorted out the stuttering that happened at release. Really brilliant game, very immersive.

Dying Light: The Following

Certainly a different take on the original with the buggy but good change of pace. Took things pretty slowly so got 25 hours out of the expansion alone on top of the 50 for the original game. Really can't argue with the value for money they have provided.

Missions and story aren't quite as interesting and engaging though, nowhere near the brown pants moments and tension from the original game. Once you get the UV light and electrified cage, going out at night is a doddle too.

7.5/10

Divinity original sin enhanced tactician mode - 8.5/10

Could have so easily been a 10 but the last few dungeons which required me to use a guide were a bit challenging and too heavily reliant on the perception trait.
Also the inventory system is a MESS.

I loved the first one, 2nd one wasn't as good and had poor performance, didn't even really look any better.

XCOM 2 - 9.5/10

Brilliant game, also seem to have sorted out the stuttering that happened at release. Really brilliant game, very immersive.

How long did it take to get past the initial difficulty spike? I tried it recently and got annihilated at the gates.

Completed Fear 2. Not as good as the first one, but enjoyed it. 8/10.

I see that Fear 3 is on offer for £3 odd but seems to have mixed reviews...

Never played them, but 3 quid is a bargain even for 30 minutes of entertainment.

StarCraft II

Not really completed per say. But I feel like I've had my time with it. The story mode is actually pretty decent for an RTS. The online is still very active for such an old title. The coop modes are very fun. Tons of replay value. Very competitive. The online portion is free to play. And it's a great game to watch.

The only downside is that it's very tough. But I think it's what makes it a great esport.

I'd rate it 9/10

Far Cry 5 - 7/10 - too short and irritating forced engagement with story elements dragging you out of the game. Also got annoyed with the fact that enemies and vehicles would disappear if you moved more then a few hundred yards away from them.

Rise of the tomb raider 6/10

What an overhyped pile of generic junk.
Awful story and characters.
Level design is ok mainly because of some decent platforming moments but the area it's set in hasn't been made really that interesting and felt that it could have been done by being set over multiple locations.

Combat is terrible apart from the end zone enemies where you actually have to use your brain a little and the fights feel more dynamic.

Game starts by enforcing stealth on you then proceeds to say f that here is an assault rifle and shotgun and the only really effect arrow type (poison) ends up being really scarce in the late game. Trash design.

The boss fights are stupid.

No where near as good as TR 2013.

Spec Ops: The line - 5/10
For me, this game has an excellent idea but a really poor execution. The personality on paper is great, the plot inventive for a first person shooter but sadly it fell flat for me.
The gameplay is poor and unvaried, the execution of the plot lacked any engrossing factor, lack of real exploration combined with subpar corridors makes it low-tier in regards to FPS, the plot twist mid-game and end-game fell flat for me.

I've heard great things but all in all, I had to force myself to finish it and I can't give a game more than 5/10 for that.

Brother: A tale of two sons - 8/10
Just a really really beautiful game with a really beautiful story. I have mixed feelings about this title because when I played it, I remember it being interesting and intriguing but not blowing me away. However looking back at the game, I have so many beautiful memories of such a short game which makes me feel like its a title which leaves a far more lasting impact on you than you realise.

I'd give it an 8.5 if I hadn't given DOS an 8.5 The truth is, for what Brother is, its amazing... its a fairy tale journey through a mystical land but its a very very linear title and sadly if you're going for a fully linear experience, then you need to hit perfect notes to get into the 10 category.

Divinity Original Sin - 8.5/10
Turn-based RPG which offers combat complexity beyond anything I've played before in a fantasy format. Finding a candle a light and planting some oil near it to cause a path of fire which enemies need to traverse through followed my a poison dart to cause explosions galore, then my caster using rain to create a smoke screen for enemies to come out of the smoke towards me and get completely electrocutes to hell and back. Negatives included a really poor inventory system and the final temple's puzzles being so overly complex and reliant on the really annoying teleporting pyramids took off a few points. Oh and the end-game dungeon required x ammount of blood stones without the game ever really telling you this.

I'm torn between giving it a 8.5 or a 9 but I'll go towards an 8.5 because I feel like there is some personality missing in this game and the inventory system just screams a little too much laziness. Also the overarching plot and the end of time was a bit dry.

To the Moon - 6.0

Great story, bit lazy in the gameplay department. Pacing could have been better. Music was excellent. Its just a really fantastic story but a really poor game so I'm conflicted.

Rise of The Tomb Raider - 9/10

Second time playing through this and I think I appreciated it even more this time as I realise there aren't many games that are such joy to play through. The game looks stunning and the level design for traversal and platforming continues to surprise and delight you progress through the game. Loved the puzzles in the tombs also. The combat isn't particularly challenging but it is fun and I love that it gives you such a variety of tools / weapons to tackle each situation. Can't wait for Shadow!
