Outer Worlds Spacers Choice edition - 6.5/10

Found it to be an okay game. Felt like a rinse and repeat of Fallout but just did not feel exciting enough. I did not even bother to use the upgrade machine to upgrade weapons or armor as you just get stuff from the enemies you kill. Story was fairly predictable and towards the end, I just wanted to finish it off. The final mission was not even as challenging or long as I would have expected. The DLCs were goodish but again more of the same all over again. I started initially reading the messages etc on terminals but there is so much reading involved to find information, in the end I was just doing it as a tickbox exercise in case there were hidden passwords etc that get auto added to your dialogue options anyway.
Like someone said to me, its essentially fallout in space but more boring, in my view.
Also it's free on epic today :D.

Just finished Half Life Alyx, started on my original Vive but felt didn't do it justice, started again on my Varjo Aero and stunning, gameplay and atmosphere great. On the same level as Half Life 2 I think and the showcase for VR. Also a couple of great mods, Gunman is brilliant

Tinykin - 9.5/10

Throroughly excellent Pikmin clone. Easily would have been a 10/10 but the Steam achievements were a bit janky which required some messing about to register. But got there in the end with another 100% completed game. This year has been great for Steam games.

Hellblade - Senua's Sacrific. No other game has made me feel like this did to the point where I had to keep taking breaks to get it finished, a very unique experience, some of the puzzles are ok but nothing new and the combat was the biggest let down as it didn't really add anything and became tedious pretty quick.

8/10.

Playing it on headphones was really draining, they nailed what they had set out to do. It's more an experience than a game. As a game, it's passable but as an experience, it's one of a kind.

Halo Infinite, 7.5/10

Gotta give it to 343 Industries, they seem to make a modern Halo as if it's done by the OG's, and in a lot of ways better too.
Wasn't sure if I'd like this one being open world, but it worked so well and was just endless vast beauty to look at with very rare bits of loading, played flawlessly at native 4K max settings capped to 60fps (cap all my games to match my 4k 60hz tv) and smashed it out using a controller on the sofa.

Really liked 4 as well, the 5th game was a bit meh in places but they learnt from their mistake.

There's some decent extra thought put into this everywhere, especially with boss battles etc... Nicely done.
Pretty pleasing to have played all of them on the new rig and be up to date again.
I think with Halo it's just less is more, and the stellar voice acting/relationship between John and Cortana is outstanding.

Played a couple of great titles this month so far:

Baldur's Gate 3 - just amazing in practically every way. My favourite cRPG since Planescape: Torment and one of the best few ever made, I think. Got to be a 10/10. Games like this don't come along that often.

The Last of US Pt 1 - glad I waited until the early issues had been ironed out, because this was great too. It really nailed that bleak, oppressive atmosphere. I thought some of the gameplay in one or two sections ground on a bit much, but when I finished it I felt the reverberations of the story and the journey of the protagonists for a while afterwards. Really great. 9/10

Struggling to find something else I'm motivated to play after those now...

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora 9/10

Wow, what an adventure. Absolutely fantastic game! Incredible, immersive world, tactile and satisfying movement and gunplay. Tons of action and explosions.

You actually feel like you're in the world, it's very well done. Even the quieter moments inside facilities felt so immersive and reminded me of older 1st person games like Half Life 2 for some reason.

One of the rare occasions where I feel sad finishing a game as I enjoyed it that much. Underrated game imo.

interesting you say that, because ive got the game (for free) i tried it for an hour & hought it was meh. Soon as i got outside i thought i was in a farcry 3-6 Clone

Shadow of the Tomb Raider
8/10

Really enjoyed this. There were bits you could pick at, such as inconsistencies in jump/climb areas that led to death. The slight jankiness of the grappling hook that also led to multiple deaths but overall I think I enjoyed it the most out of the reboot trilogy. There were several nods to the original Core Design games and the feel was more of an adventure/exploration type game rather than an action gunner that the last two games played like.

Rachet and Clank A Rift Apart, 10/10
I've played all the previous games on PS. Did this on the PC. Outstanding in every way.

I loved Sonic/Mario as a kid but then when it got to the PS era I had no interest in platformers, not even crash, did get a bit into Rayman 2 for a bit but that was about it, yet R&C has always had such consistency and you genuinely form a bond to the characters and the whole whacky/silliness of it, despite being clearly playable for kids, it doesn't feel stupid and there are some hard bits and you can ramp the difficultly up which makes it truely a nightmare/feel 'adult' and you won't even for a second think this is some silly kid/cartoon type game...

Dunno it's hard to describe, it's sucha beautiful/vivid immersive game, and the characters are heart warming, and it's just a funny, light and silly story, yet you somehow care and form a bond with all the characters, especially if you've played the previous games. The fact R&C are genuinely sweet, polite creatures without a masculine god complex, I think makes them so charming, as they just want everyone to be safe/happy and protected?

Sounds mad considering how many weapons/non bloody violence there is in it, but it's so playful where it's always like robots or weird aliens, you don't associate it technically with gore/killing, you just do it - not that I have a problem with violence/shooting, but it's an interesting take on it, when you think that's most of what you're doing, yet it never feels linear...

Hell of a port this, though! @mrk approved!
