Witcher 3 + Hearts of Stone DLC - 8.0 / 10

Really good game, looks really nice. Although loses a lot of the combat difficulty at higher levels as it's way to easy to be over powered.
Also gear doesn't really leave enough options of what to do with your character.

Heavy Armour = Sword + Heavy attack
Medium armour = Signs
Light Armour = Sword + Light attack

Had it not been for this it would have been a good 9 / 10.
Trying not to get into anything just now; gearing for Fallout 4.

My next review will probably be Tales from the Borderlands(played on PC).
So,

Tales from the Borderlands lol

Still very much the same modern Telltale-style as everything else they're putting out there. BUT, a good one.

The plot itself is nothing to write home about, in my opinion. It is fair enough by video game standards and it gives you enough context to at least maintain some interest in it. Where I think the game truly shines is creating memorable characters with story arcs that you come to care about. The good guys and bad guys(and the inbetween) are all likeable in some way or another. The dialogue and interactions between the characters are handled in a charming manner, and while still not A+ Pulitzer writing levels, it is good for a video game.

I think many people are put off by the Borderlands setting, sadly. I think that's a mistake. Either these people haven't played Borderlands and assume they wont 'get' the game and the backstory and whatnot, or they have played Borderlands and didn't like it, so assume they wouldn't like this, either. You *really* dont need to have played the main games to get into this. I happen to love Borderlands, so I was happy to revisit the setting, but I know lots and lots of people say they didn't know or care about Borderlands the franchise, but still enjoyed the hell out of this Telltale offshoot. There might be some references here and there that mean more to fans of the series, and maybe a bit more of the backstory is filled in for us, but it is by no means required. You will not be lost and this is mostly an entirely self-contained story whose ties to the main games are very loose, plot-wise. I think the humor is also a lot more maturely handled here than the MEME JOKE GET IT? LAUGH! approach of the main games. Granted, I thought Borderlands 1 was reasonably funny at times and I like the over-the-topness of it, but Borderlands 2 tried way too hard and suffered for it. Tales from the Borderlands gets a good balance. I wasn't rolling on the floor laughing, but it had lots of good chuckle and grin moments.

Also, I think special mention needs to be made for the 'intro' scenes. They're not right at the very beginning of the episodes, but there's eventually a theme song for each episode that serves as the proper intro. These are GREAT. A big highlight of the game as a whole. Song choices are brilliant and keep getting better and better as the episodes ticked off(except for the last one, which I didn't like as much). Dont even look these up if you haven't played the game. They deserve to be experienced for the first time properly. Ending credit music was also just sublime.

So technically, the game seemed fine for me. No bugs or performance problems, though I've also got a pretty decent PC. Graphics are typical Telltale-level, though they definitely *nailed* the Borderlands aesthetic perfectly.

Overall, I give it a 8.7/10. By Telltale standards, it's a very good game. I dont necessarily LOVE these games a ton, but they can be a good palate cleanser for me in between some of the longer or unending(sims, competitive games) games I often play. Definitely recommended. Even if you dont know or like anything about Borderlands, yes!

Wasteland 2 Director's Cut

I played the base game at release and found it disappointing, but a much needed facelift and lots of tweaking have greatly improved it.

Positives

- Great character creation and use of builds. You can create the characters you want with the skills you want and they are pretty much all useful, You create a squad of 4 Desert Rangers and it is really fun getting the right mix. The options in customisation are great too.
- Brilliant writing all the way through. The story is basic, but that is the point. It is just a framework for exploring and encountering all of the different factions and characters. The different stories and factions you encounter are brilliant.
- Meaningful choices and consequences. Practically every choice you make has a lasting consequence to it, some of them unexpected. It can be really small things like just talking to someone or opening a door, and it will bring up entirely new options. Really high quality, and in a time of dumbed down 'RPGs', very welcome. The ending slides are also really good.
- Interesting places to explore. Some really nice settlements with unique looks. Hollywood and Rodia are probably the best of them.
- Factions. The most impressive thing probably. At every settlement there are usually a few factions fighting for control and you get to work for/support whoever you want. They are all well thought out and interesting. My favourites are the Servants of The Mushroom Cloud and The Mannerites.
- Roleplaying. It is done brilliantly. From dialogue to skills(each member of your squad will have a specific skill and will have to be the ones to use it). You can pretty much do whatever you want(or nothing at all) with each quest. Everything can be resolved peacefully and you can even choose to side with the main bad guys and go against the Desert Rangers!...Best Roleplaying since New Vegas.
- Director's Cuts changes. Controller support is very well done ans suits teh game perfectly. New voice acting(though still not enough imo). New perks and skills are really good too. also the visuals were greatly improved. It is not the best looking game, but much better than before!...Also, combat is a thousand times better.
- Really good sense of progression. You feel like you are progressing the whole time, with plenty of new items and weapons coming along at regular intervals along with levelling up at the right pace. Never got bored, in fact I wanted more!
- Good selection of weapons and items with uses you have to really think about to utilize. It all adds to the sense of freedom and works really well. For example, I picked up a Hollywood walk of fame star at some point, then suddenly hours later I am in a small town and there is a hole in the perimeter fence, and the option comes up to patch it up with the star!
- Good maps with plenty to do and they are generally nice looking. They could be a bit more intricate though, and could maybe do with some verticality.
- Really good ending and last stretch of the game with an epic battle and some great choices.

Negatives

-Whilst the maps are good, a lot of them are underused. For example, you can have a random encounter against 2 robots that are right next to you, you kill them and then realize that there is a massive unused map with cover and everything. It really should be used for more.
- Quests can be overwhelming. Hollywood is a bit weird. The quests are are so intricate and well done that it kind of gets bogged down and can be a bit complicated. I imagine plenty of people will mess it up though no fault of their own by doing things in a strange order.
- Bugs. Lots of bugs, mainly related to how intricate the quests are, with some being hard to complete. Also instances of the wrong outcomes being played out too. Controller support, whilst great, can be a bit fiddly and just go wrong sometimes with you not being able to select certain skills.
- Companions, There are lots of companions you can recruit, which is good, and generally they are well implemented with a bit of unique dialogue, but they are all pretty useless otherwise. None of them really have any skills you need as you will most likely already have them covered, and they don't have quests or anything, though they do have some interesting moments.
- Whilst consequences are really good in the game, there is a general lack of interaction with people after you have completed their quest which is a bit disappointing to me.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the game, and would not hesitate to call it GOTY for me so far. Probably the best RPG I have played in years, or at least tied with Pillars of Eternity. A post apocalyptic wasteland is well realised and fun to explore with many interesting encounters. Loved it. 9/10

Halo 5 6/10 did not understand what was going on with the story.
Uncharted Collection 8/10 Uncharted 2 is by far the best of the 3.
MGS 5 10/10 Would be game of the year if not for Fallout 4.

Bioshock Infinite 11/10 Best game I have played ever IMO looked and ran fantastic on my PC, the combat was great, the setting was unusual and the twist was great at the end. The only thing is it felt that part of the game was cut..... Like MGS 5.

Witcher 3 - 9/10

Probably the best game I've played in a long time, let down very slightly in the latter half of the game where it became very easy even on the hardest settings. I liked that you really needed to read up on the monster and make sure you've got the right oils and bombs ready early on which became rather unnecessary later on, but that's nit-picking at an excellent game overall – and that's having not had time to play the DLC which may resolve that issue.

MGS V – 6/10

I was a little disappointed by this title and some people will probably want to put anthrax through my door for giving it an average score. It just never really held my attention although it had some good moments and the game play as generally good. Problem I had was that too often I got a little bored and stopped playing, having to then make what felt like an effort to pick it back up a couple of days later.

Maybe it's just not my type of game, but for me it's only above average, I think I enjoyed it but won't play it again.

@seanspeed, you say there is no console game review thread, then why not start one. Open a new thread in the console section., write your own title and post away. Then you have the best of both worlds.
Because

a) I dont play a lot of console games, it's hardly going to become some regular thing. I would not support the thread very much at all.

b) This is primarily a PC gaming site and the console subforum gets a predictably lesser amount of attention, meaning not only would my review be less likely to get read, but the thread would stand less of a chance of flourishing as I'm guessing most people here who play on consoles also play on PC, where multiplatforms are usually best played, so I'm guessing it would be mostly limited to console exclusive game reviews, which is limiting compared to the thousands and thousands of PC games available, both exclusive and not.

I understand what you are saying, still no harm in opening a thread. If other members see it, they may be inclined to chip in. At the very least, you gave it a shot.

My 2 pence, this is a gaming forum. I couldn't give 2 monkeys what platform you guys are playing on. I'd rather read your thoughts on the ** I presume you mean Fallout.. ** game. Good call mods, stop bickering and talk about the game.

Tales from the Borderlands 10/10

Another Telltale masterpiece. Buy this game!!

Ok, so admittedly I am a massive fan of Telltale and their series of story driven adventure games. I have played through The Walking Dead season one and two, The Wolf Among Us, Game of Thrones and now Tales from the Borderlands.. All I can say is WOW I absolutely loved every minute of it! The writing really is perfect. I'm struggling to find things to compare it to, as I can't think of any developer who can deliver a story as well as Telltale can.

If you haven't played any of the other Telltale games guys try this first. It really is their best and is likely to make you want to buy the others :)

The review Seanspeed left further up the page, says everything else I wanted to say lol.

Everyone has different preferences, doubt anyone would hate you for that:p I, for one, would reverse the scores, though maybe W3 would be a 7/10. I was rather disappointed at how the game looked without SweetFX, the story was plodding a bit and everything became too repetitive after a while. The clunky combat and glitchy horse didn't help either. And overlevelling made exploration pointless. Skellige was beautiful, but ironically it was at that point in the game when I decided I didn't want to put up with it any longer:p

Basically, I had the same problems with W3 that you had with MGSV:D

South Park - The Stick of Truth

You know you are playing a South Park game when your choice of class includes Jew

Funny story, full of great characters, the voice acting is fantastic and it looks like you are playing a South Park episode.

8/10

Fans of the show will probably enjoy it even more.
