"My wife walked out mid-episode"

Meanwhile, my wife was in tears for the last 10 minutes of the episode.

I thought the episode was very good personally even though I found the man love scenes unwatchable and ended up skipping past them.

I don't get it - It's two people kissing and laying in bed.

Is it a review bomb or just an honest example of how people actually feel about the episode?

I wouldn't score it so badly but I certainly wouldn't have given it a 10/10.

I think that there are as many "activists" scoring it 10/10 then there are people "review bombing" it as you have described

I think the title elsehwere of the situation summed it up well:

"Saw this coming. Episode 3 had a 9.8 on IMDb last night, but shot down to an 8.6 this morning (and falling). Looks like it’s being review-bombed by intolerant trolls."

It's true that people who think a certain way will surround themselves with people who also think the same way, so this doesn't surprise me one bit that his wife walked away and the pot bellied mates texted similarly!

My thoughts on watching the episode were such:

Bill!!!! Frank!!!!!!!!! Backstory!!!!!! This is dragging on a bit but hey, it's backstory for why Bill is such an ornery grumpy old man... Oh, they're changing Frank's death, I mean okay, I guess... WTF, they killed Bill at the same time, what am I even watching anymore, it sure as hell isn't TLoU.

So we'll just skip the entirety of Bill's section in the game to have a really heartfelt moment where he doesn't want to live without Frank, something that never happened and from the inference in the game Bill was given zero choice over, it does sadly absolutely smack of agendas being pushed with zero regard for the source materiel, the episode would have been perfect if they hadn't killed Bill.

We don't actually know that Bill is dead do we. We haven't seen a body or anything, which was a bit annoying if I'm totally honest

No point in fighting it. It's a fact of life at this point in our society.

They must have seen this coming. It certainly has sturred up the hive though. Any news is good news I guess.

Do you know what, if it turns out he's alive I'd be fine with it, but the whole 'oh look, Bill has stuff to make batteries with' so we can skip the entire Bill arc of the game says otherwise.

*EDIT*
Judging by the kind of show it is and myself never have played the game I expected bill to be murdered by the "stranger" while he played the piano. I sat there expecting a club or ornament to be smashed over the back of his head this introducing"evil man" into the series. How wrong was I :D.
Yep, for the whole of that scene I thought he was going to grab the gun out of Bill's thigh holster!

I think my only complaint in the episode is I would have liked one more scene with Bill, Frank, Joel and Tess later in their relationship when they actually start trading with them. But I think that is just me wanting more Tess!

The showrunners in the first podcast HBO podcast mentioned something about wanting to show that love isn't always a force for good that is often shown in TV Shows/movies. It can be destructive as well.

I assume they want to contrast this episode, where love essentially gives Bill some form of happyness and a purpose against
Joel's unwillingness to give up Ellie for 'the greater good' because his love for her (as a surrogate father) causes him to go on a killing spree and dooms humanity to further misery

Don't see how everyone's so upset, if anything they could have took time from the Bill and Frank backstory, and showed how their partnership with Tess and Joel was developed. I think they really missed a trick not expanding on that.

Aye, It is a TV adaptation. I thought the episode was brilliantly acted with some questionable details (standing in the open with a rifle) as outlined already. I enjoy these departures and filling out stories and arcs within the same universe. Everybody knows, who's played the game, where the story goes so chill and enjoy all the extra bonus content!

Because I find it weird, just like you have the right to be offended when someone accidently missgenders you, I have the right to be offended by man love.

It was also because Bill looks like my dad, and that is just ewww.

Was it just me or when they were looking at/picking the strawberries did anyone else notice that it looked like some whisps of the cordyseps around some of the plants? I seem to remember in the game something in the game that Frank killed himself because he got bitten and thought that they were going to have him infected like this rather than getting bitten. There were also what looked like clumps of fluffy stuff in the air at the same time so it could have been that.
My wife commented the same, I just assumed it was fluffy dandelion seeds or something similar.

I may have missed it but from what I remember he only put the crushed up tablets in 1 wine glass? He poured both glasses at the same time?
Also how do they still have wine after all those years, it would have been long gone if it was me!
Great episode though.
