The Last of Us (HBO, from Creator of Chernobyl) - No game spoilers please

I haven't, I don't have a playstation, waiting for the pc release.

I did watch a twitch streamer play it though several years ago.

Come on dude, you've had 10 years

Well, you are in for a treat anyway and the remastered version on the PC is looking really good. Think I might buy it and play through it again.

Same, there has never been a game released that made me want to buy a console just to play it. (this may not be true, I might have just forgot) :D

Additionally, these days, they all eventually come to PC and i'm a patient man.

I know everyone should be using the spoiler tags, but lets be honest, if you haven't played the game you need a slap
I played just past the point of Ep2 and part of Ep3 (the traps etc).

I got killed then rage quit the game. But in my defence I bought a PS4 to play Destiny and it came free with TLoU remaster so i gave it a go but really was looking for any excuse to start Destiny. I'll totally be buying the PC release though

I desperately want to play forbidden west, but not sure my patience will hold out :(

So they found a side character that was implied to be different, so they took the opportunity to dedicate a whole episode to the guy, a feature length episode at that.

Might actually be a good episode but I couldn't stomach watching it, I'm definitely not the target audience for this one.

Don't know what your all crying about tbh.
Great episode of TV...full of emotion and sadness. Adds to the world building (raiders, trade routes, government control) and gives us a great story in the process.

The game was about characters and this show is proving that they can actually elevate that to TV and give us something extra as well.
As for filler comments. we have no idea where this season is going to end from a plot perspective..so how the f can you call this filler? They might take 5 seasons to get to the end of the first game for all we know.
Exactly this, most game adaptions have failed to contextualise and include many of the more subtle elements of these interactions and stories that make the actual storytelling and atmosphere in games so rewarding. As the adaptions are often the most blunt interpretation of the games, but it is the stories, characters and scene setting that do a lot of the heavy lifting in the games that is lost in the transfer to tv/cinema.

There's only like one brief scene of them kissing. I can't pretend it didn't make me feel a tiny bit uncomfortable but I'm aware that's an issue with myself and not the show. Letting less than 90 seconds of an episode ruin 75 minutes of brilliant storytelling is just weird.

Thanks for posting this. Likewise, this was true for me. It would be false to deny that I felt some ‘discomfort’ (it was more a feeling of awkwardness) - it was quite an unusual thing to be exposed to in everyday media.

I agree - although I would say it’s more of ‘a shame’.

I'm one of these weirdos that has only played the 2nd game (due to the release of the PS5 console) I'm holding out on playing through the 1st game once it's released on PC. Quite looking forward to seeing all the changes from the TV show if manage to not click on 3 pages worth of spoilers in this thread :D

Ep3 was a memorable and human piece of TV, really enjoyed it. Was an unexpected but welcome diversion from the main thread, very easily the best episide so far.

There's little point in going into any of the anti woke/gay arguements, because the episode was just far too good for any of that to stick.

Bill was gay in the game, ok they didn't kiss but they've only explored and expanded the characters more in the show, this isn't the only characters they've expanded. I'm straight but don't see it as an issue really, it's 2023. You can't really expect the whole show to be Joel and Ellie walking through cities slaughtering the Infected.

I don't personally have any problem with the gay side of it itself (2 gay men kissing really doesn't bother me until it gets to the point it is just too in my face) - but I did feel like the episode was far too frequently doing a "in case you've forgotten these 2 characters are GAY" and dragged out the love story elements far too much - scenes of them singing, the strawberries, etc. went on like 3 times longer than they needed to which I just found boring especially when there was other elements of the world building and development of Joel and Ellie which then felt crammed into the episode and not given enough justice - I'd feel the same in that respect if it was a love story of two straight people as well. (Even the relationship between Joel, Tess, Bill and Frank wasn't done enough justice for the sake of giving Bill and Frank more screentime).

Personally I don't see it as a filler episode, it is a needed human story to setup the development of Joel and Ellie and for Ellie to see a bit of the world as it was before - which made for more interesting watching.

Did you miss the scenes that blatantly screamed gay? Like singing and growing things? Straight men don't do that!

I hope that isn't in reply to my post - as you'd have just inserted prejudice as to what you want my opinion to be over what I actually said.

I really enjoyed the episode.
I always liked the concept of being a "prepper" and the sub-contained world it creates.
In media usually they end up failing miserably, but showing then situation end how it did was a refreshing change.

Growing strawberries when you are in a post apocalyptic world would indeed be quite an event, regardless of your sexual preferences?!

You said they blatantly kept reminding us they were gay and then gave those examples?

Not what I said in my post - I lead into that with "and dragged out the love story elements far too much" - same criticism of why I started to find later parts of TWD boring when they dragged out that kind of setup/story far too much regardless of sexual orientations involved. You get like 3-4 repetitions of Bill's reaction to the strawberries for instance when one would have been enough.

Seems like a bad idea to eat stuff grown from the ground though surely? Zombie Fungus etc?
