The Last Of Us

I quite like the sound of that actually, I'm 45%-ish through so far and as a result of exploring every nook and cranny (although seemingly I missed the combination for the safe in the hotel!) I've got plenty of ammo, full healthpacks, IEDs, shivs, lots of other resources etc. Sort of wish I'd started on a harder difficulty so it'd be more of a struggle, but the enemies would be even tougher I guess.

I started on Hard and found it very frustrating with regards to enemies, now that ive played through it and know how the game works combat is somewhat easier, I dont think the enemies are any more difficult over hard difficulty. But on hard I still nearly always had 3 of everything crafted most of the time, on survivor ive practically nothing. I cant make nail bombs or upgrade melee weapons as the blades are too rare and I need the shivs to unlock doors more.

With regards to the safe in the hotel:

Once you go up the ladder you turn right and shimmy across the broken staircase, the note is sitting in a suitcase.

Really?! Goddammit...I thought maybe it'd be in one of the rooms upstairs, but I'd forgotten I was looking for it by the time I hit the point-of-no-return for that area.

Balls. I think I've missed a a couple of bits of dialogue too though, it seems if you leave any enemies alive in an area Ellie won't do her usual thing of finding things to talk about or jokes to make. Something to keep in mind for the next time though.

Aaaaaargh I can't believe I didn't spot that! Oh well, in a way I'm glad, means my next playthrough will have a few new things I won't have seen or done before.

I'm roughly 45% through on Survivor mode now, and must say that the difference from normal with regards to resources/ammo etc is crazy. There is so little of anything. Really ramps up the tension :D.

It also seems like sneaking up on infected is a lot tougher.

Yeah you have to move so slowly so they dont hear you, but if they are runners or stalkers you wont be able to catch up to them before they turn around and see you. Kindof forces you to have a conflict in some parts rather than be stealthy.

I've noticed that. It's kind of frustrating. On occasion, it has been as soon as I move from cover that they spot me.

I'm really hating that you always need 3 pistol shots to bring someone down. The first two are brushed away and then the third does the job. Headshots do the job but are not easy in the heat of battle.

Just completed this. Wanted my first play through as a real survival one so I went with hard, and I'm glad I did. So many great things to say about this game, better than uncharted in every way. While I didn't turn the sound mode off, I used it so sparingly that it felt balanced enough. Never upgraded it either. I loved the combat, and found the AI particularly good. The amount of times they managed to flank me was superb. Flanking their Flank makes it all the more fun. There's also nothing like running out of ammo against a dude with a gun, crafting a smoke bomb, throwing it and then running in and chopping him to death with a melee weapon.

Ending spoiler stuff now so watch out.
Anyone else feel very uncomfortable the last few hours of the game?
When Joel nearly got killed I was so gutted for Ellie, and it just seemed that things were only going to get worse. When they saw the giraffes and everything seemed so happy, I knew bad stuff was going to go down.

What did you guys think of the ending? That also left me feeling not quite right. I love that Ellie and Joel got to be together... but at the cost of a vaccine? I don't know. I almost thought Joel had to give her up, but he didn't.

Makes you wonder what you would do in that situation with a loved one. If I had to give up my family or (long term) girlfriend I don't know what I'd do!

Great started to read in my email. Can we not keep spoiler and gameplay stuff in the spoiler thread please... :(

about the ending.

I actually got out of one tricky situation because two people decided to run straight past me and totally ignore me. If I had to fight them I'd have been in trouble. I have seen glimpses of dodgy AI in places I must admit.

Indeed. Though there are thankfully only 4 or 5 in the game and you can run away from one without fighting it. Fire is good against them but apart from that nothing seems to take them down particularly easily...

I wasted so many rifle rounds on them before realizing molotovs are much more effective, I hardly craft them though, prefer to use the ingredients on medical kits instead.

The one in the hotel basement is the only one I've ran from so far. :D

Took me 20 hours to finally complete this. Played it on Hard and didn't even know there was a listen mode.

This game really knocks hell out of my PS3 and its a new one at that. Hope they sort something out with the heat issue.
