The Last Of Us

The most annoying one for me was Ellie and Bill, Bill would be running backwards and forward from cover to cover, loudest footsteps I've ever heard in my life, all while whispering at Joel to "Stay quiet".

Yea thats the one I thought was the most annoying, it did break the atmosphere, man them boots were loud lol

Honest thoughts on the multiplayer mode please.

Have to admit, I haven't touched it. The footage I've seen to date hasn't filled me with much hope or enthusiasm. A while back, I recall one of the ND devs basically saying their multiplayer offering would be the next best thing.... Would you guys agree? Has it met expectations or fallen flat?

I bought this today! Was mega excited but it kept freezing on the first loading screen :( managed to get it to work by creating another save.

Its very pretty. The beginning was very quite shocking. I have just got out of the city. I'm not great at stealth so I'm not sure if its just going to frustrate me later but enjoying it for now.

For me its brilliant, easily the best mp game I've ever played. But I can understand if it isn't for everyone especially if you play the likes of cod or bf as it's very very different to those games.

Not a COD or BF fan. Havent touch COD since MW2 and have never played BF.

Just all seems a little too "standard death match" to me. I think I wouldve preferred a set co-op missions. Taking on clickers and other random folk.

Will try later

As someone who could not get into Uncharted as I hated the feel for the game. Would I enjoy this game? SP games do tend to bore me.

SP games I have been glued till finishing:

DMC's
Prototype 1-2

Think it is because i just want to get to the next cut scene to see where the story goes. After reading this thread, this game seems to be one of them but with the Uncharted feeling which I think would be a massive let down for me.

I wouldn't say it's anything like Uncharted really, aside from the level of polish and attention to detail. It's a very different game (despite also being third-person), with a very different approach to the story.

That said, if you just want to travel from cutscene to cutscene, you're going to be missing out on some of the best bits of the game (exploring the environments) as well as large pieces of the story itself as a lot of it is delivered through in-game dialogue, conversations, items etc.

It's more like team death match, but far more emphasis on tactics and working together to achieve your goal.

Also make use of the supplies scattered around the map for crafting and upgrades.

Its been a long time since a game has really sucked me in like this, wearing head phones playing in the dark is a must lol.

Hehe, I was playing the other night, in the dark, 5.1 surround, in a really stealthy bit with lots of clickers etc. around 1am, so pitch dark, utterly silent otherwise...

*CRASH, THUMP* bloody kitten decided to fall off the radiator and made me **** myself! Needless to say I swore at the little sod for about 10 minutes :p

Only other game that's made me that jumpy is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in the underground sections!! :p

Thanks for that. Yeah I also love exploring, I am one of them who has to check every inch of the level before I am happy to proceed to the next level or it just bugs me thinking I have missed something.

Need to see if blockbusters is still open in my area, will go rent it later if so.

Then I think you will love Last of Us. I normally get bored with that kind of thing eventually, but in this game making the most of what;s around you isn't only vital, it's incredibly satisfying.

Well, it is for me. But then I have got very, very "deep" into playing the character. Creeping around has never thrilled me either... not for most of a game, certainly! But... but...

Just play it, ok? :-)

I just hit Spring. I want to press on, but I know I need a break. I feel like I've been run over by an emotional truck.

Haha, I get that feeling. It's so intense, can only play for a couple of hours at a time before chilling out and relaxing =P (playing hard mode with no aids turned on)

In PC games I generally turn my nose up at any kind of assistance, even if I play through games on easy in an attempt to clear my Steam backlog. But here I feel so handicapped by having to use a controller rather than a mouse that I'm a lot more inclined to take help where it's offered. :-)

I actually like the listen mode. It really does feel like I'm closing down my senses and concentrating on listening *really* hard. It also helps make up for the silly stuff, like not being able to collect more bullets. I wish they'd given us the option to dump a weapon and keep more ammo, which would have added more value to replays as well.... even though I'd have spent hours stood around trying to decide which weapon(s) to leave behind.

Still, I'm not going to complain. I love it just the way it is, warts and all.

Talking of warts, many people have mentioned the AI. It's possible that above Easy and Normal (the only settings I've run so far) these defects are more obvious. But even if that's not the case, when I've met issues they barely register on my radar. I mean, I barely know which direction I'm going in next, so how can Naughty Dog's code predict that in advance?

And the being ignored by enemies thing is just something we almost always have to live with in sneaky co-op games, otherwise we'd end up frustrated after ten minutes of play.

Back in the depths of 32-bit time I did a bit of co-op AI programming for a simple top-down shooter on the Acorn Archimedes (we never finished because I discovered Doom and got depressed. :-)) I can still remember the headaches I had then, and that was in a very, very simple situation. So I may be more forgiving than most.

At the end of the day, playing computer games always requires a certain suspension of disbelief, which is why it can be so hard to persuade non-gamers to take this hobby seriously. But Last of Us pulls me so far and deep into the moment that it'd take a lot more than a bit of daft AI code to freak me out. That's the Clickers' job! :-)

I've gotten up to
Just after you get the car and then lose it
so far and I'm really enjoying it, the graphics are surprisingly pretty and I'm loving the story/characters so far. I can't play for too long though or it all gets a bit too intense :p

Something I forgot to add to my AI thoughts... in previous games where you get given a companion I have always ended up hating having to protect them. It could be a real chore, and I breathed a sigh of relief when it was over, even in titles like HL2.

The genius -- and I do belief it's genius -- of Last of Us is to be found in the fact that at no point along the journey did I want to get rid of anyone. I was welcome of the extra support when it was there, and when...
I was separated from Ellie I felt like I'd failed in my duty as her guardian.

If that connection comes at the cost of accepting a bit of iffy AI behaviour, then I'll live with that all day.

Edit: Finished. <insert exhausted sweary here>. At last I can take up residence in the spoiler thread.

I'm just over 60% complete, taking my time absolutely loving the game! The attention to detail is phenomenal, nearly every house I've visited you could more or less piece together what type of family lived their etc. I've only seen a few repeats on photos too (I'm sad)

Had a blast on the Multiplayer seemed okay nothing ground breaking, also is there much point on custom loadouts? Doesn't really seem that much point the predefined ones are pretty strong.

Anyone know any good deals available on this?

I don't know if its still on but if you got Tomb Raider, Metro Last Light or Bioshock Infinite (and some other games).

You can trade in one of those at Game and get The Last of Us for 99p.
