The Last Of Us

The bloaters aren't bosses, they just take a bit more effort to take down. A couple of nail bombs or molotovs and some blasts with the shotgun will kill them.

I must be in the small minority of people that think this game is just fairly average
Strip out the most amazingly involving and compelling story I've ever found in a computer game and you're right, it's a fairly average game, and it's very easy to pick holes in it because Naughty Dog are far from perfect as game designers. But the way they meshed that game so expertly into the developing relationship between Joel and Ellie... that's where the genius lies.

However if you never quite 'get into' that emotional journey, beginning to feel genuinely like Ellie's guardian, then I can see how people can be easily disappointed.

Much better if you just want to find out what happens with minimal opinion. But the thing I like about the Swedish guy is that you get to see his reaction to everything. Ok, that can be annoying (especially if anyone was wanting to actually see the game for the first time) but for me that playthrough is a bit like this thread... we're here because we want to share the experience in some way.

He could be refering to Bloaters!

Might be one of those. The first encounter felt like any generic boss fight ever - trapped in a room , loud noise, "what's that noise?", boss comes into room along with some weaker enemies, kill boss by shooting certain parts on it's body.

It just doesn't tie in with the rest of the game where you're supposed to be trying to avoid enemies because supplies are scarce.

Are you talking about the area with the fire?

I thought that fitted the to be of the game perfectly.

What were you expecting a boss battle at the end of every level?

I'm talking about the
gym in the school

And I wasn't expecting ANY boss battle at all. It doesn't go with the tone of the game.

Yeah, the bloater isn't really a boss battle just a tougher enemy. I think its the only time you HAVE to fight one anyway. I remember seeing quite a few of them but I usually just sneaked past them or ran away.

Yeah, the Bloater isn't a boss, just a human who has been infected with the virus for a much longer time than the Clickers and Runners, they show up mixed in with other enemies. I guess he does have weak spots, but you can just shoot him in the face, it's not like you *have* to hit the weak spots! Plus two Molotovs and it's dead.

Finished the game after 16 hours last night on normal. I'm speechless, really didn't expect it to end that way.....

OK I've just finished the single player and must admit that not many games can keep my attention like this one has. The story is great and the atmosphere and sense of unease in places is amazing, at no point did I just want to get to the next part, I was more than happy to explore every inch of the game.

I'd say this is one of the best games I've played this generation, if not the best.

Looking forward to my next playthrough :)

Something about the main theme music (when it's in full flow, like the main credits after the prologue) has been bugging me for a while. It seems very familiar for some reason. It 'feels' similar to the BBC Sherlock theme in some way, but when I compare them directly, the connection's not obvious.
