The Left Handed Build

As I said, exactly the worklog I like to see! All jokes aside it is great to see it done the 'old fashioned way' as the workmanship put into it really shows, and it gives you a blank canvas to work with!

Thanks again Gundog48, this is definitely going to be 'old school' and I am doing my best on the workmanship part.

Nice to see you have decided to revive this build piggin. I bet there is a fair weight difference between the two frames though. Steel would have the advantage of no one being able to steal it due to not being able to move it lol.

Thanks Greboth, I was in two minds as to scrap this build or not.
The problem I have is, I am very 'bloody minded' & don't like things beating me. So on with the build. :D

As for the weight, yes a massive difference.
If someone could pick the other case up fully loaded on their own, then I would not try to stop they from stealing it (too tough for me) :)

The ‘Left handed build’ is going very slowly at the moment but this has not stopped me spending monies.

This was delivered on Monday

Thanks jakspyder

As for the hand man skills. I am handy but I am not good enough to weld aluminium. That's 'Dirty' Den welding in the pictures :D

nice work mate..:)

Thank you very much

Opening boxes full of computery bits is lovely. This build is looking good, still intruiged how the case is going to turn out but should be good.

I am still getting panels lazer cut at this time. Everything is very much in the development stage @ this time. So not even I know how it will turn out.
As for boxes :)

Just come across this and its epic....keep up the good work.

Thanks, will try my best

Personally i would be aiming to finish the case before ordering 900 quids worth of GFX cards but where's the fun in that :)

I agree, I should finish the case first but by the time that happens we could be up to 780 GTX's :D

awesome, thread subscribed

Thanks, hope you enjoy the rest of the build.

Looking epic, i love the set up you have at the moment haha, i dont blame the Mrs for not seeing the funny side anymore lol

Mrs Piggin is very understand & lets me play with my toys ;)

The problem is she is very house proud & having this build sitting on a shelf is not making her happy.

The one thing I wish she would stop doing is trying to dust everything.

If she continues, she will either blow up a component or herself. :p

Thanks m8

The 580's are excellent and are working very well but I will have to reinstall win7 over the weekend to ensure the drivers are working correctly.
As for the gamepad, they were freebies. When I ordered my cards, I was cheeky & asked for a discount. ;)
As you can imagine, I was told no put I could have a little freebie.
When the box turned up, there were two game pads (one for each hand obviously) lol.

I doubt, I will every use them to be honest.
They will most probably go on the MM.
I will have to sort out my act, as I also have a 5970 to sell now. lol

The case is still at a stand still at the moment but the self is making progress.

DSCF2374.jpg

I have removed one rad & a pump, as I am now running my two 580GTX's on air. :D

Hopefully, I will have my water blocks for the GPU's next week ;)

The costs come down to how deep are your pockets.
The initial costs are not that high (about £150 for the two frames) but the cost for the design & laser cut panels are escalating quickly.

As for a finished price
When its completed, I will let you know

Is Tom helping you by any chance? :D Could one not make the panels oneself, cutting their own fan holes etc into sheets of aluminum (If one was not aiming high as far as looks are concerned ;))

If I wanted simple, then cutting panels would not be a problem.
What I am having problems with is getting a design from paper & putting it into a program so the panels can be laser cut.
My design will not be simple as I see this as a blank canvas.
I have the opportunity to do something uneek & I am taking it.

As for Tom, he is getting the panels cut.

Love this build piggin, you are a master of building tension! I WANNA SEE WHAT IT'S GONNA LOOK LIKE!

Subscribed :D

Thanks shroomz, I don't think its tension more frustration with how slow things are going.

Mrs Pigin has broken her foot & she has developed DVT, so she is my next project to sort out. :(

Wish her the best of luck getting better from us lot!

(even though most of us are probably only wanting her to get better so we can see the rest of the build!)

No hope she gets better, she is the priority :)

kd

Thanks very much kd

It means a lot to me & Mrs P, that everyone cares so much.
She is now on the mend but it is a very slow process (she has been in a cast for 4 weeks & the bones have not started to join together)
Hopefully she will be up & about soon & I can get down to some serious moding :D

Loveing this piggin, im just pondering where your going to fit the monster that is the left handed build :D

Also why did u buy an Asus 5970 then decide to go for double GTX280s a few months later? apart from the obvious :P

Thanks benj3

The 'monster' is going under the desk as there is no other room unfortunatly.
I know this is not good but there is no where else to put it.

As for this picture, this is my old shelf with the water cooled 5970.

DSCF2251.jpg

This is the new shelf with the Sli 580 Gtx cards (has changed again since this last photo)

DSCF2374.jpg

As for why ;)
I did not like the drivers with the Ati card.
I was never a 'fan boy' with nvidia but they worked better for me.
I enjoyed using the 5970 but the 580's are even better :)

Unfortunately no real progress, so I haven't put any updates on my build.
My biggest project (Mrs Piggin) is still work in progress but she is slowly getting better.

Also had my own problems recently having a trapped nerve in my back stopping me from using my right arm so it has been a very fun filled Christmas and New Year

As for the build I have ordered new water blocks for my new graphics card but due to the poor weather before Christmas they have been stuck in Germany until the New Year and have only landed in the UK today (due to backlog etc). :(

Hopefully will post an update on the weekend with my new water blocks fitted. :)

Also I have now decided on a design for the case so all I have to do is put my 'left handedness' into a computer programme that the laser cutter can recognise. :D

i can see why its called the left handed build now :D.....

This look really nice gr8 job so far.

Thanks Sgt

Dude, if your wife is getting in the way of your project, put your pump on max setting and give it to her to keep her busy :o

The way things are going, I am going to teach Mrs Piggin how to braid & let her get on with all the cables. :D

As for an update, I did a lot of work over the weekend (put water blocks on both 580's).
So I will post an update sometime this week.

Sli 580s... lucky git :p

Can't wait to see the finished thing.

I do feel lucky :D

Only just stumbled on this project and I gotta say that it made me chuckle, especially the early stuff about Mrs Piggin (although I suspect she's not as bad as you paint, especially if she left you put a bare computer on a shelf! Not sure I'd get away with that). :D

Looks like you are going to have one hell of a case once you have finished with plenty of cooling capacity, but with all those fans is it going to be quiet? What RPM are you planning on running them at?

Glad you are enjoying the build log John.
I have tried to make this a 'little light hearted' as you find a lot of build logs very serious. :D

As for Mrs Piggin, she finds my exploits on these forums very funny.
She makes comments like “talking to your little friends again” etc.
But she is a wonderful person (have to say that as she reads these sometimes) & understanding (regarding the self). I just wish she would stop trying to dust when everything is on. :(
I am sure; I will come home one night and find her at the door, with her hair standing two feet above her head, looking slightly ‘crispy’

As for the fans, I will be running two zalman fan controllers. So there should be no problems with noise. As for speed, they will be running very slow.
I may also purchase a BigNg to get better control of the temps.

Hi John Tedd

Thank you for your kind comments regarding my health. It is refreshing to know that people care.
I am praying to get better soon so that him indoors can crack on with his build and reconnect our printer and get rid of all this mess from the shelf.
Dust mites are now building colonies within the mass of wires sitting in front of me.
Best Wishes Mrs Piggin

Hi Centurion this is still Mrs Piggin as before, Mr Piggin still has his trapped or rather pinched nerve which is making him a really miserable so and so to love with these days.
I can't wait for my foot to heal so I can go out and leave the miserable git in the house.
I agree there are some nice people around these days.
