The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - As a PC gamer, am I missing something?

There isnt a direct comparison, I mentioned Witcher 3 first, I did so because I was discussing how the OP had said that some billing of Zelda was "best game ever", I made mention of Witcher 3 on PC as it was a title that I felt could also warrant the title of "best game ever" and in a discussion between a console gamer and a PC gamer as to what is the best game ever, might potentially be a PC game which would be brought forward as a candidate for that title, thats the only place the comparison came from. Its just that since that original mention of it, its kind of rolled down the hill into a bigger bomb that was originally intended :)

Fair enough:)

I felt exactly the same with The Last of Us also by the way

I tried that on PS Now having heard so much about it.

I was disappointed.

Some games age more than others I guess. That is one game which apparently had not aged well.

Regarding Zelda, I may pick it up but £330 for console and game with no other games appealing at present is hard to swallow. I will wait till Autumn and see how the land lies with new/upcoming releases. If you add on extra controllers for local multiplayer which is Nintendo supposed strong point, you can say £450 for console, 2 controllers and 2 games with one of those being single player.

I played the Remastered version. Really enjoyed it. As much as I really like my graphics, I never let it get the way of a good game. What I tend to find is, after a while the dated graphics in a game start seeming normal, I just get used to. Like right now I am playing Zelda in bed and the graphics at times seem very good to me, I think the art and lighting at times does that.

Yeah, the Switch is not cheap if it is something you plan to buy and keep for a few years. But when you compare it with graphics cards like the 1080Ti, it is cheap. In my case I could have spent the money from the sale of my 1070 and added the money I spent on the Switch and went for a 1080Ti, but all that would get me right now is more fps in games I have already played, nothing more, nothing unique. The Switch offers me Zelda which will keep me happy for a long time judging by the size of the game. It gives me a console that I can play with on the TV, in bed, out and about and most importantly while on the toilet. By the time I am done with Zelda my pre-order of Mario Kart will be arriving.

Waiting until Autumn is a good idea if you can do it. Doubt prices will change much, but there will be a lot more games available for the Switch by then at least :)

Bought the WiiU version this morning, my plan was to play for a couple of hours, get changed, meet my mates for a few pints then go and and watch our football team (FC United of Manchester) loose at home to kidderminster (we amazingly won!) come back home after a couple of more pints and carry on playing Zelda. The game is so dam good I ended up missing the match (1st match I have missed all season btw) and just sitting in my own filth for approximately 11 hours straight, I forgot to eat and drink for that entire time. A game hasn't pulled me in this much in absolutely years. It's an absolute masterpiece and WILL go down in history as one of the best games ever made.

I'm not a Zelda fan as such, but I did love Zelda64 when I was a kid. My advice, get your self a 2nd hand WiiU and a WiiU pro controller and a copy of Zelda. An absolute must play for any gamer, regardless of platform off choice

Yep been gaming since TV Tennis/Pong, Atari (Tanks), Dragon32, e.t.c. :D

Ocarina of Time, so overrated and boring really. I mean o.k. you grow up and can revisit areas later as big Link, though that never really delivers as much in theory. You ride a horsePlus those stupid plant things in that room I remember being annoying, not to mention the silly flute. Kokiri Forrest was eye catching for the time and very pretty mind.

The "Links awakening" game on GB is a far superior experience as far as real fun gameplay, every moment a can not wait to find out what is next joyous experience, over the hypnotically dull grind of Ocarina; my God it is night and day.

Definitely not everything Myamoto touches is gold, yet the masses will lap it up; if they were only honest to themselves. I think it is cool to like Zelda too, kind of how like people say Shenmue was the greatest game ever; when it was boring as hell; sat in your forklift truck.

I can't say that it's an amazing game ( i haven't played it ) i expect however that it will be truly phenomenal and eagerly await playing it.

To answer the question are you missing out. I would say yes you probably are, however we are all missing out on many things because of the way exclusivity works. It does disappoint me that i have to own multiple systems to play certain franchises.

As a gamer who simply loves to play games it's becoming increasingly frustrating having to get a console just to play something. IE Zelda, or the last of us being a huge example. The only people who benefit from exclusivity is console manufacturers. As i am confident that something like the last of us would have sold ten fold if it was on every platform that could power it compared to what it sold on the exclusive console. But they will have made more money through the sales of the console for people who want it just to play that game.

It's a sad situation.

Not completed or anything yet, but put in a lot of hours and can categorically say I think this game is definitely better than Witcher 3. Gameplay wise it is just on an completely different level IMO. Obviously each game has it's strengths, but this game overall deserves the higher scores it received vs other PC games. It is that good!

I look back at something like Rise of the Tomb Raider which I completed last year and I did not even have a quarter of the fun I have had so far playing Zelda.

If I could have Zelda on PC instead of Witcher 3, I would swap in a heartbeat. I like the stylized world and the gameplay in that game actually looks like more fun. It seems a bit more unique. Don't know if it's a 10/10 but I feel it has the potential to be a lot more enjoyable. If I need to gaze at graphics, I can always fire up Horizon, it looks better than W3 anyways and has a more varied world;p

Witcher 3 is an 8/10, good game but it's just a typical fantasy story tacked onto really average gameplay mechanics and poor animations. It might be a 10/10 if you like standard fantasy with predictable endings. Frankly, I don't need tons of side characters/dialogues that serve no particular purpose apart from comic relief, padding out the narrative or building an illusion that it's a really deep story. I also don't need tons of sidequests and question marks with weapons I won't used because levelling is borked. Of roughly 200 quests I've done, about 30-40 were really creative. The rest - not so much. It was enjoyable for the first 20-30 hours but got predictable rather fast. I'm actually amazed they managed to make the story plod so much when it's based on something as great as Sapkowski's work.

Well, to each his own, I guess.

Hearts of Stone and B&W have fixed that at least and made me stick with the game.

I don't really understand why people comment saying things like it isn't that good, and then add that they haven't played it. You don't need to be a Nintendo fan to realise how great the game is, not every Zelda has been rated as "best ever"

When you have gamers old and young coming out saying how they haven't played a game for so long for a constant period of time in one go, it's clearly good. If it was released on PC and other consoles it would still be rated as it is now, the game doesn't change just because you play on a different console or on PC

Understandably it's currently hugely popular and a topic of discussion but for me it's nice to see a game that has lots of people spending so much time playing games again, who otherwise might not have been.

A good game is a good game regardless the platform, but only real gamers seem to grasp that.

You can compare Zelda to any game you like. Still doesn't change that fact it's an incredible game. Yes you are missing out.I'm fortunate to have a Top PC (titan xp sli)and most of the consoles. If a games good, I will play it on any format. Enjoyed The Witcher as well.

Agree 100% with this

Witcher 3 was pretty good from a character/story perspective, but the combat was just the same thing over and over and there wasn't much else to the game in terms of what you actually do

Zelda gameplay is a huge mixture of things. True open world, Portal esque puzzles, lots of systems interacting with one another, amazing physics etc.

I'm lucky enough to have a powerful PC, a PS4 pro, Xbox One S and now a switch which I basically bought a just to play Zelda and it really is THAT good.

I can see why it's got 10/10 scores, and the idea that Nintendo has paid off all the reviewers (as Neil79 said) is ridiculous.

It's nice to have stunning ultra wide 100hz PC games, but a 900p game with a framerate of 30fps that occasionally drops down to 20fps has proven to me that all those things we PC gamers fixate on, really don't matter when you are experiencing such an amazing game.

It's 3am and I've just stopped my Zelda shift for the night. My PC or PS4 hasn't even got a sniff of gaming since getting my Switch a week ago.

From what I've played of both games so far (Loved TW2 and completed it. About 8 hours into TW3 and probably ~20 for LoZ:BoTW) Zelda is in another league compared to The Witcher.

Im primarily a PC gamer and have never played another zelda before so no nostalgia of any kind here. Im currently 3/4 through the game and i have to say it is probably the best gaming experience i have had in the last 10 years! I've completed witcher 3 (and expansions) on pc and although its a fantastic game but zelda is on another level.

Well said guys. It seems as a PC gamer I am not alone in thinking Zelda is better than the likes of Witcher 3 etc on PC :)

@Born_2_Kill_83 - Did you end up returning the console after a few hours of playing or did you give it a chance in the end? Once it clicks (took a few hours for me), you realise how graphics and fps is secondary to a great game. The occasional frame dips I get when playing on tv (does not happen in portable mode) do no even bother me due how engrossed I am into the game. The hours fly by when I play, no game in recent memory has had the same effect on me.

Owning a Pc and a Nintendo is the best combination. My xbox and Ps4s were donated to my nephew as they got no use beyond Naughty Dog games.

As for Zelda. Yeah it's that good.

Nintendo achieved something special here.

I do not see any one game mechanic which looks revolutionary or "not seen that before".

Sure, what I do see does seem "solid" but the "game" aspect is lost on me.

What makes a game great?
1 - Having one single unique aspect?
2 - Executing everything extremely well?

For me it is the best single player game I have played, but that's not going to be the case for everyone. The recent Zeldas have been a bit damp so it's also great to see a series I love return to form.

I want to play this though until Nintendo release some other games I shan't buy a Switch. The Witcher 3 isn't even the best RPG on the PC unless you like rolling around of course.
