The Liverpool Club Thread. **No Spoilers**

What level of new contract do you think will Liverpool want to offer VVD seeing as he will be 34 at the start of next season?

2 years with a 1 year option?
1 year with an option for 1 more I'd expect. Gives Quansah some time to mature and take over and also has the club captaincy being handed over sooner rather than later as a carrot for Trent's new contract.

At this point, I feel like no carrot will be enough for Trent. I'm confident we can have VVD and Salah sign new contracts but I think Trent has already decided on Real (and I actually think he decided that the moment Klopp left), shame that he will go for free but thats how it goes.

Who knows, I've read (on twitter, boss hiss) that the sticking point is how much of a 'renewal fee' he gets

Now Trent’s going on about wanting to be the first full back to win the Ballon d’Or and it would mean more to him than winning the World Cup. Well, everyone knows you’ve got to be one of 3 things to win the Ballon d’Or, either be called Lionel Messi or Christiano Ronaldo or play for Real Madrid

I still don’t think a RB playing for RM would win it.

I still think he’s undecided and being very coy to force the club to make a better offer.

Really surprised to hear in that Salah interview that he hasnt had any offers from the club yet, I actually thought that there had been a contract offer and there was just a disagreement over the terms but to see him say that theres been no offer on the table yet is pretty disappointing (unless it was something lost in translation)

I mean you dont make an offer unless its agreed surely? They are negotiating and he wants to stay. It'll get done imo.

The report I read says exactly this. Surely they are not going to let him leave on a free. I'd be more tempted to lock down him and Trent down on contracts and let Virgil go - all assuming Liverpool can't or won't lock down all 3.

Once Salah does retire he should go into politics because he's played a blinder with all his comments regarding this contract. If I'm not mistaken, a few years ago during the Egyptian elections there were reports of a large number of ballots having Salah's name added to them.

As omnom says, the club aren't going to put a contract on the table until they've agreed terms with his agent and for all Salah's comments about it being up to the club, that's clearly not going to be 100% true. We saw with Salah's last contract how hard the negotiations were and with him getting older, those negotiations will only get harder. Salah probably wants a year more than the club want to give him and the club probably want to make his contract even more performance related - gut feeling is a compromise probably will be reached but it wouldn't amaze me if it isn't, especially if Salah's got £100m+ sat on the table waiting for him in Saudi.

He's definitely an exception, although he knows he's in a win-win situation. Saudi or someone will offer him a ridiculous amount of money per week, he knows that and so do Liverpool.

If Liverpool don't offer what he can get at a Saudi club he'll walk, but can the club offer more than what they already are paying him as I don't think he's short of cash? Finances only stretch so far and no player is bigger than the club.

Same thing being reported on the athletic.

Don’t know what the club are playing at. Yes he’s getting on but he’s the exception to the rule
Trouble is once you make one exception others will want the same and you can't afford a squad that it loaded with players in the in mid 30's raking in op wages, it makes it hard to refresh the squad and impossible to move them on if performances drop off. The board have some tricky decisions to make but I agree keeping Mo should be the clubs number one priority.
