It was like they were transcending or something.
Yeah, that's sort of how it works. It's not just a continent or something, it's a magical place.

That’s a much better explanation than mine……and pretty much spot on.Fair. If you like the first episode, you'll enjoy the rest. If you think it's okay, the rest is better. If you hate it, the rest won't save it.
Most of what's good, and bad, about it is on display from the start.
My wife and I finished it last night.
My younger self would probably be horrified, but I quite liked it. Sure, the writing could have been better, and some of the acting could have been better, but it was great to be back in Middle Earth.
It’s been about 20 years since I read the Silmarillion and paid attention to the LoTR appendices, so I couldn’t remember how much (if anything) was accurate to the books. I know they tried to condense a lot of stories into the same timeline, so it doesn’t really add up. And I read that they don’t actually have the rights to the Silmarillion so that must have made things harder.
Is there a website or blog somewhere that highlights what’s different between the books and the series?
Thanks, I’ll take a look.
Interesting reading the guardian's opinion of it over time initially they were madly for it presumably because of its diversity quotient but by the end they thought it was "a stinker" to use their own words "every episode so inept it left you sniggering"

Now it’s over, let’s come out and say it: The Rings of Power was a stinker
The world’s most expensive show – which looked like an episode of Hollyoaks, only with woeful acting – was so inept that every episode left you sniggeringwww.theguardian.com
Really got his finger on the pulse that one

No need for speed: does anyone care about a Top Gun sequel?
The much-delayed follow-up to the 1986 fan favourite is almost here, with Tom Cruise back as mentor, but it remains to be seen if audiences are willing to return to the skieswww.theguardian.com

3 episodes in now and enjoying it still. I think many people just heard it was crap and went in with a preconceived opinion.

So season one was such a failure it looks the showrunners are going to be silently fired /sidelined and the show "retooled".. Who could have predicted.... Oh wait..
