100% but the question is how much longer is Pep going to be at City. Getting the manager you want is as much about timing as anything else. ETH will probably be on the move this summer unless City have promised him the City job in a years time, which I doubt.

There are rumblings in the club that we are trying to change some things but I will believe it when I see it. Woodward gone, Rangnick going upstairs. New manager in the summer. Ronaldo, Pogba and a slew of other players leaving in the summer.

Not sure if you are being literal or metaphorical in this first part as it could be either. The Glazers simply don't want to spend money they don't have to and the fans for the most part would say thank you if the Glazers slapped them with their balls as they traipsed into Old Trafford.

Until the fans actually stop watching games and make enough of a show of it, nothing will change in many areas. Its a business. The Glazers put the amount of money they have to into the club to keep the commercial revenues ticking over. They make bank, the club slow grows in value and they can sell in the future if they want for a crazy sum.

There's definitely an element of that. Sure winning the prem would be nice for the owners, but the reality is probably that just making top 4 is more than enough to keep Manchester United PLC ticking over as a pretty successful business operation.

If anything, these dirty money owners like Saudi and Abramovich, that are in it for the kudos, are much more ambitious than the likes of the Glazers who are just in it for the money.

Oh 100%. I doubt these saudi billionaires even notice that they have bought a club and they bought clubs that were cheap with the intent of pouring money into them to take them to the top. It makes my blood boil every time I think about the way the Glazers bought the club. They bought the biggest club in England and have managed us into obscurity whilst lumping the debt onto the club and taking massive amounts out. Its just madness that they are allowed to do that.

The Glazers care about success as much as they need to and until the United fan base truly turns on them and doesn't roll over every time the Glazers throw them a tiny bone, things won't change. United haven't been truly good for 12+ years. Far too many fans have their sense of identity tied up in the idea that a good fan, a true fan supports their club through thick and thin. This isn't thick and thin, this is horrendous mismanagement which is 100% avoidable.

City turned around a mid-table side in 4 years. United could do it in 2 if they actually had the will and desire.

Just read that Shaw is open to extending his contract, and it’s worded on The Guardian as ‘Shaw boost for United’. A boost? Really?
:o

Maybe if he put in decent performances consistently, sure.

In general I couldnt agree more, he has probably had about 1 decent season in the 8 years at the club (6 months before the double leg break, and 6 months last season), apart from that he has been an average PL defender at best.

The issue I see is that we have potentially 10+ players leaving as it stands between this summer and next, and even if we are lucky we will buy 4 players in the summer...even with a few additions from the academy thats this a hefty shortfall before the 23/24 season

With Rashford's form and Greenwood out of the game for god knows how long (if he even makes it back), Ronaldo, Cavani, Pogba, DDG, Pereira, Martial, Jones, Bailly and Varane made of glass ..you could argue all 4 current full backs could be sold before summer of '23 , but there is just too much else to do

May be in the minority but DDG has to be on his last legs, he causes as many issues for the team as he solves, he isnt worth the ~375k /week (if anyone ever is) he is reportedly on...especially if he expects another long contract (and its not like decent gk are growing on trees at the moment either.....Im all for DH being given a proper opportunity...but can also see his weaknesses, even if the biggest one is "just" experience.....I just dont think this will happen and he will be sold

You need a new goalkeeper regardless, De Gea gets a nosebleed if he leaves his 6 yrd line, lets say you lot do get Ten Hag he will want a whole new back 5 as none of them are suited to playing his style of football. Given the state of the contract situation and how many players have their contracts up in a few years and even if you were to shift them on you wont be getting huge sums of money for them

Like many of our players, he should be offered a salary relative to his performances and a higher percentage should be performance related. There aren't that many players in this United side that are worth the money they are being paid and there aren't that many that currently couldn't be replaced for under £40m.

Greenwood is done at United, probably career as well. Rashford will inevitably be given a bumper new contract because United care more about social media and image than football. Same reason we brought Ronaldo back.

DDG is on a crazy wage considering his patchy form and the glaring holes in his game. Love the guy and he has been vital during these barren years when it comes to making us look a little less **** than we are but hes fundamentally not a modern keepers. Its amazing the number of times I see Alisson either start an attack or even basically rescue a game for Liverpool with a long ball over the top.

Currently hes not that big an issue in light of our other problems but hes certainly something that will need looking at in the next year if we do sort ourselves out in any way. His wages are just a joke though. Alisson is on £150k/year and when he signs a new contract he still won't be near DDG. Neuer is on £250k and Oblak is on £350k.

There is going to be a big clear out in the summer, the question is whether the club is going to use it as a way to start leading the club in the right direction. We will probably be in the europa conference next year so sack that off and play youth and focus on the team and the league. I don't care if we take 2-3 years to come back up, I just don't want to be in the same mess for the next 10/20 years.

Lots of talk that we should be going after Tuchel due to the turmoil Chelsea are in, he knows Rangnick well too.

I think Ten Hag is a pipe dream. The amount of change that would be needed in terms of coaches, squad and philosophy is just too much for the Glazers to countenance. Even though he's by far the best option IMO.

It's going to be Pochettino.

Can't believe the DDG hate! He's been our best player for almost ten seasons! No keeper is perfect but he's the least of our problems.
You saw in PSG's annual capitulation last night what happens when you have club which has a culture of self entitlement. We need a manager that will have the bottle and the backing to clear out anyone who doesn't want to earn their place in the team every week. I'm not sure about Pochettino he's obviously not got the trophies to back up his reputation but he did for a fleeting moment stop Spurs being Spursy and clearly is used to operating in a dysfunctional environment that is PSG. There is an argument to getting him now and giving him a good look at the team ahead of the next transfer window. PSG may well get rid now whereas no way Ten Hag is leaving Ajax early.

Me neither, he's one of the few players (apart from a couple of iffy seasons) that has delivered for us, and he always comes across well in interviews and his general attitude. One of the few 'proper' United players I think. His distribution isn't perfect, but I'd much rather have him than 95% of the other keepers out there.

The criticism (and it’s a fair one) is that having a keeper who is good with his feet is pretty vital to playing quite a lot of the modern styles of football. Liverpool start a surprising number of attacks and score quite a few goals directly from the keeper.

They also act as a extra defender when you are playing higher up the pitch giving your wing backs more freedom.

DDG is a top shot stopper but that’s perhaps not enough in the modern game. He’s also on an eye watering salary. He was the top paid player until Ronaldo arrived I believe.

If the Glazers had been stopped from spending money over the last five years we’d probably be in less of a mess.

Not sure about that. We would have had all the same issues but with potentially worse players. Ole literally only even "improved" the team when he bought a new player.

If we spent less but actually had a plan and structure then yes, we would be in a far better position.

It wasn’t entirely serious.

Another pathetic and insipid performance last night....

No shape, no structure, no effort, no desire, no tactics towards the end.....

Just awful - literally devoid of any "team"

It's 11 individuals running around hoping something happens...... No point in going on about the ref or AM players rolling around - it's nothing new, been done for years.

United will stumble through next 2/3 months , probably finish 5th or 6th.....

Then, and I really hope they do, need a wholesale clear out from top to bottom......

If Rashford, Martial, Lingard, Mata, Matic, Cavani, Bailly, Jones, Pogba are all still there at the start of next season it will be a failure in my eyes.....

None of these players are interested in playing, are too old/slow, etc.

A total overhaul is needed and drastic action needs to be taken. Not this plodding along from one manager to the next. Coaching/Management need a clear out as well.

Go out and spend the money on a proper long term manager - ten Hag for me, Simeone even. Do NOT want Poch or Conte.

40 years supporting United and whilst we've enjoyed some crazy highs and great times, this is worse than I thought it would ever get.....
