The Manchester United Club Thread **Sponsored by Comedy Central**

My previous work place had the exact same thing in my contract. Usage of social media or any forms of media to bring the company into disrepute would count as gross misconduct and potential dismissal. I thought this was pretty much common place for most large companies.

There is a high chance United already has this and he just doesn't care, his ego is too big to care for details and consequences.

Please do not be fooled by the few valid criticisms Ronaldo has made about the facilities etc. This is all about him being unable to accept he's simply not a top level player any more.

He was desperately trying to leave in the summer, after going on strike. Jorge Mendes was offering him around Champions League clubs but the all of them either didn't want him or couldn't afford him.

Piers Morgan seems to be leading the Ronaldo fan club - it's almost as if he hasn't watched him play for the past 6 months. I have seen Ronaldo in every game and he constantly looks a shadow of the player he was.

The irony is, Ronaldo is really complaining about himself. The club living in the past? Ha - he's a symptom of this.

It's disappointing that he'd go after ETH like this, purely because ETH felt he had to drop him as he holds the team back (which he does). However, he's simply fortified ETH's position, 99.9% of the fans will be behind him on this.

His legacy with the club is now completely ruined. A wonderful player, but an egotistical maniac at the same time. He's a disgrace.

We can't look at the past for what he has done anymore, the past don't win trophies. Ronaldo talks about evolution...evolution is without him.

Ditto on everything... but just want to highlight this says a lot... Piers Morgan is a self-serving click machine, he will drive any controversy home for a second of extra air time.

Ronaldo pairing up with him is just the icing on his shameful image. This is about as desperate as it gets and the next step is for him to suddenly pop up in the jungle...

The idea that he should be seen as 'brave' for coming out and saying all this now seems to me a little absurd, as well as being a bit of a coincidence considering he's not being played as often as he'd like and he's nearing the end of his career...

Bet Piers is loving it though. Taking full advantage.

Roy Keane. LOL. People have such short memories and look what happened to him.

He hasn't played for United for 17 years, short memory? Didn't he do it with internal media and it was never published? Two players in 17 years is hardly 'all the time'.

Keane is also a bit of a **** as well, hardly someone to aspire to. Did he refuse to go on as a sub and walk off down the tunnel as well? Was he on 500 a week?

I could sort of understand if he did this at the end of last season after how the team finished and how it was playing but they've thrown a lot of money at the squad (lots more still needed) and it's clear that there is a plan (in ETH's head at least) to progress and it's without him, that's what this is all about.

When did Keane give an interview like this? The Keane interview that I suspect you're referring to was one for MUTV, analysing a Utd match. Keane has always denied the claims that Utd leaked to the press about what he said and around a year or so ago, Keane along with Neville done a Q&A with supporters where Neville acknowledged that Keane didn't say anything ott in the interview, even stating that Keane had previously been far harsher on his teammates in previous interviews over the years.

Utd stitched Keane up because they wanted to get him out the club.

...short memories indeed

'Internal media' just meant exclusive to MUTV which anyone could subscribe to although obviously that meant the club had editorial control over it.
I don't think anyone is suggesting people should aspire to Roy Keane, just pointing out a similar situation where a senior player who was still playing and was a top earner did a media interview criticising colleagues.
No idea of he's refused to come on a sub and walked down the tunnel, but he refused to play for Ireland and left the country (slightly different as not really 'employed' by Ireland).
He wasn't on £500k/week because nobody was paid £500k/week back then. He was however the highest earning player in the Premier League until Abramovich turned up and paid Crespo slightly more than him.

That said, from the transcript I've read he was more digging out his teammates rather than criticising the club/manager, so whilst it was a valid example to cite, it's not a directly comparable scenario.

OK, let's not digress then. They're clearly not comparable scenarios. The message and media outlet used are not in the same ballpark.

Roy Keane was the first player to go over 100K a week iirc so he was the best paid in the club and in the league. His main problem was he thought he was bigger than the manager which he obviously wasn't and he got the boot.

Ronaldo is the same he thinks he is bigger than the manager. Doesn't matter who you are the manager is always the most important part. This goes back years. Remember the Euro 2016 final when Ronaldo was on the touchline barking orders clearly going over the managers head. He has been like it since he left United.

Cantona always will be my number 7 anyway. It was never Ronaldo.

I'm most surprised at the fact anybody is surprised by this whole saga. It was always going to end like this with Ronaldo. He has shown throughout his entire career that he puts himself before anybody and anything. 12 months before he left Utd the first time he had Taggart chasing him over to Portugal, begging him to stay one more season after he got in a sulk when Utd rejected Real's offer. He even agreed with some quote from Blatter (which I believe turned out to be fake) that Utd were treating him like a slave. For years he threw his toys out of the pram at Real only to repeatedly sign new bumper contracts to persuade him to stay. He even needed to overshadow Real's CL win in his final season by announcing on the pitch that he was off.

Ronaldo cares about Ronaldo. His own propaganda machine even admitted that his motivation for leaving last summer was at least partly to do with him not wanting Messi to catch him in various goalscoring records.

Club have made a short statement

Manchester United notes the media coverage regarding an interview by Cristiano Ronaldo.
The club will consider its response after the full facts have been established.
Our focus remains on preparing for the second half of the season and continuing the momentum, belief and togetherness being built among the players, manager, staff, and fans.

Basically we'll wait until we see how much he has ****** up in the full interview

Name one senior football player who has conducted such an interview whislt still playing for the club and being their top earner.

Didn't Raheem Sterling do a dodgy unauthorised interview before he left Liverpool, saying how much of a non-money grabbing mercenary he wasn't. Not in the same league as Ronaldo, but I remember it stunk the place up a bit for Brendan Rodgers etc.
