Imagine having such an amazing and incredible legacy like Ronaldo had at the club, fans virtually worship the ground he walks on and sing his name no matter what club he went and played for...

Then ending up in this situation, where he'll be public enemy number one at the club and any respectable fan will want him as far away from the club as possible

Such a shame :(

Didn't Raheem Sterling do a dodgy unauthorised interview before he left Liverpool, saying how much of a non-money grabbing mercenary he wasn't. Not in the same league as Ronaldo, but I remember it stunk the place up a bit for Brendan Rodgers etc.

In an extended interview with BBC Sport, Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling tells Natalie Pirks he is motivated by trophies not financial rewards after confirming he has turned down a £100,000-a-week contract offer from the Reds.

The England international, who has two years left on a contract worth £35,000 a week, insists he is not "a money-grabbing 20-year-old" and says his sole focus is playing football and achieving success with Liverpool this season.

Sterling, who joined Liverpool from QPR in February 2010 and has scored 22 goals in 122 appearances for the club, also talks about scoring his first senior goal for England and playing wing-back for

This one? Seems quite different. Still think Ronaldo is a massive **** for doing this and I accept other players are ****s too.

The minute he hit form after nearly 4 years doing nothing of substance he wanted out. They had to do a deal to get him to stay for another season. He's far from a club legend. He's a Real Madrid legend.

This is the nuts thing... He performed for 3 seasons (2 seasons before spitting his dummy out) and somehow every United fan decided to put him on a pedestal.

He was the star in a trio of superb forwards with one blistering season (07/08). Nothing more, nothing less.

Ronaldo was a great player for MU but his legend status was probably shaped by fact he went on to become one of the two best players of the millenium, in terms of what he achieved at MU, yes he was very good, but there's some others that delivered for MU over a longer period. So the likes of Giggs and Scholes should be considered bigger MU legends than him (notwithstanding recent revelations about Giggs' private life) even prior to this latest outburst.

I bet ten Hag is secretly pretty happy about all of this. Its a big battle he looks set to win. To be honest it strengthens his position, whilst heaping pressure on the board. Unfortunately for Cristiano the Premier League is not a place to have your swansong. It's exposed his fading powers and ultimately could cost him his legacy at United and his desire to hold the CL scoring record. He should have not been so financially greedy and gone to a club guaranteed CL football in a weaker league. With the position untenable it makes it more likely we can sign a striker in January. It will be fascinating to see if he can have any impact at the world cup or if it will be a tournament too far.

God imagine if he took Portugal to the final and singlehandedly won it for them!? That would certainly be a turn of events

Public enemy number one?

Sounds a bit dramatic, personally I’ll still see him as a legend. I think most other fans will too. Should have gone in the summer transfer window though. Was never going to end well after that.

Would have been more of an issue if he had gone to MC

He was never ever going to Man City imo. He played United.

Just an aging star having a meltdown at his fading ability to perform.

After what he's been through personally this year, I have no idea why he's still kicking a ball around. He's only playing to chase records at this point. It's a sacrifice too far, he needs to stop and learn to live a life away from the grass and deal with the mental anguish he's clearly not dealt with.

Hes just coming across as a fragile little man baby. All the stuff about the Glazers etc is stuff the fans have known for years. Hes just tacking that onto the end of this to make it sound like hes not just a completely self-centred ass.

Good riddance, take the play acting and strops somewhere else. If you're Ten Hag you have to take this as a blessing, the one big blot on an evolving and improving squad has made it even easier to get rid, and he'll now have some ammunition to see what's available in the January market - maybe a world cup breakout player.

If he was banging in goals and performing this would be a non issue and he would be playing every week. It also didn't help that our best performances came when he wasn't playing.

Also he had a pretty good season from a goals scored perspective last season so why didn't he push on in the summer and fight for his spot instead of missing pre-season and walking out of games before they have even finished?

Best thing that has happened to us is that we can just rip up his contract and we have a whole month to start tapping up players to come in January. 26 Million a year off the books to go on a hungry young striker. It is a win win for us and for Ronaldo who is going to take him?
