The Manchester United Club Thread **Sponsored by Comedy Central**

Released a statement:

Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped.
The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.

Sort of damning that they wouldn’t have planned for all eventualities already and had something pre-canned in place accordingly.

Doesn’t look good on them in my opinion.

They probably have things planned for any and all eventualities, you can't just put it into action in an instant.

No way you want anything to do with him, despite not being convicted, the videos themselves are enough to warranty termination.

United will want to swiftly move on from this, currently all appears well in the squad/place, and the last thing ETH will want is bringing someone like that back to training/playing etc.

I wouldn't be so sure. Hes potentially a £100m+ asset they paid nothing for. The decision they will be making at the moment is how likely is he to do something like this in the future and how much backlash will there be if they let him back in.

There is a long list of footballers who have been accused at the very least and convicted in some cases and their careers were largely unaffected.

Ronaldo - accused of rape
Neymar - accused of rape
Benzema/Ribery - paying for sex with underage prostitute
Griezmann - racism - filmed it, clear cut
Joey Barton - assault and prison
Zouma - animal abuse

God knows how many that have been caught drink driving which in my books should be a far more serious crime.

Its nowhere near as clear cut as people are suggesting.

Jesus, I read on socials a couple of weeks ago they were seen back together as a couple and to expect this to get dropped. I didn't think it was true. But even odder than all that is the stance to not say something libellous, people slander almost every company under the sun across this forum and no one ever cares. The same with other celebrities. :D :p

I wouldn't want him anywhere near a club I was a fan of, but he's going to be worth £100m so no one will care this time next year apart from some stadium 'banter'.

I'd agree if it wasn't for the video, that is damning evidence and there is just no explaining it away. No he hasn't been convicted in a court so he can't be punished by the state but that doesn't mean the public give him a pass and can you imagine any sponsor wanting him near their name and product now? I would imagine ManU will be speaking to their sponsors and monitoring social media closely before making any decisions.

I never said he or she was paid off. Just that I could never imagine an amount of money that could pay off my brother if this happened to his daughter. I also know he'd never make a statement like that if he saw a video like that and it was his daughter. A father is supposed to be there for his children, not making a statement about how the alleged rapist was "a member of the family".
You replied to Rob speculating that her father could have been paid off with "You have to feel for that girl when she has a father like that." :/

Yes I do feel for her with a father like that. If I had a daughter I want to kill him after that video and the photos. I'm sure his daughter told him what had happened as well.

Just reading loads of comments on social media… - I know, I know - saying ‘poor lad, he should be allowed back, she ruined his life, trial by media’ etc etc

We live in strange times where there’s literal audio evidence where she calls him by name and he is forcing her and threatening her and people still think he’s completely innocent and she has somehow ruined his life.

My god.

Look you don’t know the lad on a personal basis to know if he’s a horrible person. It’s just audio even if it does sound like we think it sounds.

I had a mate who was accused of beating his misses, the girl released a audio clip of an incident, it didn’t sound great but it certainly did contain enough of anything to make a conclusive judgement.

Everyone has done something wrong on some level or another, I know we have a forum full of saints but this is an anomaly. The guy deserves a chance to show he’s not what everyone thinks he is. If United sack him then fine whatever but if they don’t then fine but let this be a lesson to you.
