US: The Mandalorian

Are the puppets actual puppets or CGI puppets? Honestly can't tell because it's done so well and it fits Star Wars but the budget must be massive.

Baby Yoda is an actual puppet (probably multiple versions of him) the rest i think are a mix of practical and cg for some elements.

Is there anything he won't eat?

Is it me or is the sound mix off? I have to use a "cinema" DSP profile or it is hard to make out the dialogue and background/foreground sounds conflict with each other.

Weird - everything else plays fine - tried 2 different setups and it is the same dialogue sounds like it has significant attenuation in the middle of the frequency range and sound effects sound a bit jumbled for want of a better way to describe it. Having to DSP it to make it properly listenable.

Loved it.

Baby Yoda is Beast.

Also loved the way this had a whole Smoky and the bandit fee.

Also loved the practical effects even in space. Real models and not CGI

Wasn't a bad episode but a bit weak in comparison to the first one of the season and borrowed a bit too heavily from well known sci-fi movies and games as well as reusing situations from the Star Wars movies a bit too literally.

-Canyon run
-Monster(s) in an ice cave
-Gonarch
-Alien(s)

To name but a few

Oh man that was one disappointing filler episode...
  • [*]The lady mechanic Pelli Motto is super cheesy with terrible lines, it's jarringly bad
[*]When questioned by the New Republic Xwings Mando acts about as convincingly and as cooly as a 15 year old kid caught in a lie about his homework.
[*]A pragmatic mandalorian who knows how much he relies on his spaceship just crash lands in an unknown ice cavern and the ship cracks like an eggshell... but he fixes it with a hand repair kit... ugh.
[*]Baby yoda ate multiple “precious” eggs and the frog mother doesn’t notice and go crazy?
[*]Baby Yoda apparently understands everything being said through the robot and tries to make Mando feel guilty for not carrying out 'the deal'?
[*]New republic Xwings help kill the spiders then just fly off potentially leaving them to die?
    [*][*]Zero tangible plot advancement

I am all about suspension of disbelief but this is just lazy, crummy writing and I really expected more from the second season after what a surprise hit this became and presumably how much more budget and management focus it now has. The first two episodes at least should have been a 2-part epic to further the plot before the cheesy filler crap started.

I'll watch it because it's Star Wars and that makes it enjoyable to some degree, but so far it isn't a patch on the first season in anything other than special effects.

Although I would say the story is going slowly at the moment, its a visual and creative masterpiece. Captures the sound and feel of Star Wars and their CGI approach works amazingly well.

After the disappointed of the sequels this show is refreshing. As a life long star wars fan nearing 40 years, It really feels like the show runners have as much love for Star wars as I do.

The director's really have a respect for the Star wars fandom and cannon.

I honestly feel like a kid again watching this show. A different adventure every week and a problem to solve like old 80's TV shows like the A-team.

I don't care if its not diverting my expections.

It's fast becoming one of my favourite TV shows for quite some time. Every episode feels like it simultaneously manages to pay tribute to the original trilogy whilst treading new ground, Favreau and co. have managed to find a great balance between the two. I love that they use a mix of practical sets/puppets and incredibly believable CGI, the use of Unreal engine is brilliant. I know some people say it's developing a bit slowly and certain episodes don't really push the story forward very much, but personally I quite like the format.

My only complaint about the show is that some of the episodes are a bit short. Minus ads they're between 35 and 40 minutes long. I think they could do with being a touch longer, more like the 48 minutes of the season 1 finale or the 52 minutes of the season 2 opener, but that's quite a minor complaint in what is otherwise a phenomenal show.

"Frog lady speaking frog" - Subtitles are excellent in eps2 whilst doing a rewatch! :D

Whilst not the strongest episode I still enjoyed it. I would agree that the episodes are kind of short especially given that they are taking their time over story telling. Which I approve of, not exposition driven dash from one thing to another.
It remains beautiful to look at and I like the fact there are so few characters. It is just so at odds with most TV out there and I'm kind of liking that.
