Anyone used Niven & Joshua?
I wanted to try some Proraso Sensitive Skin cream. When looking around the cheapest I could find was on this site. Not only are they the cheapest but they offer free delivery. On top of that 5% Quidco.
Just a shame its awaiting stock. Looks like most of their TOBS stuff is too. Still I like the idea that you can pre-order.

Think ive narrows by three fav blades now being Perma Sharp Super, Wilkinson Sword and Gillette Silve Blues, not sure what kind of blades these are but so far giving smooth finishes with the least amount of irritation.

Hi anyone recommend me a shaver please. I want to move away from my Gillette Mach 3 as I'm sick of paying for expensive cartridges. I also have a thick stubble after 3 days of a clean shave, so I need something that will get the job done.

Recommend me a Merkur?

Whichever free gift from shaving shack you fancy, blades are a good idea.

Then the Sample pack from Connaught shaving Captain Planet has linked.

Blades and cremes are much a muchness it's mostly down to personal preference.

On to blades after my second shave with the Feathers I find they seem to dull very quickly, felt like it was tugging and I got a very small patch of minor irritation. So I'm going to try the Astra Superior Platinum in the morning and see what they are like.

The build quality on the DE89 is superior to the Merkur razors and personally I prefer a three piece razor to a two piece as I think it's easier to keep clean. Plus, the DE89L is a bit cheaper than the Merkur equivalent.

The cleaning aspect should not dictate your decision on which is the best brand of razor, in my opinion of course. Merkur is a solid choice and has its great reputation for a very good reason. This is not to say that other makes are worse or that there are not better choices to be made.

Find a brand or a model which works for you as your absolute number one priority. If you can also clean it to tick any OCD boxes or preferences you might have then this is way, way down the list. Razors are designed to do what they do and you don't have to clean them unless, as I've said before, this ticks a particular need box for you.

I say this with all due respect Feek and am not aiming this directly at you but the cleaning thing is a big non-debate on shaving forums as I'm sure you know. It is very frustrating, misleading and disingenuous, again in my opinion.

I totally agree that it's personal preference but I'm sure more people would rather have a piece of equipment that looks nice than one that's covered in soap scum. Personally I live in a very hard water area and after just one shave, a razor is heavily coated in soap scum.

You say it makes no difference to the performance and that's right. However I'm much happier to have a clean razor than a dirty one.

A quick search on "clean my razor" at the B&B forums returns many threads, all about the best ways to clean a razor (what the hell are 'scrubbing bubbles') so I'm obviously not in a minority when it comes to 'ticking OCD boxes'.

At the level we're talking about here, the performance of a DE89L and a Merkur 34C are going to be pretty much identical so for me, the ability to take apart a three part razor for cleaning makes it more attractive than a two piece. Of course, to coin a phrase: YMMV :)

YMMV, absolutely agreed :)

Apologies for the 'ticking OCD boxes' comment. That was ill thought out and not particularly helpful even if it does describe how these conversations typically go on other forums. Again, sorry, and I'd like to add that you have a fantastic collection. Perhaps I should post mine some time :)

Always happy to see what people have got, post it!

I'm still waiting for my razor set from Above The Tie and I'm now starting to wonder if it's gone missing, it's been almost a month.

Just to follow up on this. Posted out today. Also sent me a voucher for £0.28p off my next order (5% of my previous order). Will look to buy some new TOBS as I am starting to run out. Anyone recommend a different scent? Ive only tried Sandlewood which I thought was odd at first but now it's the scent I associate my shaves with.

Avocado is the best ToBS cream for moisturising but the rest aren't far behind. Don't be put off by the thought of it smelling like avocado, it doesn't, it's more like freshly cut grass.

The new grapefruit cream really does smell like grapefruit though and although the scent is nicely strong while actually lathering, I didn't find that it lingered around too much after the shave.

I love Shaving Shop which comes over as a very traditional scent, soapy and clean and it's my absolute favourite. Mr. Taylors is similar to Shaving Shop but a little more spicy. St. James is a very fresh scent.

Ordered both this morning.
Also the 100x Feather Blades I purchased from the Thailand eBayer turned up today. Took 7 days. Pretty impressive. Recommended seller.

Which ones, I mentioned five :)

Excellent, I'm pleased they arrived quickly. The quickest I've had was the Old Spice cream from India at four days and the slowest is my ATT set from the USA - It's been exactly one month today and still no sign. He's offered me a refund but I'd rather have the razor set :(

Can anyone recommend a decent aftershave balm please?

I bought the T&H grafton one a while back, but I find my skin is still quite tight after using it, and the pump is rubbish!

Cheers! :)

On a side note, I was quite surprised, I thought I'd buy 100 x Derby blades as they were only £8, and found them to be better than my Persona ones...

I don't like the T&H balms, I've tried a few from the sample pack but they just leave my face feeling sticky afterwards.

My regular daily balm is ToBS Shaving Shop but I also have Trumper's lime skin food which I use occasionally. Both are nicely moisturising with no sticky afterness.

Cheers Feek, I might give that a go :)
