Tried a few shaves with the Derby Blades, nowhere near as good as the Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Sharps I have but not a bad 'cheap' option but seeing as I have got 100 Gillettes I should be good for about 2 years

i'm still going through all my different types of blades, still have about 15 types to try (about 35 tried so far). I've not used Derby's or German Wilkinson Swords since i started DE shaving about 10 months ago. I'll go back to them though and see if they were bad or if it was just my technique back then.

At the moment, my favourite blades are 7 O'Clock Blacks, Russian Greens and Yellows. Followed closely by Rapira Swedish Steel, Voskhod's and Sputnik's.

Stuff from Gifts & Care in Spain.

Floid aftershave is excellent, the 400ml bottles will last me a while.

Lea Stick's (lanolin formula) are up there with MWF and VITOS Coconut as my favourite soaps, so thought i'd stock up.

Thought i'd try Polisilver Iridium's as i have a box of Super Iridium's to compare against.

i've not tried the licorice toothpaste sample or aftershave & cologne samples yet.

Funnily enough, I used a Polsilver Super Iridium this morning and it was good. It feels almost as sharp as a Feather but a bit smoother. Certainly as good as the Med Prep but more expensive. I have a feeling that they're not in production any more which would account for the cost.

Nice selection of Floid aftershaves there, never tried that make but I believe it's quite good.

From what i've read about Iridium's they should last for a lot of shaves, i'll see if that is true or not.

I've got 10 PolSilver Iridium and 10 Super Iridium, i'll test them back to back at some point.

Bought some l'Occitane shaving cream today and it will make its debut tomorrow. It's the first time in a long while that I've spent more than $20 on some cream as after trying pretty much all of the established and less well known choices over the last 10 or 15 years I've ended up using Proraso almost constantly.

Will update tomorrow :)

I've been using this for a couple of days and am not impressed at all. Think it's going in the bin. The cream comes out hard and slips off the brush and it takes a terrific amount to get a lather. The smell is acceptable.

Ive been using Gillette Fusion for a number of years now. Fancy a change.

Whats the most popular retail option/s atm?

Looking at razor/gel/foam/cream

Not sure you'll get much from people in this thread regarding your average everyday supermarket shaving equipment as their mainly Double Edge and Straight razor users.

I will say though that I have migrated from the Fusion to a Merkur 34C :p

Quick warning to anyone here wanting to try Wilkinson Sword blades (black plastic case), DO NOT BUY THEM.

Bought a pack yesterday and tried it today, had about 10 gashes on my face afterwards and I use Derby's and Feather's and none have cut me up so bad.

Funny that I dismissed this earlier on. I used one today and threw it out after use. I've never done that with one use of a blade. Lots of nicks and found it didn't cut well without multiple strokes.

Would it be illegal for companies to sell single blades that come from a pack of 5? Just thinking a true sample pack would be one blade from multiple manufacturers.

My face ends up like this with Feathers, even brings me out in spots!

Derbys don't and I get a smoother shave!

I'm not sure that one blade is really good enough for a true sample. I had some blades which didn't work well but I made sure I tried them a couple of times to make sure I didn't like them. It might not be the fault of the blade, perhaps your technique was a little off that day or maybe your lather wasn't quite up to scratch. I had an unsatisfying shave on Saturday using my normal DE89L and Med Prep, simply because the lather was a little weak.

I'm doing a theme this week just for the hell of it - All my shaves will be using cream from products one can grow. Today I used Grapefruit and for the rest of the week I'll use Rose, Avocado, Lime and Coconut :)

German Wilkinson Sword blades are fantastic in 1930s Gillettes :p They have different hone compared to something like the wedge feather so require a slight adjustment in angle/technique. Or maybe they just don't work in certain razors?

Derbys are OK, they work quite well for me too but overall have fairly poor quality control, your more likely to get a rough one. I recently purchased 100 for £3 delivered (with some Derby cream, very nice) from shavingworld's ebay store. Cheaper than getting a sample... :D
Try a smooth blade from the Lord stable (Lord Cool, ASCO, racer, Rainbow) they're almost as cheap, smoother and much more consistent.

i was wanting to give this a try but having read back quite a few pages it seems some people have scarred themselves for life and one bloke almost cut his nose off and another fella nearly lost a finger.

Its far too dangerous ill stick with mach 3 lol
