My 1st DE was a Muhle R89, love it with the Gilette 7 O'Clock Sharpedges, as for brush I got a Kent BLK02 and I do love the Proraso Ultra Sensative Cream.

Check TK Maxx if you get the chance as I got a cheap Kent bristle brush (not as good as Badger hair but a good starting point) and some Peckersniffs soap (got both for about 12 quid).

excellent TKMaxx round the corner - will check on the way home. Like the look of the badger brushes but they are NOT cheap!

I normally do a pass or 2 each time and I normally change my blades (Astra Platinum's) every 2-3 shaves. Tbh the blades are so cheap I dont really worry about changing them more than is actually needed. Im sure they would do 4-5 shaves fine.

Yeah it will take some getting used to, my Weber Bulldog was the same when i got it last year, the Weber is 68gr and slightly shorter.
My shave today was much better, I held the handle in a different place and effectively had more weight on the head and I've got none of the slight stubble I had yesterday.

how many times do you use a blade before changing?
Now my technique has improved, I can easily make a blade last a week with no problem.

Here's the Kaiser Short handle from UFO attached to a DE89 head.

What kinds of balm do people use?

I was going to get some Proraso stuff but as I was looking in Boots I saw the Dove stuff on buy 1 get 1 half price, 200ml of balm for 8 quid and it's actually good stuff.

This arrived from Portugal yesterday, i fancied trying out a boar brush, used it last night, its a good face latherer (bowl as well).

It should get much better after a month or so when it's properly broken in. Anyone not wanting to spend loads on a Badger brush should check this one out (£22 delivered from ebay).

Semogue Owners Club Boar brush in Cherry.

Visited D R Harris after work last week and picked up a puck of Almond and Windsor soaps, they are excellent!

I strongly believe that traditional shaving is the way to go. No more of an arduous task, more of a hobby now and an enjoyment to shave. If people are unsure on where to start, check out Geofatboy or Paul H Films on youtube :)

still having so much trouble not getting a rash after shaving.............

Ill shampoo the stubble, then soak it in conditioner to soften it then use oil..............then a taylors shaving cream.........

tryed loads of blades and currently using derbys.........

Then use alum block after to reduce chances of spots and rash, and ingrowing hair.......

I want to be permanantly clean shaven but am sore for days afterwards so have to let it grow almost into a beard again.

Ive tried now for almost two years...........

I use a merkur 34c would a chance of razor make any difference?

I could also be the products.

Maybe give cold water shaving a try, your beard wont be so soft when you want a blade to cut through it.

Grab a Palmolive soap stick and some witch hazel from the supermarket (about £3).

splash your face with cold water, then rub the soap into your beard and build the lather on your face for a couple of minutes. That will remove 3 of your steps.

Try witch hazel after the shave instead of Alum.

see how you get on with shaving that way.

(Alum and TOBS cream along with all other Creighton's cream's cause issues for me)
