Ive got pathetically sensitive skin and found that the aloe-vera strips on some razors (Gilette etc.) were causing burning & rash :(

Now Im on those cheapo throwaway Bic razors. yes...those orange ones! They have a single blade and no annoying "lubricating" strip.

After a 10-min super-hot shower I immediately shave with one of these. No balm, no gel, nothing. Just hot skin and blade. A dream shave. Blade just glides across and in about 3 mins I have the cleanest, closest shave. Im real happy! Each razor lasts about 2 weeks before it dulls.

Tip: Put some showergel on your fingertip and rub it onto your bathroom mirror. Will stay clear for about 3 days even in steamed up bathroom.

You haven't heard of most of them? Most of them are pretty common blades, a few 'odd' ones thou they aren't really bad. I wasn't keen on dorco which are likely the most 'out there' of the blades.

I'm not really a blade snob thou, I tend to get one with most blades ok really. Their sampler has changed since I last bought one from them, so some of the blades I've never even tried. imo the drco and treet aren't that great but some folks do like them.

I find that when I use a new blade I always cut myself, so I use the same disposible razor for a couple of months. I have quite a heavy growth but I go over the same spot a couple of times until it is shaved clean. In addition to saving the planet this method has the advantage that drunk/sober/hangover I never cut myself. I once did a 3 month IT contract using the same blade and nobody complained about me being baldy shaven or unshaven.

I'm a Lavender man myself :D

Getting on just fine with my 34C although a touch disappointed by the Derby Extras I got. Don't seem as good a the blade that came with the razor, a merkur own brand iirc.

Genuinely hadn't as I'm a DE shaving newbie. So I've just gone for the popular pack. 55 blades for £10.50 and free delivery - works out less than 20p a blade.

I ordered myself a 34C yesterday as a bit of an early Christmas prezzie for myself, been using a Parker for the last few years since switching over & I'm looking forward to trying such a highly regarded razor.

the 34c is an awesome bit of kit. when it came, i was like hmm....this can't be it, as it came in a very small box (which i still keep it in to this day) i got off to a semi bad start with it though, i nicked myself a couple of times and got a bit disheartened. but just kept at it and now, i don't usually cut myself at all.

i found one of the best creams i've used is the ingram cream in the blue/white tube. i never cut myself with that stuff, and it leaves your face feeling cooler than proraso :D

Now I was really tempted when I ordered to get a 34C but I resisted. Thought I'd get something different so that I could provide feedback to you guys.

Quick question..is there any difference other than the obvious build quality and tactile enjoyment between a £4 Wilkinson Sword DE and something like a Merkur?

The weight is a lot different, the cheap boots razor I used to see if I could manage to shave with a DE & not kill myself hardly carried any weight at all, the Parker I'm using now feels like a serious bit of kit.

The Weight is important. The extra weight helps a lot of with using a better technique. With the Merkur you simply use the weight of the razer as you shave where as with the lighter razor you may end up applying downward pressure which is another variable to worry about and increasing chance of cutting yourself or getting a poorer shave.

Just used a Merkur Futur in anger for the first time. Magnificent piece of engineering, cannot believe its taken me 14 years to discover.

Same, though its over 20 years for me :D

I can finally throw away the numerous shaving impliments I have aquired over the years.

My 34C arrived this morning with a few other bits, shame I had a shave yesterday as I won't get to try it out for a few days, nevermind, hopefully it'll be worth the wait.
