You should treat yourself & invest in a good razor, brush & soap, you may well cut yourself up a bit getting used to it, but I think it'll be better for your neck if an electric shaver is giving you grief. Get an alum block or styptic pencil too if you think you might need it.

Think i might have to. Ill take cuts over a completely red neck :)Good to know that something out there might help though

same thing happens to me with my philips shaver. ive found using a beard trimmer without the clip a lot better but this can take slightly longer

Aye, i use sideburn trimmer attachment on the philips to take the worst off and that doesnt irritate my skin. But had an interview today so needed to break out the shaver part, not good.

what is the best way to trim sideburns?

i am fine with the length and shape of mine, but they are just a little too thick at the mo, especially since i've just had a haircut recently which is shorter than i usually have.

like i said, all i want to do is just manage the thickness of them. would an electric razor (for shaving headhair) with a guard on it suffice?

I'm still dealing with acne at 25, I'm thinking my cheap way of shaving might be irritating my face and making it worse, and looking into buying some decent shaving tools. I'm not really sure whats best to use for acne prone skin, i've read shaving oils can give you spots, could someone recommend a good shaver, foam/oil, skin wash, moisturizer etc

You're probably right about the irritation.

Try taking a look at acne.org, they've got a great skin regimen for dealing with acne and it accommodates shaving.

Worked for me

I buy mine from Shaving Shack. If I buy something else I try and get the blades free. :D Don't think I've actually paid for any blades since I made the original order. :)

yeah but I _was_ going to get a brush stand too
but that makes it £4 more! the stands only £3.99!

Ah. :D

Er well you could buy £10 of stuff (excluding blades) and then choose the blades free? :p I suppose Shaving Shack want you to buy a fair bit of stuff every time to make the £4 delivery look decent and not exorbitant.

You could try emailing them and asking if they'll waive the £4 delivery if you just buy a brush stand? And make the blades another order to get free delivery on that.

just got my order from the shaving shack! damn these guys are generous i tell you.

originally i ordered some proraso shaving cream in a tube (150ml) which is huge btw. :D also some proraso liquid cream aftershave balm. and a ten pack of feather blades.

they also threw in for free a exfoliating body puff, 2 x 5 pack of derby blades, and another 10 pack of unbranded blades.

win :D definately be going there again.

I'm very tempted to get a merkur razor.

I've always used a Gillette mach 3 turbo. I don't shave at the weekend but during the week by about wednesday I have a horrible red rash/soreness under my chin and around my neck. I'm guessing this is down to the rubbish razor?

It's just hard to justify laying down about £30 on one razor :o!

I've also never used a single blade razor, i'm guessing you shave with the same technique?

if you are unsure about whether or not to try double edged razors, there is a wilkinson sword DE razor which will cost you about £1.50 which comes with some blades too. i first tried this razor and it worked great. excellent razor for the price!

basically, go from there. if you liked the shave, then buy a merkur :) remember to use it with some shave cream rather than the goop they put in cans.

here is the razor i am talking about - http://wilkinsonsword.co.uk/men/showroom/classic

i picked mine up from poundworld for £1 (obviously) :p

and here is a cream i'd recommend trying.

http://www.traditionalshaving.co.uk...ING-CRE-CRE/297699/Shaving-Cream-With-Menthol

if you shop at traditionalshaving, use this promo code at checkout "bandb" without commas. you'll get discount.

if you nip down to a pharmacy though, they usually have the ingram cream on special for a quid. it comes in green or blue variety, the blue is for use with a shave brush (although i use it regularly in just my hands) and the green tube is for a brushless shave.

hope this helps.

sorry to bump, but just got a sample pack in the post from Geo.f Trumper. heres a pic. it containted quite a lot of stuff. set me back £5 though. :p

much the same.
you save loads on the blades but lose on the other bits,
when you can get 10 for a couple of quid, compared to £7+ for 4 disposables etc.

From my point of view I've not regreted giving up the gillette and moving to a Merkur DE razor.

I found that with the gillette I was getting very bad shaving rash around the neck most mornings which was still sensitive until around 12-1pm in the afternoon. With the Merkur its completely gone (unless I rush and even then its no where near as bad as the gillette)

Another thing I've noticed is that if I didn't shave for 2-3 days the gillette really struggled, where as I've gone 8 days without shaving and the Merkur didn't have any problems at all. Shaved without a hint of shaving rash or cuts.

Plus the razor itself may be £25.00-30.00 but the blades are cheap as chips, and if you use someone like shave shack they'll give you a ton of blades free with the razor.
