Could do with some new shaving cream now that the one I got with the starter pack is almost out. Anyone with any good recommendations for one that smells nice?

The Taylor of Old Bond Street avocado shaving cream smells like freshly cut grass, awesomeness.

I have just got myself a merkur etc but I am looking for an alternative to a badger brush.
Is there an alternative thats as good or nearly as good?

Iv got my method almost perfect:

1. I wash my face using face wash, twice (clean dirt and mosten bristles)

2. Apply Gillete shaving sensitive foam - let soak in to skin

3. Shave using Gillete fusino blade

4. Bath or shower afterwards...

Right this method gives me a great day 1 shave, only issue I have is after 1-2 days I get 3-4 shaving spots (tiny ones, where the bristels are brakeing through the skin)

Any idea how to avoid these?

Thats the only imperfection to my routine.

Also I dont shaving more than once a week. Skin is too sensitive for that to shave ever 3-4 days....

Have been meaning to look at electric shavers, so I could keep it tidy, with out irritation, but.... these electric razer are too expensive, unless someone knows a good one?

Quick question that I'm sure has already been answered but I don't fancy trawling through this thread.

I have a beard/gotee, How easy is it to shave with a Merkur for example? Compared to a Gilette Fusion. The Gillette is starting to drive me insane with the blades, Yes, I tried the Proglide ones. Was great for the first two shaves. Then back to a normal fusion shave.

Seriously thinking about grabbing one.

What would you guys recommend for stubble? I'm not that fond of having a completely clean shave. No real limit on money as i'm after something decent!

Brush wise, vulfix, kent, simpson, rooney or shavemac are good, take your pick, has to be badger of course.

For stubble, a babyliss istubble gets mentioned a fair bit.

As for shaving with a merkur, quite easy so long as you remember it's a live blade and take your time when learning.

Ello,

I currently use gillette fusion etc, but sick of paying a **** load for new razors and they don't seem to last one. Kinda in the same situation as unkn0wn. I was looking at this, someone linked previously. How much different is it using one of these? Harder? And what else would I need? Can I just use regular shaving foam or? Completely new to this! How much are the blades? Not sure if this has been asked/answered before but its quite a big thread!

Is there maybe a cheaper one than linked thats a good one for a first timer?

Cheers and I appreciate any advice!

Looks like a nice enough razor Ewaf, ideally if your going down this road you'll want a nice brush & some soap/cream to go along with it. A set of 10 blades will cost £3?

I don't find using a DE razor much harder than an gillette multiblade type thing, just take your time with them & enjoy the experience.

Cheers for reply rizzy. Thats quite cheap for the razers? How many shaves do they typically last? Is there any kind of good value kit anywhere which has everything I need? Not really clued up on the old shaving websites :D

I get maybe 4-6 shaves out of a blade? my friend changes his after 2 as he's got a face like a brillo pad. I started down the route of DE shaving with a cheapo thing from Boots & then onto a starter set & I've recently brought myself a Merkur HD, which most people, myself included love. I tried to find some started kits, but failed, so, have a look at -

sign up for there news letter & get 10% of your order & if you spend over £10 you get a free gift which'll cover a set of blades for you, it might seem like a bit of a big spend to start with, but at most you'll need to buy a set of blades once in a while & some more cream/soap.

Can be quite pricey then! I picked up the new gillete proglide power for half price, going to give it ago,,,although the razors are like 17quid for 6 :@. Will probably get myself something similar to what you advised when I've run out of fusion blades...

Although I love my Merkur and the results I'm getting, I'm not going to say Proglides (and the like) are rubbish. Quite the opposite actually. My old Gillette Fusion gave me a pretty good shave with just one pass and I could be really quick and dirty with it and not slice my face to ribbons. If I was running late in the morning I would probably still use it instead of my Merkur. The blades are expensive of course, but if I'm just using it was am emergency standby then that's less of an issue :)

I got a Merkur 33C on Friday and had my first proper shave with it... amazing! First time in quite a while i've had such a close shave - my face looked noticeable cleaner. I found even with a fresh blade on my old 4 blade fusion it wasn't particularly close.

One thing I noticed is that after doing one side of my face straight after applying oil and gel/foam it was a lot harder than doing the other side - i'm guessing I need to wait some time for the beard to soften? The 2nd side of my face was amazing - couldn't even feel the thing! Glad I saw this thread :)

So the basic stuff you need is, Razor, Razor Blades, Brush, Cream? Are there any favourable brand of blades and do you have to buy them online or does some highstreet shop stock em?
