On the Merkur razors, well, any safety razor for that matter, the blades. What's with the numbers on either side, or the arrows?

The tell the manufacturers which machine sharpened that edge. They have nothing to do with how to put the blade in or anything.

Has anyone used bluebeards revenge?
Is it any good?

Does anyone have any other shaving soap recommendations?

Shave gurus: Spec me a shaving set?

Im sick and tired of Gillette razors.

Heard a lot about DE safety razors (I think thats what theyre called) and fancy one :)

So, spec me a nice set with razor, brush and foam/oil/whatever :)

Dont want to spend a huge amount, 30 quid maybe?

Depends on what im getting for the money :)

Dan

I tried the 2 sided jobbies I found it took me ages to have a shave I like the convenience of a gillette. Prehaps I gave up to early and there are better ones out there?

A decent DE will cost 30 quid on its own. A good soap or cream will be between 10 and 30 and the brush will be in excess of 20 for anything half decent.

This is a decent place to see how much it'll cost.

Fairs one, guess my price range will be going up then :)

Dont want to spend a huge amount though :)

Just need a bit of guidance as to what im looking for in each component really :)

I posted this a few replies ago Megahurtz, it's pretty much what I use at the moment, it does the job, you could spend less or a whole lot more, but it works for me.

have a look at -

sign up for there news letter & get 10% of your order & if you spend over £10 you get a free gift which'll cover a set of blades for you, it might seem like a bit of a big spend to start with, but at most you'll need to buy a set of blades once in a while & some more cream/soap.

All i want is to be able to shave without a bad rash ive been just shaving with a hair trimmer on a number one for ages. But now im getting older i cant get away with it.

Plus the new bird says it gives her thighs a rash:D

Take a look at mantic59 videos on youtube. He will show you all you ever need to know on the subject.

I started with a starter kit, razor, brush, cream from tradtionalshaving.co.uk

Also get a styptic pencil just in case ;)

There are plenty of comprehensive guides to shaving, on shaving shack, most of their ad/review videos for products are pretty much a guide in themself.

Foam wise, ye don't

Go asda and buy yourself a cheap palmolive shaving soap stick, or if cream some blue ingram from superdrug.

Foam is nasty stuff, my skin feels dirty when i use it, goes against the whole point of de shaving.

Body shop sell a reasonable shaving brush for a few quid, you can get better online but we're talking high street here.

Failing that some sell wilkinson sword brushes, but not ideal it will get the job done and is dirt cheap.

Body shop macca root shaving cream is meant to be nice mind.

Bought the starter soap kit from traditionalshaving.

Quite a pricey initial cost but it should be a lot cheaper in the long run which is why I went for it, even though I don't shave often.
But wow there's such a difference going from a Gilette Mach 3 Turbo! Glad I bought it :)
