i use that cream. i also use the palmolive shave stick from superdrug (75p). both work well, palmolive is harder to lather but kinder to my skin. taylors is a slightly easier shave but i find it stings a little.

Palm olive shave sticks are cheap and great. imo soaps are hard to learn to use than creams coming from canned foam but worth trying out. I found making good lather was harder than the shaving. A good or bad lather really effects the whole shave.

Whats the number system about?

Spec me some soap and a brush please.

(I get shaving spots easy etc, will this help with that also?

Shaving spots is down to either:

- Not properly washing the face before shaving to remove daily dirt / oil / grime,
- Not properly washing the face after shaving (to remove reminants of shaving soap),
- Pulling the hairs before cutting (which most multi blade razors do),
- Not moisterising after shaving
- Ingrowing hairs.

Watch some of Mantic59's videos on youtube, he has a boring voice but if you can get past that then there is a lot of great content. I found the Q&A videos the most helpful.

Has anyone used the Wilkinson Sword shaving soap in a plastic bowl you see in Boots or the supermarket? Is it any good?

Used to use that when I was using the 'Scratchy 5 blade hack yer face and chuck away' razors, it wasn't bad, but didn't really help the blades glide! came with a nice Badger Hair brush though!! which I still use :)

I'm currently using the Bodyshop stuff in a tub, designed for sensitive skin, feels nice!

My Merkur 23C came yesterday!!, Gonna do my First DE/Safety shave tonight!! wish me luck!!

(might chicken out and wait till the weekend so my scars have a chance to heal!!)

if you're going to make a change to the way you shave at least get something with a little luxury.

I'd recommend something like Proraso shaving cream which you can get from many places. Its an Italian cream made from eucalyptus oil and menthol which smells fantastic and gives a great shave.

:)

Rod neep is another brush entirely

New forest is a guy called fido in the tsr forums, but you can grab them from the link i provided, he's a top chap.

Edit - Just had a nose at the rod neep brushes, the knots on the new forest brushes looks to be a good deal better, least to my eyes.

Opps my bad, I've been looking at so much stuff recently it's all just blended into one big mess!:)

So I wasn't quite ready to test out my Edwin Jagger blade, but did practice some lather with my badger brush and aloe soap.

Still used my Fusion Proglide, but it was much better than when using King of Shaves shaving gel.

I'd be interested in this too!!..

As I said I've got an old Badger brush from Wilkinson Sword and Bodyshop Shaving soap...

I've looked at the 'Bluebeards Revenge' stuff (got a flyer with my 23c) are they any good??

dono about a brush, I'd like to know a decent one around the 25-30 quid mark, but as for soap Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving Soap is great, especially good for sensative skin, leaves the face super soft and smells nice too.

if you prefer cream I've just got a tub of Taylor of Old Bond St Shaving Cream Sandalwood. I love the smell and it seems to be a good cream, Doesn't leave my face as soft as mitchells but works just as well.

Is the soap easy enough to lather up? How long does one of those bars last for?

But honestly before I throw away £40 odd quid, this DE razor stuff, is potentially the answer to my issue of not being able to shave more than once a week? Twice a week would be perfect.

Can an absolutle beginner get on with a DE blade tho?

Yep, I did not cut myself on my first shave. It was until about my 5th shave that I got a cut.
Wilkinson sell a brush, its' not that bad but with this kind of stuff the more you pay, the softer it will be.

I'm going to buy my first De Razor this weekend and need a little advice. My main worry is that I'm going to use it to shave my head every 2 days so I was thinking is it worth spending a little more and getting the Merkur Futur which seems to be adjustable and hopefully less likely to cut my head or will it be better buying something lighter like a Merkur 34c??
