This seemed like a good video for how to shave with one of those Merkur blades.

Would shaving with one of these blades, allow me wto shave more than once a week tho, considering I have sensitive skin and get shaving spots easily?

You can still use regular gillette shaving foam with these razers right?

I wouldn't say it is that great a video. He doesn't tell you a lot of the things you need to know. Manic59 videos are better for a new DE shaver imo They talk about blade angle and using short strokes over flat facets and stuff.

That video does show how easy it is when you are experienced but not much else. I believe you should be able to shave more than once a week with a DE but nobody can say for sure.

You can use shaving foam with them if you like.

I could shave once a week max with my old fusion. moved to the £3.70 boots DE, with astra SP blades and i can shave once a day no probs. It has been revolutionary for my skin

Once a day?

Twice a week would be unbelivably mazing for me. I look so much better and feel more confident (around woman) when Im shaven, but just cant do it more than once a week presently.

So you reckon a DE shaver is a solution?

i cant say for sure, everyone is different. main thing is why not give it a go.

go to boots, buy the £3.70 DE own brand. Go to supedrug, buy the palm olive shave stick (75p) and cheapo brush (£5). Give it a go, worst that can happen is that you loose a tenner.

Blades make a big difference, i use astra Superior platinum. £5 for 50 on ebay. very smooth

Edit- And whatch the geofatboy / mantic59 videos on youtube. Its a very difference technique!!

The only DE razer boots have is a Wilkinson one.

Same thing right?

Good grief watching some of the videos, i would slice myself to pieces i reckon, i have to electric shave due to my skin hating being wet shaved as i break out in hundreds of white spots and some get large, hardly ideal..BUT with that said im curious about this type of shaving and might pick some bits up after christmas and give it a shot.

I wet shaved the other day for the first time in years. The day after I had a red rash which deeloped into small white spots. They are now gone and rash is going away but its still itchy

How do you stop this? I used Gillette gel, Gillette Fusion shaver and hot water

Babyliss shaver/beard trimmer all the way

The only thing that stopped it for me was to abandon foams, gels, soaps etc and go for Shave Oil. And not just a few drops like in the adverts, I needed basting like a turkey to reduce the irritation down to near zero (I have very sensitive skin)

I got a 34C, shaving bowl, cream and badgers brush for xmas. I've had my first shave with it today and my face is covered in blood. I don't think I've got the hang of DE shaving just yet. :p

Too much pressure mate. (Let the blade & weight of the 34C do the work). It hurts when you cut with a 34C. Be careful.

I tried it again with hotter water on my face, holding the razor from the bottom so not to apply pressure and tried making a better lather with the cream. Got better results.
At nearly 24 I can finally call myself a man! :p

LOL. I am almost 27 and barely have enough stubble to use my electric jobbie on. Shaving takes me about 20 seconds.

How thick is your lather? First pass I used quite a bit of soap and not much water, second pass used quite a bit of water with less soap. Seems much better with more water and less soap imo.

Anyone seen any good deals for one of these DE Razors etc? I want to give it a try when my Gillette blades run out.

Slightly off topic, but I've never needed to shave too often. I'm just entering my 30's and still can last a good 3-4 days before needing to shave.

I've always used electric shaver until recently when I switched to a disposable with foam.

This Christmas I was bought a Wet and Dry Electric Shaver (Philips) which is meant to be used with Foam or Gel (or without if you like the pain!).

I can honestly say that it's as good as a disposable and takes a fraction of the time.
Very comfortable afterwards too.

If I had a thicker beard I'd give these single blade ones a go, until then, this is perfect.

Any one have any recommendations for someone with sensitive skin? I currently only shave once a week, as if I try to shave ever 3-4 days, my skin will get irritated, spots, cuts, rashes, dry skin etc.....

What it means however is by the end of the week I start looking like a tramp!

I was thinking my solution would be to get an electric shaver? Not a cheap one tho, as I have had those in the past and they where terrible.

Any one have a recommendation of an electric shaver for some one with sensitive easily irritated skin?

This shaver is currently on offer £200 in Boots.

But is this going to solve my issue? No point me spending £200 on something that doesnt do the job.

I have really sensitive skin, so much so that I only have a couple of options for what I can use in the bath soap wise.

What I tend to do shaving wise is 3 times a week (well every 3 days) is have a hot bath, use Radox Blue - Muscle Soak, bath in that for a bit, then use a decent amount of Sommerset's Heavy Beard Oil, rub that into my face, wait 30 seconds then use a disposable Gillette Blue II with my face submerged under the bath water. The oil doesnt wash off right away but the water helps with the shaving as it seems to keep the pores open and the hairs sticking out plus helps remoisturise as Im shaving.

Not sure if this is a good or bad way to do it but its what I do and have done for a good number of years.

Really? I have to shave twice a day to keep smooth. My stubble grows super fast but there's not a lot of it, it's just the circle, nothing on the side burns.:p

I've tried thick and watery, I think I need to find somewhere in-between. Just practice I guess.

Just bought a 'Merkur 23C Long Handle Chrome Plated DE Safety Razor' and a pack of 10 Merkur blades from 'The Rain Forrest'

Thought I'd pop in here and say hello to everyone!! :)

I'll post some piccies when the postie brings em for me! (should be soooooon!)

It's my first DE/Safety razor so I might have to censor the piccies to remove any blood and internals that happen to be hanging down my face post shave!! :D
