I would suggest that aiming it at a demographic that just doesn't turn up to watch your film in large numbers (<35% female attendance so far), compared to aiming at the demographic that "does" turn up in larger numbers (men >65% attendance), is probably "aiming it at the wrong demographic" if you want your film to be profitable. The original was aimed at the "right" demographic, in comparison, and made over a billion but The Marvels didn't and now its suffering the financial consequences.
Shockingly, it turns out that young to middle aged women aren't the biggest market for comic book or superhero films but, for example, they are the "right" demographic for a film like Barbie, which again made over a billion.
The only reason the original made over a billion was because it came sandwiched between the two best MCU movies ever released, people were compelled to watch it because of this when in reality it had no bearing on End game at all. If released now it would be similar or probably worse than The Marvels.
The ones that do have a male character, usually end up emasculating him
See Loki get kicked in the balls repeatedly for five minutes or smacked round the face by some butch diverse woman. He was then pretty much replaced as lead actor by a female variant of himself. Good one Disney.
And don't get me started on the bait and switch that was the (Wo)mandalorian.
Not to mention how reprehensible is depicting getting kicked in the balls is which needs to be banned from entertainment media.
Imagine a "humorous" scene where the lead actress gets repetitively and violently poked in her vagina or punched in her breasts. Yes it's unthinkable. Getting kicked in the balls is just as vile.

I watched this yesterday with my daughter who's ranked it in her top 3 favourite Marvel films but that's probably because of the cats.
It wasn't bad, maybe a 6/10 for me - Ms. Marvel came across a bit like MCU Spiderman; young neighbourhood hero who meets their idol. I quite like Captain Marvel, she definitely has the boring Superman aspect but at least she's not worried about killing people.
Just to emphasise what I was saying about the original 'Captain Marvel' movie thread and the overwhelming majority who liked it (again, I was referring to people on the forums):
Really good... Best origin film IMHO.
Thought it would be she garbage.
Im only happy when it rains
She is pretty wooden but it's fine
Flarken steals the show multiple times lol
Bit cheesy but very tolerable.
Craps all over black panther.....
Yep just saw it, fine entrance into the MCU no idea what the moaning was all about.
Was not as good as the first Ironman but its better than IM3 or Thor2 by a long shot.
Just got back and I really enjoyed it, I'm in love with Brie Larson, don't understand all the negative criticism towards her, think she pulled off the role really well.
Thought the movie was well planned and fits nicely into the whole Avengers agenda, can't wait for Avengers: End Game
Saw it at 4:00 p.m with my wife, and the cinema was mainly full of teenagers straight out of school but they were well behaved, which surprised me.
Pleased to say I really enjoyed it, though i'd say it took a good 10 minutes to get in to. The action was decent, but I wouldn't say there was anything that stood out as top tier marvel action (nothing like the Cap vs Bucky fight in Winter Soldier), but I really liked the interplay between Brie and Sam Jackson, and anything involving the cat.
I wouldn't say the main plot was surprising, but it was certainly engaging.
I didn't know exactly what was going to happen, but I guessed the neck implant would be something quite major and that the Supreme A.I would turn out to be bad in some way. I really liked Ben Mendelsons character/arc, that he wasn't looking for a weapon but just looking to reunite with his family, and that the Skrulls were the ones being hunted down.
I was hoping that there would be a big reveal that someone in the MCU had been a skrull all along, but alas not
Brie was really good in the role, and it was hardly ramming feminist propaganda down our throats! There was one short sequence where
You see the human Carol, getting up over and over again throughout moments of her life, as a young girl and all the way through Airforce training, but it's no different from Cap getting up after a beating and saying "I can do this all day"
Oh and I thought it was very amusing that there was literally a scene with a man telling Brie Larson to smile...and that surely must have been filmed prior to the furore after the first trailer, as it was integrated in to the plot (i.e stealing the guys motorbike) so that was very prescient.
Really nice nod at the end where Fury sees Carol "Avenger" Danvers and changes it to the Avengers protocol.
It’s good, not the best origin story but I enjoyed it throughout. Didn’t look at my watch once.
I did feel they kept the best of her abilities for End Game. The girl can fly through space across galaxies!? Can punch through space ships and I get a feeling she can put a hole through a planet if she hit hard enough.
Saw this last night. Glad I read several reviews first as I went in expecting it to be absolute trash, I only wanted to watch it to see how it will tie in with End Game. It wasn't the best marvel film by any means but it was very very decent, solid 7/10 from me, don't know what all the moaning is about tbh.
Was ok not the best Marvel by any means but still an enjoyable watch, the fight scenes at the start were really hard to read and had as much movement and shaky cam as Takens infamous fence jump then it found it's way and had the subtle Marvel humour. The homage to Stan Lee was good at the start and they should use that on Endgame too. Coulsen felt more of a cameo which was a shame.
The mid credit scene ties in nicely for Endgame and the after credits scene isn't worth sticking around for as all it does is explain how a certain item that appears throughout the movie is kept on Earth.
I saw it earlier this morning and thought it was pretty good, 7 out of 10 as several others have said as well. Not the best Marvel movie but not bad either. Liked the interaction between Jackson and Brie and am really looking forward to the Endgame now, will be really interesting to see how that works out.
I enjoyed it. Thought it was one of the funniest Marvel films they've done. Special effects were cool. Story was okay. Samuel L Jackson was ace. Brie Larson was a little wooden; she doesn't quite have the presence that Gal Godot had in Wonder Woman. It sits around the middle of my Marvel top to bottom list.
Wathced it last night, really enjoyed it. Like some others have said i like the 90s stuff (my era), the music, old tech and what we had to put up with lol (loading CD). Don't know why its getting slated in places, i enjoyed it more than black panther, the origin story and how it tied things together to what we already know was done really well. In terms of enjoyment apart from the second attempt at fantastic four, and iron man 3 i havent really come across a bad marvel film yet, and they werent awful awful in my eyes, but as someone else has also stated if your a comic/marvel fan then i think its really hard to come across a marvel film that you dont get at least some sort of enjoyment out of.
The film was great, its setup things very nicely for endgame and i think we can all agree we cant wait for it to come out
I'm generally quite easy to please when it comes to films, so far from a harsh critic, but I'd put this one above most of the other Marvel films I've seen.
I watch it last night, really enjoyed it. A nice handling of the backstory, feeds everything in seamlessly to the MCU and found the humour to be very well placed too.
A lot better than I expected after being rather underwhelmed by the trailers.
I really enjoyed it as did my Son. Some nice laughs, a nice tribute to Stan Lee as well and that end credit scene. Brie was good as well and nowhere near as wooden as people were worried about. Overall a good Marvel film but it's no Winter Soldier.
Also a real shame they couldn't give Melinda May a cameo. There was one scene in the stairwell where they could have easily put her in just for a second but they fluffed it.
Saw this yesterday, another decent mid ranking Marvel movie. Probably 6.5/10. Was mostly entertained throughout. Can't say I felt there was any 'feminist agenda' being pushed in the movie either. Danvers definitely seemed OP by the end though .
Didn't like how the timeline broke though and had SHIELD called SHIELD already in 1995. That was a running joke all through Iron Man 1 that they were working on the name as it was a mouth full and only came up with the acronym later.
Flerkin cat was the best bit though, my wife wants one now haha
Went to see it yesterday, showing in 3D Imax. Enjoyed it very much, probably a 7/10 for me but glad I went to see it. Really looking forward to Endgame now!
Watched it last night, thought it was awesome. Not to the levels of the very best Marvel films like the first Avengers or Infinity war but a solid 8 from me. Can’t wait the see her in End Game.
Not sure what all the “OMG feminism” rage was all about by the perpetually outraged alt right types. Didn’t even register whilst watching the film nor were her statements note worthy.
I dont understand where captain marvel will fit in, in end game. We already know thor, with stormbreaker, is powerful enough to kill a fully powered thanos on his own. When i think about how they are going to undo the "click", the only way i can think of is time travel. Is this where marvel comes in, can she time travel?
Watched this and was pleasantly surprised that the pre release bad press and concerns didn't appear founded.
Fairly solid MCU origins movie with its moments and the de - ageing of Coulson and Fury was actually fairly well done which makes a change from some of the attempts made in recent films to digitally alter actors.
Went to see it last night with my wife, who actually got me into superhero films.
Thoroughly enjoyed it, with some of the references to Top Gun being somewhat amusing. This was especially evident in the theme of desire to fly, one upmanship and bonding. The end credits were also a massive nod, sans Kenny Loggins.
However, it was also good to see a superhero, fully actualised, enjoying their superpowers. You could see Captain Marvel actually buzzing with life when unburdened by previous ties and kicking backside. She did retain the humanity she previously had, but was just so much more.
It was fun, very fun.
I am sure Endgame will bring it to a more downbeat level, and we'll have to see where Captain Marvel fits in to her role. However, I am sure it'll all be wonderful.
You really cant trust imdb anymore after what they have done in the past to scores and who owns the site now. The only place that has somewhat accurate scores is Metacritic. And for this film thats a critics rating of 50/100 and a viewer rating of 3.8/10.

I was warching some random meltdown videos recently and there was one were a woman tried to kick a policeman in the nuts and he knocked her out immediately.
That stuff is so normalised that some broad thought she could kick an armed USA policeman in the nuts and get away with it.
