Yep the War of Art is a decent album. Same as Andybtsn I thought they disbanded after one of their members died. Anyway more nu metal stuff...

Both good bands so do it :), although Breed 77 have a new singer.

Had forgotten the lead had change for Breed 77 as he was Paul Isola was a great front man, reviews seem ok for his replacement but without the vocal range :(

Still remember them opening Download on the Sunday in 2006 where they played one of the best sets of the weekend, made some of the later bands look very very ordinary

Yeah I had similar progressions with many genres of metal.

I didn't get into black metal until I listened to Enslaved's "Vertebrae" album which had progressive rock/metal influences particularly being a Tool fan ..... then it was Satyricon's black 'n roll albums.

you also mentioned satyricon. i really can't get into their black n roll thing. i find the riffs on the later albums so boring

having said that i went and see them last monday :p good live performance but on record they aren't much of a force any more

^^ Thats great, Vertebrae is the only album of theirs I've listened to and didn't do much for me.

A lot of metal is too loud for me these days haha (old before my time) but I'll consider checking out more of their stuff.

Their early stuff is very good and Monumension is worth a listen for some great prog riffness.

That band should just pack it in now, he was an integral part of the sound, cartainly not some muppets banging on beer kegs!

Agreed, Slipknot without Joey won't be slipknot. Its not like he wasn't a good drummer or involved in the writing either...

I noticed on Stone sours website the other day, that Jim Root isnt going on the winter tour as he's helping with Slipknots new album. So i wonder if Corey is also thinking about jacking it in?

Joey was the first member to say he was working on new material and seemed to really push for the band to start writing new stuff so this seems an odd situation. I'd bet money on the band imploding pretty soon.

So Sikth are going to be playing at Download next year. Seems like they're still quiet on a new album but surely this increases the chances.

80s thrash rules. Or maybe I'm just old...

Voi Vod's Killing Technology is an outstanding album, even after 25 years.

Deathrow's Deception Ignored is my favourite of the mid-80s German thashers. They play some ace riffs.

Mekong Delta did some good stuff as well- The Music of Erich Zann is worth a listen. They did a brilliant cover of Night On The Bare Mountain (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4w90MBg7JoA), and a load of other classical stuff.

My band "We Fight Like Kids" played our first gig at the Underground In Hanley last night.

Congrats on your first gig .... I'm not so much into the metalcore but from what I've heard sounds good man. I know someone in Death Remains who you might wanna hook up with as they do a few gigs, they're similar to you guys.

Top album that ..... Coroner is another good old 80's thrash band who, like Voivod, have prog influences. There's been a resurgence in thrash in the past few years with bands like Municipal Waste, Toxic Holocaust, Gama Bomb and Skeletonwitch ... you should check out and see if you like any them :)

Ah cheers man, you got a FB or email for him?

In other news, here is a video teaser of our live performance

Yup, went mental when I heard this. The best modern metal band out the UK :D Dillinger Escape Plan also playing. Seen both bands in the past. Can't wait.
