Meh I'm sure that thrash metal song posted above is good, but thrash just sounds immature to me nowadays. It just sounds like a band trying to be as loud as possible and I don't even get a kick from the guitar flourishes or anything anymore.

I'm the same with black metal aswell well I never was much of a fan but it just sounds childish, like a band trying to annoy people as much as they can.

:( the only metal I like anymore is progressive metal, and Meshuggah.

Sounds like you're getting old before your time!:D

I don't like categorising music, you call it thrash, to me it's just a good, solid Heavy rock song, a pretty straight forward mid-paced chugger with all the attitude, swagger and anger of youth, nothing ground breaking but It appeals to the angry teenager that still lurks somewhere within me!(I hope he never leaves).;)

It took me years, literally years to get into black metal. I just didn't get it at all and it all sounded boring. I believe with absolutely any genre you can find your own breakthrough album which will unlock it and give you the map to the rest of the style.

My metal roadmap was gothic metal *entry point* for many years > progressive > death > thrash > black *current point*

There are still some subgenres that elude me, like folk, doom and power metal. I just don't 'get' those yet, though I imagine I will over time.

Listening to the new Trivium album, its OK but they will never better Ascendancy .

I have every intention of listening to that, but I can't get past the new Protest the Hero album. I think I've listened to it every day for the last week, incredibly good.

Yeah I had similar progressions with many genres of metal.

I didn't get into black metal until I listened to Enslaved's "Vertebrae" album which had progressive rock/metal influences particularly being a Tool fan ..... then it was Satyricon's black 'n roll albums.

Again I'm not too crazy about death metal but there are some bands that got me into the genre such as Obituary with their groove based death metal and Entombed with their death 'n roll.

With doom, the gateway would be Soundgraden's more Black Sabbath influenced songs and of course Black Sabbath themselves. Doom also has influences from stoner music so Kyuss was also that bridge for me for bands like Electric Wizard.

I'm not really into power metal as I'm not a huge fan of falsetto type vocals (Rob Halford though would be an exception ;)) and overly twiddly guitars.

I'm going to be controversial here and say that I'm also a huge Weezer fan and find them a lot more "metal" than most of the flavour of the week bands featured in Kerrang ... so I'm gonna lose metal cred here :p (Although I did go on a nostalgia trip and saw American Head Charge last night haha)

I saw 36 Crazyfists last night, they were as good as ever. Armed for Apocalypse supported them which I really didn't enjoy but I suspect people might enjoy them in this thread.

I'm tempted to see American Head Charge and Breed 77 as they are both playing in MK in the next few weeks. Been a long time since I've seen either of them but were always very good

The War of Art is a great album, love this track

I didn't know they were playing still until I went through the Craufield Arms listings the other day.
