* The Metal Thread *

Just started listening to death metal again after a long hiatus...the new Suffocation album is sweet. Always loved this band they're so consistent and they also know how to write catchy songs with actual melody.

Frank Mullen has to be my favourite death metal vocalist.

Not sure how many people have heard of A Forest of Stars but if you haven't they are well worth a listen :).

I kind of like it. Like my long tracks. And this is a little bit folky.

Talking about folk, need to have a look on line to see what Agalloch are up too.

---

Low and behold, Agalloch have a 5th album out!!!

Killer be Killed album came out today, its rather bloody brilliant.
I've enjoyed the few songs I've heard but still think Max is too one dimensional.
I sort of agree with Ephemera

I got the album and listened to it a few times, some really good tracks but a lot of it sounds the same and a bit generic :(
Some of the lyrics :o

Wings of Feather and Wax is probably the best track on the album

I'd say Melting of my Marrow and Snakes of Jehovah are better tracks in my view, but its still as a whole one of my favourite albums so far this year.

Anyone heard of Leprous? Their 2013 album "Coal" was my favourite album from last year.

They have quite a unique sound...if you asked me what band they sounded like I couldn't tell you. Also they can sound completely different on different songs.

A couple of songs from Coal...

Listened to Bilateral a fair bit when it was released but didn't realise they had a new album since. To me they sound like a cross between modern Cynic and Ihsahn which is no bad thing.

Been on a bit of a melodic death metal binge recently...

Dark Tranquility...that brings back memories. I used to absolutely love them :D

Some melodic black metal:

Naglfar - Unleash Hell

new in flames song - rusted nail :D from their new album

anyone else into in flames?

hope their new album will be good
quite like this song altho hope they have some more powerful songs on the new album

Not much of a melodic death metal fan...I find listening to a In Flames album for example...all the songs just blend together and when I stop listening I can't remember a lot of it.

I'm the same with Deathcore and Doom, despite friends nagging me to listen to this and that I just can't differentiate between bands and/or songs.
Have you given early Melodic Death a chance? At The Gates, Carcass, Hypocrisy, Gates of Ishtar ...

And probably my favourite Melodic death album, Resurrection Through Carnage
