The MSI Neo2 Platinum Owners Help Thread

To all you guy's n gal's that have made your combo's work!
(I salute you.);)
This is by no means the easiest combo to work with!
Good job dudes,I for once am "proud" to stand with you;)

Have to admit I'm still a bit concerned with the temps MBM5 is giving me. 52 and 20. Using the CPU fan provided and with two fans in the rear of the case just below the CPU fan:(

Did you try moving one of the case fans to the front to pull air in?

Also make sure (apologies if i'm teaching grandma to suck eggs) the back fans are blowing air out when you do this :)

Also if you've reseated the heatsink a few times you should probably reapply thermal paste.

Ok guys, give me the lowdown please :)
Would you reccommend this board to others ?
Have you resolved your issues (temp readings aside).
Is it stable ?
Does it clock well ?
If you could choose again, would you buy the same ?

Ta :)

Yep im pleased with mine, according to mbm5 my temps range from 36-42 depending on weather.

Currently sorting watercooling out atm so hopefully i'll be hitting 2700mhz stable......i had 2640 on air but i never primed it :D

Voltage adjustments are good and after having the 754 Neo platinum and now the 939 i can say they are pretty good boards.

There can't be anyone on these forums thats not had some problems with NF3 boards.......

Same for the NF2 chipset as well though, if you cast your minds back at how many Abit NF7/S threads were started with problems....then the DFI......

I'm happy and yes i'd recommend it.

very nice mobo there, makes my K8VSE D seems tame :p - not least cos of the DC memory and it being s939 ;) ... i like mine though - was a big enough performance boost from my old system anyhows

has loads of SATA connectors ... wowfkin

I'm getting about the same Carlito m8. 48 and 18.

I wouldn't worry to much.

I'm happy with mine....and I have Crucial Ballistix PC3200 RAM (all working fine btw)

I suspect that MBM 5 is reporting it wrong....either that or my airflow through the case is better than I imagined.

Its in a Lian Li PC6083A with 4 case fans and two fans in the Antec SmartBlue PSU. 2 In....4 out

I have a question on this board. is the onboard sound a hardware based solution or a software based one. In other words does it eat CPU cycles or would a seperate sound card be better (I have a homeless SonicFury atm)

I'm starting to develop boot problems ie. the screen being corrupted when XP boots up and displays the desktop. Sometimes it happens as early as the Neo 2 Platinum splash screen at bootup. It had happened the odd time in the last few days but seems to be getting worse. Just had to reboot about 7 times to get a stable desktop.

All my stuffs running at stock apart from my Gell 3200 1GB dual channel at 2.5, 3, 4, 6, 11, 16.

Latest Catalyst drivers and Neo 2 Platinum drivers.

Help!

Could be a temperature issue. Try reseating your heatsink and applying some fresh thermal compound.

Before that though, try taking the case side off and pointing a kick ass desk fan at it if you have one around. That will tell you straight away if it's temp related.

Otherwise, try reseating RAM, GFX card etc, making sure it's all in as it should be.

You could also try a Bios reset to defaults (using the jumper) just to double check its not a dodgy setting.

That's all ic an suggest for now....hopefully it is of some help :p

Cheers. It seems to be on first boot up after being turned off during the night that this problem appears. It's been on for a few hours now and I just shut down and booted up to check. No problems:confused:

I had a similar problem whereby it would'nt boot up first time without me giving it the 3 finger salute. It was because I ran my memory a little toooooooo harshly without giving it extra volts.

I'm back at stock now till I begin experimenting again at the weekend. I can't leave the missus with an unstable machine at the moment so its at stock till she visits her mothers at the weekend ;)

Well I changed mine to the settings I posted earlier over a week ago without any problems until the last couple of days. It's the first time I've attempted to change my RAM setting and didn't change the voltage either. Do you think going back to defaults would fix this? I've been happy with the memory settings I had at the moment until this problem happened.

Could this really cause the display to corrupt on boot up? I'd thought it was maybe my 9800 Pro or the the Catalyst drivers?

New BIOS for the K8N Neo2 Platinum

1.2 Update date 2004-8-30

- Support FSB to 450MHz.
- Support K8 CPU Rev. D 939-Pin 128-bit.

Also note...
This has fixed my temp reporting problems too.

v1.0 and v1.1 showed about 50-55

v1.2 is showing 43, which should be about right for me.

also they've added .5 multiplers to the Cell menu

ie, 10, 10.5, 11, 11.5 etc..
