The MSI Neo2 Platinum Owners Help Thread

i didnt even take the mounting plate off the back of the motherboard when fitting my Hyper 6. You will find that if you just use custom screws it works fine. All this hair dryer crap seems a bit dodgy to me.

Carlito, mine is the same since flashing to 1.2 bios my temps went to 38-44 last night and right now they are back to 54 :(

Wonder if the actual temps have gone up or just the reported temp has increased - either way its annoying.

Thought I had my corrupted bootups sorted when it felt like my 9800 Pro wasn't clicked into the slot as far as it should. Nope still there:(

Tried going back to the Cat 3.8 drivers that came with the card. Nope:(

I'm hoping that it is that my power supply (Cheiftec 360W) is inadiquate for the board and processor. As before when XP does successfully boot the system is fine thereafter. It's just getting a boot that doesn't end up with a corrupted screen thats the problem:rolleyes:

Can anyone recommend a good (preferably cheapish) PSU for an MSI K8N Neo2 and A64 3500+ based setup?

Cheers:)

Your prolly better off asking / looking over here as so many on that forum have said board.

Thinking...the larger tagans have a fair 12 volt rail that these boards seem to like.

Quick question for those who have this board 'stable' did you superpi 32 mil it if so what times did you get, also did you prime95 if (with its priority set to 10 - you need a password to unlock this feature in prime95) if so which version did you use, the latest version for me craps out at all different places so I dont think its too compatible with my setup. highest super pi gave me was 3,2,2,10 @ DDR480 Cpu @ 2.53 (later found out via folding@home that its not too stable as I get BSOD's) right now trying [email protected] 1.65V ram @ 3,3,3,10 DDR520 2.85V but tbh I am not even trusting superpi too much as it passed me @ 240 which was clearly unstable.

Anyone else using ballistix pc4000 with this board if so whats you highest stable speeds. dont think it will do any quicker than 3,3,3,10 for me tbh not with 2.85v and this stupid v1000 case with no way of actively cooling the memory.

Finally got my Fx-53 and everything is now set up. The board has ran fine so far without any problems, currently running the following speeds:

three-three-three-10 at 250mhz with the multi set to 10x and hypertransport is at 1000mhz (5x). Mem is set to 2.85 volts and cpu is set to 1.65.

I found that my memory (3700eb) failed Prime95 with anything over 205mhz but I've ran both quake 3 and doom3's timedemo's several times now without any problems. Still cant play doom3 or farcry properly untill I recieve my ultra, hope its soon. Doom3 doesnt take kindly to a passively cooled (by accident) ti4200

I have one problem/ concern however, I set the Vcore to 1.65 in bios but on Core Center its only showing as 1.58, any ideas anyone.

Also whats going on with Nvlan and the firewall thing, I cant see the settings for it anywhere, even on the install cd. I assume you have to install something from the nvidia site.

Finally some good news for me, the board decided that it doesnt mind HTT260 1:[email protected] 3,3,3,10 [email protected] 1.65v. running @ 220HTT 2.4ghz, DDR440 2.7V 2.5,2,2,5 seems stable, the stupid v1000 case gets too hot @ 260HTT although it is 100% stable I just dont like the sauna like room. had to also drop my 6800gt from 430/1.15 to 420/1.14.

With regards to stability I found that the games CMR4 and toca RD2 really work the whole system to literally breaking point when set to max everything, doom3 doesnt even come close to taxing my system the way those 2 games do. cant jump from CMR4 to Toca or may freeze due to the heat.

In answer to the above question CPUz may say your core is at 1.58, but you will notice that when under load it will jump up to around 1.625-1.668v just idling volts is what your experiencing. Also how stable is your 2,2,2,10 timings and what volts? you tried folding and superpi 32mil, superpi especcially will poke any holes ther may be in your rams stability.

10 is the tras its suppose to be the best setting for bandwidth, but tbh I may change it to stock of 8 as I get no benifit from this setting.

First 3 is Cas usually set @ 2,2.5 or 3 3 is usually for stability over 250FSB 2.5 is good for anything upto 250fsb (this is in general) and 2 is good upto 217FSB ofcourse if you get really high yield memory you may be able to use the lower timings but generally 3 is prefered for definate stability, but bear in mind some memories dont like 3 or 2 and prefer to stay at 2.5 but be given more juice to go higher fsb. the second 3 is ras to cas this is one of the more important numbers for A64 machinces as far as bandwidth goes if you can get it too 2 over 240FSB then your memory is very good, usually requires a fair bit of voltage to get there though again 3 is for moderate stability, but 4 is for definate stability over 250FSB. The final 3 is ras to ras, the same rulefor the second 3 apllies.

Hope that helps, but bear in mind no memory is equal so dont always even expect what it says in the tin unless your preparred to offer lots of voltage to it.

I got the MSI Neo2 mobo / A64 3500+. So far I do not seem to have any major problems...

Can someone clear up for me, which DIMM slots I need to be using for Duel channel mode. Some people are saying slots 1&2 while others are saying both purple slots etc.

While running stock CPU speeds and a 6800GT @ 425 / 1.15ghz I got about 11,600 points in 3dmark03. I was using 66.31 drivers. This was slightly lower than I was expecting, but maybe you guys can tell me if i'm wrong...

Finally I'm thinking of updating the BIOS to correct the temperature settings. I was just wonder if this would affect my RAID array at all...

Thanks for any replys in advance...

James.

Use 1 & 2.

You fill the green slot first (manual says slots <bad)

Slot 1 is channel 1 and slot 2 is channel 2
2 channels = dual channel :)

Anything other than that is single channel.
