The MSI Neo2 Platinum Owners Help Thread

See here for my current Neo 2 Plat related woes:(

I'm pretty sure my mobo is defective. Will I need to RMA it (never done that before).

Would OCUK let me change it for the Asus Av8? Wishing I'd gone with it in the first place. I like the Neo 2 but this problem is really putting me off it:rolleyes:

Before you RMA the board try this.

Delete the Nvidia IDE drivers and load the windows IDE drivers.

I had a few problems with the K8 Neo Plat until I tracked it down to those drivers.

Give it a go, you never know. And you won't notice any difference in the performance either.

I'll give it a go mate. Get back to you later:)

OK I think I've deleted the Nvidia drivers (apart from the Ethernet one) and Windows seems to have redetected everything.

How do I check that this is the case?

I really hopr this works. Had another 6 boots this morning before I was up and running

btw, anyone taken out the unessisary mb fan? Im not sure if the "system fan" or the "northbridge" fans are the same. My is constantly below 20. I unplugged it and its still same temp. And my ears get a break.

Any effects of this?

Ok im about to fix a Thermalright SLK-948U to this board.

When im taking off the existing back plate on the mobo, do i remove the black plastic CPU surround on the mobo front?

Thanks

Rick

Ok, that back panel is screwed on from the front though, so do you keep that black plastic build at the front (which the screws go though and that surrounds the cpu dock)

Or do you get rid of that too and then just have the Thermalright there?

Thanks

Rick

hypertransport problem

My new mobo msi k8n neo2 is giving hard time

using it with 512mb pc3200 single channel
x800 ati a64 3500+
ata drive 20gb+80gb seagate
combo drive msi
WinXp

It seems that my ht is locked at 200mhz even if i change the mulitiplier to 5x 4x etc. Still stays at 200.

It only change if i increase fsb ie 220. I update all drivers even the bios to 1.3. It is still the same thing

Also im forced to use fail safe default to prevent frequent crash in windows

Plz someone HELP

Im a little confused by your post, but I'll try to help.

Your Ht will not change by changeing the multiplyer, this will only change your Hyperstransport speed, so if you set it from the standard 5x to lets say 4x, then you will get a speed of 800 for hyperstandport. To change the you need to change it from 200, this will obviously effect your cpu speed and your hypertransport speed.

Please post a bit more info becuase I'm not that clear on your problem as yet.

i can assure you that the NB temp isnt 20C. reconnect the fan b4 you do some damage as the HS is pap.
just install speedfan and then set the fan speed to 75%.
Silence!;)

Right, i tried speedfan but the fan speeds arnt perminant. There isnt even an option to allow it to be run when the pc starts up. Im happy with just leaving it out. The heatsink is warm but thats it. Its been running fine since i brought it.

yeah about speedfan.thing is i leave comp on 24/7
so setting once is fine. get your hands on a zalman passive cHS then in case you wanna o/c higher or just for protection.

Urgh well im having a nightmare with my new system. Got a 3500 A64 and when i put it all together it wouldnt post and mobo gave error saying CPU was damaged. Sent it back, was damaged, got new one. Tried again, again got same error message, so now this mobo is being sent back.

I'm gonna have to factor in postage cost for returns into any future build i do, I mean this is ridiculous.

Theres one problem with getting a new heatsink

Theres no way that it'll fit

Its just under the huge fan on the graphics card. There is about a 1 mm gap between them.

Speedfan reads the temp as 27'c, so i think this is quite accurate.

Thanks for help though. :)

Is that picture your set up?
If so, any reason for having the memory in single channel mode.

i actually never thought of that as my x800 pro is cooled by a maze4 gpu, so im able to fit a maze4 chipset block onto the NB.
yeah 27C sounds good then anyhow.have you tried at high HTTs though?
