With my Neo2 Plat. + Ballistix PC4000 @ FSB 200, it sets the timings VERY tight on auto mode: 2, 3, 3, 8. The specifications recommended by Crucial are: 2.5, 4, 4, 8 with a voltage of 2.8v (which is in the red with the Neo2 Plat).

I need the 3 hard drives installed, but can't overclock very well. Haven't tried disabling ports 1 & 2 yet, 'cos I really need the extra drive for backups & download space.

My experience with the PC4000 Ballistix and the MSI Neo2 was pretty bad. The only way I could get a stable system was to run very slack timings, on auto settings memtest86 always failed! After getting a replacement and having exactly the same problem I'm getting some OCZ PC3200 Platinum Rev 2, hopefully that'll cure my problems!

I am contemplating returning the ballistix
Ive tried memtest86+ in dual mode and it passes.
Ive tried the windows memory diagnostic test tool and it passes
Ive tried prime95 and it fails! (unless just a single stick is used)

ok, so prime95 is windows based, while the other two run from a floppy boot disk, but cant see that being an problem.

tried prime95 in safe mode and it still fails after a minute. dot is disabled, spread spectrum is disabled, memory settings all on auto, manual. only thing ive not tried playing around with are CPU voltages. maybe 2 sticks of memory need more juice on the CPU.

If you have a look through this thread, a few people found it failed Prime but was OK for an hour or twos gaming.

Think one of the tips was sort of ignore prime.

Officially it does not fit.

Note..

K8N Neo2 Platinum Not Compatible (caps mechanically obstruct pipe.)

Some have got it to fit by bending that cap tho.

do you need to install the retention bracket on the mobo for the xp90?

i ripped it off to fit on the current heatsink and im not sure if it will go back on as i had to literally rip the stock backplate off with a hair dryer and a knife.

So im not sure the back plate will go back on again.

I contacted Crucial regarding the suitability of the Ballistix 3200 for this motherboard. Its not 100% compatible and have offered an RMA. Pretty odd, considering their memory advisor thing on their website suggests its compatible. Anyway, I think ill switch allegiances to OCZ. or are OCZ platinum rev2 known to have problems?

Yeah, just read another thead where someone slapped in (unspecified) Ballistix and had no problems. The only reason I went for the 3200s was because the 4000s were out. Not had much luck ordering this set of upgrades. First my motherboard was out - now the motherboard is in, but the memory I wanted AND the OCZ booster is out :(
