The MSI Neo2 Platinum Owners Help Thread

Got my Neo2 and a 3500 winney.

Had a few annoying issues.

Won't pick up my 74gig raptor on the SATA until I switch on the nvidia raid go through the motions of going to setup a raid array then reboot and switch nvraid off and the drive works fine after that.

BIZARRE! Anyone had that issue?

Other issue was the nvidia network drivers that won't install because it says "access is denied" - all other drivers went on fine.
Tried to install - sw ide drivers and that causes windows to take AGES to load to the login prompt - 20 mins +
Without them it loads in 20 seconds.

Also temp readings are 40 for the CPU and I am using Asetek antartica waterblock which had my 2500m at 1.825v at 34. So I think it is telling lies. Core cell software says 43 for cpu and 7 for the mobo - I think not.

Bios 1.3

Also finding the overclocking options in the core cell a bit spartan. Guess I will get used to it from my old DFI infinity.

It happens to some people. See thread. (mileage varies)
Makes you wonder what the diff is when using it in sort of raid config mode.

No idea on your network controller though.
How can that deny access as such ?

Temp wise, it all seems a bit weird.
Someone on here tried it with a waterblock using sensors on and beneath the CPU, and got approx 10C less than BIOS said.
If you stick MBM on it, and use winbond diode 2 for the CPU, that will give you around 10C less than BIOS.
If you want to tweak this board, there is a huge thread here on how to. (bugs etc)
One thing I will warn you about is changing the HTT in the later BIOS.
DONT change it with the ENTER key > sub menu.
Use either + or - or PGUP / PGDN.
I forgot that, and it hung and hung etc.
I got it back, but took me ages to get the onboard NIC working again. :(

Tried to install - sw ide drivers and that causes windows to take AGES to load to the login prompt - 20 mins +
Mileage varies on this as well, but what version are you using?
If they give grief, the norm is to use the default WinXP ones.

The board is picking up my controller as CK8s so that is right - must be already installed.

Tried to reinstal with 5.10 and it just takes eons to get to the login.

The access denied issue is to do with the registry. I had the same problem with the network bus enumerator. I had to go into the registry and enable EVERYONE access to the enum keys in HKLM. That allowed it to install the drivers. Before anyone asks I am logged in as administrator. Even tried setting up a new admin account but the only thing that fixed it was above. Having the same issue now with the actual LAN driver but cannot find the area of registry that is causing the issue. I am thinking it is somthing a winxp update did wouldn't surprise me. Not got SP2 installed and I don't want it.

Not had the issue with any other drivers for the board. It is very strange.

Thanks for the heads up about the HTT bus changing will remember that one.

Is there an issue with this board and putting SATA on to 3/4 to get better clocks?

Don't think about using sata 1 and 2.

There has been issues around with people using SATA port 1 and 2 in regards to overclockability.
In other words, a high FSB might corrupt your hard disc at worst :(

Load on the MSI forums had grief with the Nvidia IDE drivers, so you are not alone.

There seems a difference with SATA set ups tho.
Most people (a few at least) disagree with that guide (in link I sent) as they haven't had to use sata drivers for single sata drive.
Then along comes someone who has no option but to use the drivers hence that page is usefull.
Would like to know why it works out of the box for some, and not others!

Had a bit of a hicup today. Uninstalled my Nvidia Gfx card drivers 66.31 I think which I had installed last night. Came in today and Windows wouldn't load.

Got in by last good config. When uninstalling the Gfx card drivers I was informed that the motherboard would have to be re-detected after restart.

Only thing is now the 4th quarter of my main HDD Maxtor 200GB IDE isn't recognised by Windows. I installed the Nvidia IDE drivers by mistake as I'd always used the XP ones. Uninstalled the Nvidia drivers but still no joy. I've found on reformatting and doing a clean install that the fourth portion of the HDD isn't recognised until the motherboard drivers are installed. I had reasoned that this was all that needed doing ie. reinstall the mobo drivers.

Anyone know why 50GB of my main hard drive isn't being recognised?

Oh and scandisc had to fix another partiton on startup too. It seems OK. Hopefully I haven't lost the MIA partition though...

Hi,

Have you got at least XP service pack 1 installed?

If not, install it and the rest of the drive will appear in disk management, where you can format etc

Good luck

I've never had SP1 installed previously and all four partitions usually showed up after the mobo drivers were installed.

It's weird. All I did were upgrade my Gfx card drivers on Tuesday night then all these weird things happened.

Windows update has been haunting my steps for the past two days as well as it appears a lot of my updates have been undone at some point. And I've just had to reinstal Media Player 10 as it had stopped working as well.

If I could just get this partition back...

A few problems:

(Using 3000+ 90nm, xp120, 74gbRaptor + 120gb Seagate pata, 6800GT)

#1

I cant have a pata and sata drive connected/installed in bios at the same time.

If I do, it post's, but wont boot off anything(even cd's).

Remove raptor - cd's boot, as does the seagate.

Remove seagate - exactly the same.

#2

Everytime I right click NVidia Settings in the taskbar, the screen goes black for a second.

Same when I click advanced in display/properties.

Have you switched the RAID controller on? then have you gone in and told the system the raptor is part of the raid array?

Then you can reboot it should boot to your raptor then. Then you can go back in and switch all of it back off again.

For some reason some boards you have to go through this process. It is described on the MSI forum.

Works fine for me got a raptor and a PATA drive booting no problem.

Tried that, wouldnt boot off the raptor as part of the array, nor when it was removed.(and it corrupted the harddrive as well)

Pretty ridiculous you cant simply use pata+sata together, think I might have to return it

well I have no issues using two drives together and CD drives as well.

you may have a duff board.
Yup, and luckily enough, my Asus a8v rev2 is also a duff board.

Wouldnt boot/post with 1 ram stick in B1 slot, now it wont even turn on(tried with 2 PSU and 2 cases).

So, 2 mobo's, 2 bad ones.

Joy.

Ok Im having a little problem with this myself. When it powers up it gets past the boot screen then goes to select windows mode (safe etc)

But then it goes back to the boot screen before windows loading screen appears, as if it has been reset.

Any ideas why this might happen?

One problem im having with this board, is dual memory (ballistix 3200) always fails prime95 after about a minute.nothing being overclocked, just everything on auto with regards to memory speeds. strange thing is, with a single stick of memory, testing each stick of memory- prime95 is OK. maybe this board cant cope with dual ballistix, or maybe the stock SPD timings are not appropriate. Starting to think ballistix are pap. maybe ill try one of the beta bios as the 1.3 one on the MSI website doesnt seem to have helped.

Ballistix is fine for me at 250FSB 2.5-3-3-10 1T 2.8V

8h prime blend torture test stable.

2x512Mb PC3200 modules.
