The MSI Neo2 Platinum Owners Help Thread

well, I know that the Maxtor max 10's and maxlines with Sata interface are proving to be a problem on the Nvidia Sata ports.

One of my maxlines failed after a few hours and the other one is not reliable.

Heres a question for the neo 2 owners...Will my memory do 1T timings at 2.5/3/3/7 @220mhz? its OCZ 3500 performance stuff bought from ocuk a year ago.(OCZ 2x512MB PC3500 Performance Series EL-DDR CAS2 (ME-002-OC))

Heya,

i brought this board the other day and its awesome, apart from the fan on nb. Its louder than anything else in my computer. Ive tryied using corecentre to clow it down but it doesnt work.
Is there any other way I can slow it down (without jamming a pen in it).

Cheers.

I got a 3 pin fan extension cable and stuck mine on one of my noiseblocker fan rheostats, but you could stick it on a fan controller

CoreCenter slows mine down fine

You have to change the CoreCenter menu from "Cool'n'Quiet" to "User Defined" (iirc).

regardless of memory do you need to set it to 1t or is that if you have the higher stuff i see people here setting it to 1t who have like ocz super doopa gold plated with non meltable ice cubes attached to it ram

or do i still set it to 1t with my lowley geil value 3200

and whats this this about booting to start with only 1 stick or has that phase passed now

Hi guys... same as the problem above really... the northbridge fan is too loud and i want to replace it with a passive one. Is there any paasive northbridge coolers that are not that high? (i have an artic cooler!)

what atx version does the neo 2 need, ive got a atx v2.0 Antec NeoPower 480W. are there any probs with this psu and that mobo, as I know gigabyte boards with a v1 standard have.

Ok I've developed a problem.

Opened up my case and removed my gfx card because i could see some dust in the arctic cooler on it. Spent about 10 mins cleaning the card. Put it back in and powered up. But now my pci slots don't work. I have an Audigy 2zs and a 56k modem in there. I tried both of these in 2 other computers and they work fine so it must be my motherboard. I tried clearing the cmos, even though i thought it wouldn't help and it made no difference.

I'm pretty sure the cards are seated properly and i can't see why they wouldn't be because i didn't touch them anyway.

Anyone got any other suggestions as to what i can try?
I would have thought removing the gfx card and putting it back really shouldn't have given me this problem.

I'm using the Neo2 with an Antec Neopower 480W. Not had any problems at all.:D

I am not sure if you can get them new from any-were, I rescued one from a dead old school via socket a board, but you certainly wouldn't want to use it on its own ... when I tried it got very hot under load.
What I did, I modified the artic cooler (I had too anyway becuase the ac for the x800's would foul the chipset fan) and then instead of blanking off all the section I cut-off, I left a gap around were the centre of the chipset is, and the AC blows cold air on the chipset as well as the graphics card :)

Alternativly, you can take the MSI cooler off, unscrew the fan, look on the underside and peel back the sticker and put a drop of motorcycle chain oil in (prefered over 3 in 1 as it has a certain stickiness for anti fling properties) and reassemble.
Just don't over do it .. one drop should do the job.

Could you give me the low down on it, as ive bought mine in a spur of the moment type thing and wont be able to use it for a month or so, is it noisey, is the 12v rail stable and why are there so many connectors?!!

The Neopower 480W is rock solid on voltages. It has two 12Volt rails which means that the voltage can remain stable even at full load.
The different modular connections mean that you only have the ones you need which is good if you dont want your case cluttered with stuff you don't need. Also it has the additional connectors that you can fit on the cables yourself for extra devices and at the exact position you need them to be in.

It has the quiet 120mm fan which is temp. controlled and almost silent.

Its the most I have paid for a PSU but, was money well spent in my opinion.

I suppose if I had to moan about something it would be that there is no cable sleeving and that you have to use the Adaptor on the MSI Neo2 Because the board has the 20pin connection and the supply standard is 24pin.

Does anyone know what BIOS I can use to show the proper CPU temperatures in the "CoreCenter" software? It just doesn't seem to match that in the BIOS when I restart my PC.

I think i have the same problem although i havent checked what the temps are in the bios, im running a 3200 winny and im getting temps of 50c in windows, is this about right?

Im using a £10 akasa fan but i thought it would provide better cooling.
