The MSI Neo2 Platinum Owners Help Thread

Im buying a new comp soon, based on Anandtech's findings, http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=2312&p=2 looking at their tccd roundup, most of the ram used will do 280fsb, maybe more...is this infact the case? Im getting a 3500+ and some corsair xms4400 twinx v1.1, along with the neo 2...are their findings accurate, and to be trusted? I want to be running 275x8 (2200mhz) so the cpu speed will be the same just with a larger fsb. Could I expect results like this? If not why not?

took me ages to set mine up yesterday came shipped with 1.4 bios only have a couple of concerns other than that i think it went ok even though it took 10 hours another thread

get like a buzzing or ticking sound when ot is working not sure if this is board ,mobo or tagn which didnt do it on my old mobo h/d is seagate barracuda ide 120 gig

also corecenter shows temps as 45 with stock h/s but 41 in bios and core temps jump all over place from like 38 then 3 secs later 45 then 39 and so on

ran prime for 3 hours with no crashes max temp with core center was 55

also looped 3dmark 03 4 times with no signs of probs

so hopefully am stable now

Ok i just installed corecentre and its telling me my cpu at idle is 41 degrees which is about right but its saying my system temp is 12 degrees! Thats not right is it?

Hi and nice long thread to read through :)

Might have missed this, sorry if i did.

Thinking of having one of these boards along with a 3500 winchester when I go 939, my question is concerning the Ram dual channel setup,

I have 1x512 and 2x256 Corsair 3200TWINXLL in my Nforce2 Epox 8RDA+ at the minute which I run in dual channel.

with this board being Dimms 1&2 and 2&4 for dual will I still be able to run 3 sticks as dual channel ?

In a perfect world with £100 notes growing on trees i'd just buy another 512 stick to make things easy but that is defo a last option i'm afraid :)

thx in advance for any help

you should be able to run in dual channel put the 256Mb stick nearest the CPU socket, next along should be a 512mb stick and then the 256Mb stick with the furthest slot empty.

I hate this mobo. I have never had any problems with other boards and now this one just takes the ****.

Problem 1

I keep getting the dreaded BSOD, not all the time but one a day i would say. Last night i installed half life 2 and it all went fine i even played a few levels! WOW, but then i decided to have a go on counter strike source. The game loaded and then it BSOD'ed on the choose a team screen. It mainly does this when i install a game or an app like quick time or sp2 etc. Mid install my rig dies with an error message - blue with white writing and then reboots.

Now i believe this is a memory problem. I have kingston HyperX 3200 BH5 runing at 2.7v it only says 2.6v on the label so i put a few more volts thropugh which did work.

Could i try 2.8v is this safe? I did use this seting and it seemed good but i dont want to kill the memory....

Also does the K8N Neo Undervolt memory as it undervolts the Cpu? Am i correct in thinking my cpu should be set to 1.5v to give it stock 1.4v?

Problem 2

The computer turns its self on? After investigation i have decided this is not a ghost :D. If i have my computer turned off and then turn the switch on my surge protector off and on again the computer will boot. Therefore if i go on holiday and have a power cut when the power goes back on the computer will boot.

The BIOS has an option to set the ' AC POWER RECOVERY' to off, on and last state. I have tried them all and it stays the same on all settings.

Any Thoughts?

Problem 3

The magic diasapearing optical drives. Booted up my pc yesterday and the optical drives where not detected in windows - but they where in the bios fine? I search and found a reg key to change and it booted and reinstalled them in windows.

Why was this?

CAN YOU GUYS TELL me what temp proggys you are using and how accurate are they please this core center is rubbish and throwing temps all over place

i have downloaded mbm5 but i am afraid i just dont know how to set it up correctley :(

No temp reporting proggy will be accurate, cos they all take the info from the chip on the mobo, which is hosed .. so tbh just forget it

Set it to the MSI Neo Plat presets, I think it reads right then, or use speedfan. Both are better than the core center rubbish.

You also need to update to the 1.4beta bios to get reasonable (but still rubbish) temp reporting.

1. BH5 loves volts, upto 3.1-3.3V is more than safe. Make sure you're using the SATA ports to the left of the CPU, not the lower right ones, these are unlocked and can corrupt harddrives when overclocking

2. Update to the latest 1.4beta bios.

3. Again try updating the bios.
