If you have so many PCs around the house, all with DVD writer, why not leave it in one of those? Access the Zip drive over the network?
Personally my main PC is tuned for gaming, and I leave my work stuff on a secondary PC. I don't even have a copy of Office on this gaming PC.
The main work PC is dedicated to SCSI, with mixtures of SATA and IDE scattered around the other machines around the house. A distributed network if you like.
I like doing this ways as it also adds a level of redundancy. All the work I do on my "Office" PC is then copied over the network to my gaming and email PC. So this means ever document I e-mail is duplicated round my house. Even if I haven't had chance to copy to backup DVD.
Darn - I even have a couple of old Win 2000 machines purely to keep some old scanners alive. Drivers don't work in XP.
My main PC is used as a bit of everything...
My Network PCs are all tuned a little bit for games, while my main Gaming RIG ( NF7S - Barton @ 2.6 - 6800GT ) which was my main rig till I got this A64 hjas nothign but games on, and is the fastest system I have, is also upstairs.
My LAN room is a converted attic, so its not really used till either last thing at night ( Just come down 10 minutes ago actually ) or when I take *** kids up and we have a UT sesh.
So, having the ZIP isnt a worry.
Yes, I suppose I could just use one of the ZIPs on the LAN, but the LAN isnt on permanently... Only when I am in there... I like to power everythign down when I leave, unless I am doing some rendering... Bringing a ZIPDisk or two down with me is ( for me ) a much simpler option.
Otherwise, what I would have to do is this
Copy From ATARI to ZIP
Move ZIP to PC in LAN Room
Go downstairs
Copy from LAN Room PC to Main PC
Go back upstairs to power off LAN PC
Go back downstairs to use Files
And then of course for when I want to mmove stuff to the Atari, its pretty much the same in reverse!
Much eaier to just bring the disk down with me.
( Why all this hassle? - All I wanted was to know if a ZIP Drive would be ok on SATA! )
