Wow!

RMA it immediatly. If you bought this motherboard as brand new then you should get brand new. OCUK have a 'B' grade section for second hand kit and it probally should have been in that pile. I expect it is an innocent mistake.

I agree
I was sent a 'B' grade when I RMA'd a Neo2.
Not really bothered cos OCUK have said the years warranty still applies.

'B' Grade is fine, as long as it works. :D

And RMA's often do get a "similar aged" motherboard sent back in return. I once had a Western Digital hard drive fail within seven days. I RMA'd this to WD, and they sent me a reconditioned drive!! Cheeky burgers.

If you have so many PCs around the house, all with DVD writer, why not leave it in one of those? Access the Zip drive over the network?

Personally my main PC is tuned for gaming, and I leave my work stuff on a secondary PC. I don't even have a copy of Office on this gaming PC.

The main work PC is dedicated to SCSI, with mixtures of SATA and IDE scattered around the other machines around the house. A distributed network if you like.

I like doing this ways as it also adds a level of redundancy. All the work I do on my "Office" PC is then copied over the network to my gaming and email PC. So this means ever document I e-mail is duplicated round my house. Even if I haven't had chance to copy to backup DVD.

Darn - I even have a couple of old Win 2000 machines purely to keep some old scanners alive. Drivers don't work in XP.

My main PC is used as a bit of everything...

My Network PCs are all tuned a little bit for games, while my main Gaming RIG ( NF7S - Barton @ 2.6 - 6800GT ) which was my main rig till I got this A64 hjas nothign but games on, and is the fastest system I have, is also upstairs.

My LAN room is a converted attic, so its not really used till either last thing at night ( Just come down 10 minutes ago actually ) or when I take *** kids up and we have a UT sesh.

So, having the ZIP isnt a worry.

Yes, I suppose I could just use one of the ZIPs on the LAN, but the LAN isnt on permanently... Only when I am in there... I like to power everythign down when I leave, unless I am doing some rendering... Bringing a ZIPDisk or two down with me is ( for me ) a much simpler option.

Otherwise, what I would have to do is this

Copy From ATARI to ZIP
Move ZIP to PC in LAN Room
Go downstairs
Copy from LAN Room PC to Main PC
Go back upstairs to power off LAN PC
Go back downstairs to use Files

And then of course for when I want to mmove stuff to the Atari, its pretty much the same in reverse!

Much eaier to just bring the disk down with me.

( Why all this hassle? - All I wanted was to know if a ZIP Drive would be ok on SATA! )

bazil - probally worth RMAing it then. Unless you have any other machine to test parts individually, it's going to be tricky to get a decent answer.

Resetting the BIOS to default is always worth a punt.

I assume this is where you are getting your MSI SATA drivers from?

Have you checked your memory is good with memtest?

Hi MAllen,

I found the problem, both my DVD drives were on the same IDE channel as master and slave but for some reason the system didn't like my slave drive (Toshiba) may have been the speed hacked firmware.

Anyway thanks for the help it's up and running :D I was getting the drivers from the above link.

Cheers
Barry

Bazil - great to hear you traced it to your old drive. DVD's are so cheap it is easier to replace than to fix.

FatRakoon - I misunderstood your LAN. From your previous posts I thought you meant you had lots of PCs in the same room near you.

Have you actually tried plugging in the zip to the SATA cable yet? It is the quickest way to know if it will work. And if that doesn't work, then I have already suggested variations of USB cable to try.

Has anyone here got photo's of a neo2 plat. fitted with the thermalright xp 120 heatsink. I know that someone said it fits if you bend one of the caps out the way.

Does it obstruct anything else ?

Easy mistake mate.

Main PC downstairs inthe living room, one PC in the bedroom, which is the wife's and all the rest are in the attic ( This is converted into a LAN room )
The Main PC is connected to the internet, through a simple USB modem, the LAN room is all networked together through Ethernet, and the Main PC in the living room is also connected to the ethernet switch.
The Wifes PC has a USB Wireless adapter, and so has the Main PC, and the main PC has the bridge to get them all talking... I do have a WIFI thingy for the MSI Neo but this isnt being used, although it will be once I get everythign all sorted again.

Little complex but there you go!

Have I tried connecting it?

Not yet no!

I have taken it upstairs and I will throw it onto a PCIcard in a non-vital PC first... I know you say it will or it wont, btu it wont kill it, but I am paranoid as hell these days.... I will update you tonight on that though

here you go.
I have to wonder if it's worth the hassle tho as the diff in temps isn't huge.
See post <thats on Intel.

Cheers for that Split. It not so much the temps but, the noise of the stock AMD hsf unit. I did get a Freezer 64 but, the fan was broken when it arrived and I've not had any luck with sending it back.

p.s. I like your avatar on that forum. My g/f has that top too ;)

quick question>> HOw do i no if my mobo is using the RAM in DUAL, ?!? thanks Ash

I think it says at boot, but if you look here and scroll down to Memory, you will see..

Dual-channel DDR works ONLY in the 3 combinations listed in the table shown in the previous page.

That's either DIMMS 1 and 2, 3 and 4 or 1 2 3 and 4 populated.

CPU help!

i have got a Neo2 plat on the way and just realised it said only compatable upto 3500+ and i was going to purchase the 3000 which i would overclock or the 3200 but still overclock lol but just wondering if anyone has used the 3000 or 3200 on this mobo and any problems they may of had??? thanx

I have a XP-120 fitted to my Neo2 Plat. I (like you) was worried about all the stories of bending capacitors, but in the end I could put it off no longer.

I found to my delight that the stories are greatly exagerated. It doesn't bend the capacitor in question - more nudges it or rests on it :)

The only other thing it obstructs is DIMM slots 1&2 - makes it a bit more tricky to get your RAM in. Not impossible - just more fiddley.

Hope that helps :)

The key word there is UP TO. As in "this board has been tested with all A64 CPUs, up to and including 3500+"

Or, put it another way, read the thread. Look in some sigs. And you'll see plenty of A64 3000 and 3200 CPUs. :)

Including your own I might add....

Yes, the Winchester 3200 is certainly a popular one too, as I have.

I have had a bit of a play with a stick of corsair today, I have been playing abotu at 230FSBand its rock steady with stock everythings, but unfortunately its only a single 512MB stick, and I would rather play with 1GB at 166 as I am doing, than suffer only 512MB RAM.

The RAM is so far, the only problem I do have... I dont have a matching pair, but plenty of various mixed up RAM, and even the stuff that plays good speeds on my socketA system, this will only play ball at 166FSB, which is a bit of a nipple.

i want to get into the hidden features in the bios which is supposed to be press and hold shift+f2 then press alt+f3 this does not work for me...i want to turn off the ati overclock feature which is i think causing my x800xt to freeze in bf2...
