The MSI Neo2 Platinum Owners Help Thread

Have been looking everywhere to get a Thermaltake Big Typhoon for my opty 146 which is going in the neo2 I am planning to get next week but have had no joy as everywhere is out of stock; could someone give me suggestions for a good cooler which will give good clocks as well as fit the neo2 please.

Also whilst looking around at prices for the neo2 I have seen the 'platinums' as well as the 'neo2 fx' - are these the same and if not whats the difference and which should I go for.

many thanks for help.

ok, ive got:

venice 3500+ @ 2.3mhz (11*210) 5x HTT mem @ v2.85 & cpu @ v1.475.

i am running my OCZ Gold 3200+ BH5 chips at 210MHz 2-3-3-10 -1t, thats what it says in bios, however the program Sisoft 2005 shows the memoery as 2-3-3-10 -2t anyone know why? is this the program reading it wrong or the motherboard not changing it??

Drop the HTT down to 4x anyway. 1000 is a pretty solid ceiling.

Sandra Lite 2005 says on my rig (under Memory benchmark):
Logical/Chipset 2 Memory Banks
Bank 0 : 512MB DDR-SDRAM 2.0-2-2-2 2CMD
Channels : 1
Speed : 2x 200MHz (400MHz data rate)
Width : 128-bit
Maximum Memory Bus Bandwidth : 6400MB/s (estimated)

whereas CPU-Z says 2-2-2-8 (CMD unspecified). I'm more inclined to believe CPU-Z, but have no way of knowing which one's telling the truth if the bios is indeed being overridden. 2 Tras??? doesn't make sense.

I got good results with an Aerocool ht101, and even better cooling when I replaced that with a Vapochill micro extreme, with the fan turned down (it comes with a controller) its quite quiet, or you can turn it up to noisy, but you have to screw the case down to stop it hovering :D

Pimp pimp! I also have a MSI K8 neo 2 platinum for sale in the MM if your interested! :D

How much undervolting do you guys get?

Bios is set to max - 1.55 + 10%.. which should be 1.7v but MBM & CPU-Z show a max volt of 1.6 which could be holding the chip back.

not sure why sandra states this, ive tried updating it too.... anyone else know?

PS. Why change the HTT to 4x?? Mine runs fine at 5x no problems what so ever!!

That's the problem I'm having with my 144 opteron. Can get up to about 295HTT with 1.6 vcore but no matter what settings use the vcore won't go any higher. It's driving me mad cos I really want to hit 300HTT x9 for a nice round 2.7GHz
Tried going back to the 1.36mod and did manage to get about 1.66v but it wasn't anywhere near as stable as my current bios.

I'm having a strange problem with the bios on this board.

I flashed to 1.B0 using the live update utility. Now the machine boots windows correctly, however if I attempt to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL at boot, all I get is a black screen with a flashing cursor in the upper right of the screen.

If I reset I can again get back into windows, however the only way to get into the bios again is to reset it using JBAT1, and then press DEL on boot. This allows me to get in and adjust settings, however once these are saved and I reboot it is again not possible to enter the BIOS.

I've seen this problem mentioned before in this thread, but not seen a definitive answer, I was wondering if anybody had found a solution yet?

Thanks.

First of all....... Welcome to the forums!

Really I would only use the award flasher to flash BIOS's on this board and make sure you use the switches too. then reset the CMOS jumper before trying to boot up. then everything should be fine. ;)

I had that problem, tripitaka.

My workaround is to send more voltage to the ram (using an OCZ DDR Booster).
It might be possible to sort it out by going into the bios and upping the voltage in the ram options, but haven't tried it. For reference I put 3.1V through my Ballistix DDR3200 (a pair of 256MB strips). New ram coming on Monday... yay!
