The MSI Neo2 Platinum Owners Help Thread

i have both pcs running fine now i built them for my friends.the second one still took a few reboots to let me into the bios though.my own pc has been updated within windows with no probs at all but that is one of the first boards released the other 2 may be later revisions...

man i wish i had read this thread as i updated aswell and getting the same prob but searched on msi site and a fix was up

i used the winflash still but ticked the boxes boot and one underneath then clicked the water sign and loaded the 1.8 bios it then reflashed ti with this

thankfully comp booted up and let me into bios no probs done all settings and i think its running fine but

Anyone know if i can have just four seperate drives on the onboard sata?
e.g. No raid, every drive appears as itself.

Yes, you can do that. just turn off the raid in the bios. they are then classed as IDE Ports.

Just remember that any drives connected to SATA ports 1 & 2 may end up with corrupted data if you are OCing the board - MSI (and everyone else it appears) recommend that you only use SATA ports 3 and 4 if you are pushing your board beyond 200FSB... worth noting

ok getting confused with the bios flashing issue. just upgraded to system as in sig and was looking to do a little gentle overclocking. ithought i would flash to the latest bios before i start (its on 1.5 at the mo) the only issues i am getting at the mo is core cell keeps reading the cpu fan as 0 momentarily.
what problems am i likely to encounter if i use live update?

Thanks, I have just spent most of this avo playing with it (the computer that is!) and I have got it to 2547 283*9 @1.52 v
now one question i have re the volts is how is best to up it.. ther seems to be 2 possibilities, set the vid up to whatever, and the "cpu by vid" or set the vid lower and hve the cpu by vid +3.3,5 or whatever %. which is best?

Also nothing I have done seems to affect the temps. I know crecell has "issues" but sisoft also reports the same. is there a good program (One I can trust?)

Hmmm 2610.. 290*9 @1.57v mem@166 2.3.4.9 @2.85V

temps still reported as 33 but did go up to 35 briefly. dare I try more?.....

cancell that. it would do a pi calc but wouldnt make it through 3dmark03

ok 2565 285*9 @ 1.52 mem@ 166 2.3.4.8 @2.85 seems stable

no the SL-120 does not work with this moterboard. I just ordered one and tried fitting it. It heatsink fits ok but it obstructs the AGP port so i cant fit my graphics card in :( waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Is the SL the one that looks very similar to the XP? If it's the same (heat pipes wise) it does fit. It needs to be turned around so that the overhang is over the memory, and a cap needs to be eased aside. There is a pic somewhere on this thread (repeated several times) of an XP that illustrates this.

My main rig is back up and running again (after the trials experienced on pages 46 and 47). Took the time while it was down to sort the wiring out. I then put the DDR Booster back in, and turned it to 3.0V, and voila! It allowed me to boot straight up! I can't run at stock it seems. It isn't rock solidly stable, but I guess an extra 0.1V should sort that out. Ho hum...

typical, On the description it said they dont know of a board that it doesnt fit!
I'll have to order a freezer 64 then i guess.

Page 3 of this thread has a picture of the XP-120 fitted - will the SL-120 not fit this way round? (Not used the SL so I may be way off).

no the sl-120 will not fit no matter which way round it goes. I dont have a xp-120 but the heatpipes on the sl-120 stick out further than the xp-120 by the looks of the pics. silly isnt it . I've just ordered a Scythe Ninja. It looks a little more compact. I sure hope this one fits!!!
