The New European Super (borefest) League

Yes, which argues against your overall point  All your arguements about the value of the competition we've seen before, this is just the new version.

My point is the teams needs to be there on merit and I don't like CL having teams in finishing 2nd.

Same principle as i do not like this idea of super league teams being there without merit.

It is the same princple.

How does that argue my overall point? My overall point is teams without merit to be there through winning the previous season, shouldn't be there.

If we changed the name to "top teams league" would that make it better? :p

I think the CL is fine in general. Perhaps there are too many teams in it currently but that gives it the space the showcase the best teams and give some of the smaller leagues a good chance to compete on the biggest stage.

There is already the CL vs EL champions game each season that no one gives a **** about despite what it should represent. I don't think people would care so much if it was just a few games for the winners of the leagues.

I've not argued that teams shouldn't be there on merit. I replied to your point that this competition would be valued the same as a pre-season tournament. The same things were said about the European Cup when it was formed and it's gone on to become the biggest competition in football. And the idea that people will not watch it or value it because teams haven't qualified on merit - the CL has gone from strength to strength despite building towards this stage already.

If Jose walked over this and other managers (Klopp) follow suit then I am done with football.

If Mourinho wasn't an inch away from getting sacked I would applaud him more. If Guardiola walked away from City, that would be a statement. Manager kicking up a stink on the way out isn't quite so serious.

How is this any different to now? Clubs with money and in the Champions League are already in a position to essentially cherry pick players.
I see people applauding Bayern for not signing up to this, completely looking over the fact they frequently pick up the best players in the German League for cheap, or on frees, thereby exploiting the smaller clubs - even Dortmund, Bayern's closest rivals, are impacted by this.
It's not different to now but I think it will get even worse is my point

I associate it with Friendlies is because it's pre-arranged.
CL now, teams get there on merit.

This Super League, a large selection are there pre-arranged. Ergo, friendles. Yes I know you keep banging on about CL started and no one will watch it, but has CL ever started out with teams getting there without merit and then fall back on just Champions?

It's weird that teams and managers complaints there are far too many games, then they keep making tournaments bigger, for more money. There clearly is a disassociation between the managers/players and owners. Owners wants money, more money.

Same in any business. People at the bottom care about quality of life for staff and the higher up you get the more the focus becomes shareholders and profits.

I'm coming in late to this story. But I'm not surprised these clubs are doing this.

They showed how its all about money when they stopped trying to produce or encourage home grown talent, something that made United good back in the day.

It's all about getting the big stars playing each other day in and day out.

They abandoned the fans a long time ago. When football went to pay tv it become less accessable to the common people.

How is the average fan going to be able to afford to see away games? I think season ticket holders (if they will be valid for this league) have been shafted.

Time to support the smaller clubs.

They just don't want to play loads of games against lesser teams, part of the reason why domestic cups have lost their magic is because the top sides put out reserve sides for the most part until they meet teams of a similar status. There's no longer the David v Goliath aspect a lot of the time.

Can you just leave and rejoin the ECA at will? I dont know if its a question that can be answered but with United already having left it surely theres no way this ESL doesnt go ahead...

I get that the current CL is old and it needs to evolve. But they've gone about it the wrong way.

Having a closed shop is wrong and disgusting. Some of those teams don't deserve to be in it, frankly. This is what gets my back up.

I'm hearing that some of the German teams are 51% fan owned, so if the fans says no, game over for them.
