The New European Super (borefest) League

How about a permanent hit when these clubs owners refuse to bankroll these clubs. Do you really think Mike Ashley will bankroll Newcastle through this?

The problem with this is that FA, PL and the little clubs know most of the money that they make is by association (either through fixtures or being in the same league as) the big fellas. You can't just kick them out.

In fact as we can see, in some ways, the big fellas plan is get kicked out.

Being blunt, I don't care - or rather don't care enough to see that as a bad thing. I think it needs to happen and better sooner than later. Clubs will fold/get rescued by fan ownership, drop leagues down and build up again and it will be back to what it used to be - a recreation, hobby, passionate fans, and clubs for those fans. It's madness the amount of money in the game atm tbh.

Is their plan to be kicked out? Not sure, I definitely think they've weighed the odds and think it's worth the gamble that they will be better off either way.

The more you hear about personal bridges being burnt around this and the bad feelings being created, the more it seems like the ESL idea will be going ahead regardless and from here it's more about how everyone else chooses to react. It's a great time to do it, because following COVID, they know the rest of their domestic leagues are unlikely to feel financially secure enough to risk their associated income by voting in favour of punishment/expulsions.

Longer term, once the PL is almost meaningless to the bigger clubs, you do have to wonder if TV money will dwindle regardless, as they'd almost certainly start fielding B Teams in the league to ensure best players are well rested for the big money ESL.

Well yeah, you don't care, and to a point, neither do I. I don't think anyone with financial stakes in any clubs would be of the same opinion. This has been coming for a very long time and the path toward it was taken with mostly carefree abandon.

Man City and Chelsea should have slung out for doping, Man Utd should have been slung out for ****ing off the FA Cup, etc etc.

The FA, PL and the little clubs would be wise to take the temporary hit now for a better long term future and sling the greedsters out.

What do you mean a temporary hit. The problem is that big rich clubs are big rich clubs. If you made Burnley as rich as Man City tomorrow they would be the first team out of the door into the SL given the opportunity. Morals and values are the reserve of the poor.

Ask people about the higher tax rate who don't pay it and they are usually all for it. Ask them again if they ever get into that rarified air and they deserve every penny and why should they have to give so much of it back.

Humans are fundamentally selfish and out for themselves.

Exactly, so kick em out now, withhold as much money from this season as you can for breach of contract and just accept they are divorcing you, there's nothing you can do about it, but pursue them for everything you possibly can claw back. Even if you don't care about the t-shirts and CD colleciton, fight for every wham cd and just-do-it collectable hoodie.

I'd have done it already. First thing this morning. No discussions, no warning, no "please rethink" just you're gone. you've made your bed no go lie in it.

Heart over head were all thinking the same. Get rid of them all, stop any monies going to them, including TV money and watch them beg to come back

I must be unique then as I happily pay taxes (though I do wish they were better spent)

There does come a point though where enoughs enough. This is pure greed. They are already super rich.

but when you're owned by investment banks and owners as part of a capital investment portfolio strategy there is no limit to what is enough, only more than before.

They (the PL) would probably have to tear up the rights deals signed with Sky (etc), or face legal action from them for devaluing their product? I don't know really, not a lawyer, but seems likely. If they kicked out the so-called Big 6 then Sky (etc) would be wondering what the heck they've paid all that money for..

You seem to think the rest of the league are in it for the love of the game mate.

They aren't.

100% Goodbye 2.5 bil a season deal. Ill let @BaZ87 change my username to one of @adam cool dude s choosing if they get volleyed out of the league

Just been on the news the super league organisers have filed legal action against uefa and fifa to prevent them stopping the league going ahead

I'm not sure UEFA and FIFA were ever stopping the league going ahead, they're just threatening repercussions for the teams involved?
From the Beeb:

"The ESL has sent a letter to Fifa president Gianni Infantino and Uefa boss Aleksander Ceferin issuing notice of legal proceedings in European courts designed to block any sanctions the two governing bodies may try enforce over the formation of the ESL."

I'm not sure I have enough popcorn to get me through this.

Yeah that makes more sense. It's not an attempt to block UEFA and FIFA preventing the ESL going ahead. It's an attempt to block UEFA and FIFA from sanctioning the entities involved.
