The New European Super (borefest) League

Be surprised if they do - how do you resolve that?

They can't just give PSG the trophy so do they go back awarding losing team slots? Making the semi's PSG vs Dortmund and Porto vs Leipzig?
Give PSG the trophy, a day later they announce they’re joining the ESL :p

It’ll be like Bret Hart taking the WWF title belt to WCW nitro

Aleksander Čeferin meeting with legal teams about bans to come into effect as soon as possible

BT and Sky did that at the PL's direction, as a way to offset lost ticket revenue.

Edit: I'm not saying that there aren't broader problems in football - of course there are. But citing them doesn't make the ESL any more palatable.
It was all interconnected. The PPV idea was partially down to games having to be broadcast and those extra games (if shown free to air) devalueing the ones Sky etc paid for. It was also a way of the League recouping money that broadcasters demanded back from them due to the late finish to last season.

German clubs are massively owned by fans. That is why they won't be joining this any time soon.

Maybe we also need a 50+1 rule.

a model we should have in this country IMO. majority fan ownership, by law. I would add that owners, execs and board members and their families should be prevented from owning fan shares to prevent undermining it

What could they have done that would have prevented this from happening? It was always going to happen eventually.

Hypothetically, and I know you don't like copying the Germans, but if PL clubs were a minimum 51% owned by their supporters then this wouldn't happen.

Yup agreed + as said a few pages back, though I think it got missed in the deluge of breaking news and comedy tweets

Pretty sure the fan ownership thing was a Corbyn policy that got laughed at.

Seen a few mock england line ups with the ban in place and the team doesn't actually look half bad!

Interesting post from ESPN about Bruno today

Bruno Fernandes has become the first ‘Big Six’ player to break his silence on the much-maligned European Super League.

Yeah, IKR? I'd actually be quite keen to see it! Just as long as it's Pope and not shouty Pickford between the sticks.

Because when I discussed the Bundesliga's plans for restarting 12 months ago you got very upset about copying the Germans :p

It's not an either or situation. They want to be in the PL and the ESL. And the reported yearly revenue from this Super League is likely to be considerably more than £150m.

I'm just reading what was said further up about the teams not caring about staying in the PL.

EDIT

Was wondering what the net gain would be.

Can somebody please explain why people are unhappy about this to me? As it makes no sense to me.

If you are a fan of one of these clubs this is good for you as your team will be playing an extra midweek match, you get to watch your team play more football, against better opponents than normal, and if you're a season ticket holder you get more football for your money.

If you're not a fan of one of these clubs than what do you care /shrug.

Of course things change a bit for their fans if the FA do decide to ban them, but then that majorly benefits people who aren't fans of these clubs as it fixes the issue English football has had for 20-30 years where the richest clubs buy all the top players and win all the things thus remaining the richest clubs.

it's because according to reports these clubs will get an extra 400,000,000 euros a season to be in the ESL, no relegation, no qualification. It takers away anything worth playing in the EPL and doing well.

It's a slap to the face of football because it's the rich getting richer and there is ZERO merit.

Is it good for Arsenal? I doubt it other than from a financial point of view, we'll get battered every week, the PL games will start having weaker teams fielded therefore we end up doing even worse in that competition too. I think the thing everyone objects too is that the founders can't get relegated. Purely and simply a money grabbing move and **** all the loyal supporters over the years.

Where's the point or interest in a competition that you don't need to qualify for on merit? This is purely a way for these 12 clubs to market themselves to wider and wider fan-bases, without any jeopardy of poor performance, failure to qualify, or relegation, and will mean that they grow bigger and bigger year on year, sucking players and money away from the rest of football. Day to day, there are benefits such as those you've pointed out, but conceptually it's disgusting. These are clubs that have grown out of their huge local fan support, then on the success of the Premier League, and they're basically saying "**** you all, we're off".

Season tickets don't typically include for 'non league' games do they? So not more for your money, more likely extra money on top if you want to attend all games. That's ignoring that once the league holds no value to these times as far as qualifying for top tier competitions, the league games included in your season ticket will potentially increasingly become B Team outings whilst the first team are rested for more important SL games.

If you're not a fan of these clubs, them effectively torpedoing the Champion's League in favour of their own closed doors competition is an even more extreme glass ceiling being imposed than the CL reforms already are. What's left to play for if the big boys don't let you join in their cup? You're only ever playing for second best and it becomes a worthless competition like the EFL trophy.

That's before you even consider the huge sums of money they're then going to award themselves for taking part, making it ever more difficult for anyone outside of the bubble to develop and retain any half decent talent.
