The New European Super (borefest) League

Perez has been doing an interview on Spanish TV.

I know the guy is a bit eccentric but it's mind blowing the **** he has been talking.
It's difficult to know which are the real and fake quotes doing the rounds on twitter.
The only reason he thinks it will save football, is because his club is in so much debt and needs to sell it's soul to survive. :o:rolleyes:
They usually just sell their training ground to the City and then get given it back.

England's new look team to play in the Euro's

----------------------------Pope--------------------------
Lamptey----Mings------Tarkowski---Justin
---------Bellingham----------Rice---------------------
Sancho-------------Maddison-----------Grealish
-------------------------Watkins-------------------------

Barnes, Ings, Adarabioyo, Bertrand, Bamford, Coady, Ward-Prowse

Not a bad team indeed.
I thought it was a bit of a naff team personally with far too little experience of continental football at the back, but I suppose most of the other countries would have their top players banned as well, even the nations without clubs in the ESL will often have their top players playing at clubs that are.

On the TV front you'd imagine it's now a case of the ESL will have their own digital streaming package so they can cut out the middle man, then maybe flog off some traditional TV rights on top of that if they get any takers

No Lingard?

Soo who cracks first? Seems to me the big 6 doesn't have a strong hand and is getting weaker by the minute.

They are bloody struggling to fill the league lol.

Surprised Rangers and Celtic are not pimping themselves.
That wouldn't be the case, as the Gina Miller case was challenging the authority of the govemnerment to implement Brexit without approval from parliament.

This would be done with approval from parliament, so we are not, not following due process.
Seems any changes would sail though

was on Skysports yesterday they are trying to sell it to the Saudies.

Yeah the same Saudies that Spurs were trying to get a 2.5billion deal.

And forum members talk about morals lol.

The PL have been shafting the EFL for decades can't see a problem with the new league TBH.

The bit that gets to most people isn;t the fact that it exists - there's just no competition for it. At least with the PL any of the 20 teams could be releaged (not likely) and replaced wit hanother from a lower league. The ESL has nothing of the sort. It makes playing in the lower leagues pointless because why bother if there's nothing on the top you can get to?

I think that's a little generous on Parish, it wasn't the only way, it was the cheapest way. It doesn't change the fact that Parish has profited hugely through owning Palace.

I don’t believe he has profited hugely. Which is why the other two Palace fans who rescued the club at the time were happy to sell their stake and Parish to reduce his.

A big issue for me is that clubs like Man City were really crap for years. They were in the 3rd tier just 20 years ago. The only reason they are at the top now is they got bought out by a billionaire.

Any other club could be bought out by a billionaire and these clubs want to lock them out.

Agreed, the closed shop / No homers club for other billionaires is awful. Also it's funny that 4/6 are American owned and this is financed by JP Morgan, it's like they've decided to not bother hiding anymore.

To these owners Football clubs are just franchises and I don't think it's impossible to rule out these clubs being relocated so games are played at times more suited to the US / Chine in years to come.

you pass it for all football clubs. It only affects the ones breaking away. The others which aren't won't suffer. Uber: The GLA and London Mayor passed local laws that caused them to overhaul their systems. That wasn't even national legislation. Do tell me why it's a bad example.

Because the government weren't involved and it was about workers rights :cry:

I've seen multiple type of these new English teams, no one ever seems to pick Keane and Calvert-lewin which is odd lol. Have those 2 in all day.

Only due to the initial backlash, if the league comes to fruitation then clubs will be lining up to join - except for the German clubs I suspect. PSG have already stated if it goes ahead they'd be in a difficult position and let's be honest, the only reason they're not involved already is due to their owners ties to UEFA.

Surprised Rangers and Celtic are not pimping themselves.

Give it time; if they get desperate for clubs you never know; although in some regard I'd actually understand the Old Firm wanting to join up; even the Scottish Champions face ridiculous hurdles to get into the "Champions" League Group stage; why the hell should a 4th English, Spanish, German or Italian Club get straight in to the Groups when the actual champions of many countries don't.

The CL is already to a large extent a "closed shop" you can't expect teams to improve in Europe if its made all but impossible for them to get into the money-spinning stages;

If ESL looks like it's definitely happen next season, I wonder if we will see international class players break contract with their clubs and join non-ESL clubs, in order to still play for their country (if the threat of not allowing ESL players to play in the World Cup comes to fruition).

For decades, generally money has won football titles, with the odd exception such as Leicester's PL win a few years back. Similar could be said of Formula 1 and Sky/Ineos' in cycling, plus no doubt other sports too. As a sports spectator, rather than my team always winning because it has the finances to have the best players/equipment, I'd much rather see much more competitive events because the top players are more evenly spread between different teams. Too many many sports have become far too much about the money and pay-to-win.

One of the biggest spectacle flaws with the ESL I see from what's been announced so far, is what the heck is going to motivate the manager and players of the 15 teams who are guaranteed spots in the ESL every year once their league position means they cannot qualify for the knockout phase.

Plus if PL, UEFA and FIFA ban the players from existing competitive football, will one match a week during the ESL season keep their players match sharp? Or will the superstar players steadily become more ordinary?

A lot of players may have clauses in their contracts that allow them to leave if the club isn't in the Premiership.

The irony is that the Premier League itself has ruined the competition in Europe as the money is just too big now. Old guard teams like Benfica, Ajax, Porto, Celtic, Rangers, Marseille, Milan, Inter and to some extent Juve who were decent teams just cannot compete financially and all their decent players that they had have long since retired.

You can already see just how dominant England has become in Europe. Standing back and looking at it now you just realise the current setup of European football is already a closed group and has been for a long time. Basically football has been buggered for at least ten years already.

This is pretty much not the case. Liverpool have dominated recent years and whilst they have spent money. No where near the level of United and City yet have a champions league and league title. We have won nothing in nearly 4 years and have spent crazy amounts.

Outside of the Premier League bar a few clubs however it is impossible for them to compete and when they do like Ajax & Monaco. Their teams get picked apart by the rich ones.
