If ESL looks like it's definitely happen next season, I wonder if we will see international class players break contract with their clubs and join non-ESL clubs, in order to still play for their country (if the threat of not allowing ESL players to play in the World Cup comes to fruition).
For decades, generally money has won football titles, with the odd exception such as Leicester's PL win a few years back. Similar could be said of Formula 1 and Sky/Ineos' in cycling, plus no doubt other sports too. As a sports spectator, rather than my team always winning because it has the finances to have the best players/equipment, I'd much rather see much more competitive events because the top players are more evenly spread between different teams. Too many many sports have become far too much about the money and pay-to-win.
One of the biggest spectacle flaws with the ESL I see from what's been announced so far, is what the heck is going to motivate the manager and players of the 15 teams who are guaranteed spots in the ESL every year once their league position means they cannot qualify for the knockout phase.
Plus if PL, UEFA and FIFA ban the players from existing competitive football, will one match a week during the ESL season keep their players match sharp? Or will the superstar players steadily become more ordinary?
