The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

Than the 16-50 2.8? Are you sure they didn't mean an 18-55? I have very little experience with Sony but given it's a first party 17-55 2.8 sort of lens, judging by the Canikon equivalents that lens should be brilliant, at least sharper than a nifty fifty.

Yeah I wouldn't say they are sharper. The 16-50mm is probably the sharpest lens I've ever owned, you just can't get the wide aperture DOF effect with it which is why I bought the 50mm f1.4.

Got these two and a Westcott Apollo Orb in B&H while in America. Unfortunately it seems like I left the charger for my Eneloops over there :(

Can't wait to use this in anger! Very sharp from a few tests so far. Was going to go for the Sigma 35mm but needed something a little wider and more versatile.

Would i be mad to buy another 5Dii at this time? Wouldn't mind two bodies again.

Those 3.5mm remotes do nothing but send a little high frequency audio signal through the cable every now and then. It's barely anything in terms of the power consumption involved. It's the same sort of thing as 3.5mm cables for headphones with pause buttons.

Can't see any reason it would be mad it's still a very capable camera and if your happy with one then why not two? The second had price is also falling like a stone in the currently stagnat market.

I bought mine from an ebay store. It was a bit more expensive than DigitalRev but it was the only place I could find that included the Tokina international warranty card. The service centre in the UK won't touch it if you don't have the warranty card.

I also had to pay import duty of around £20 I think (might have been more!). That was an unwelcome surprise when opening the door to the delivery man.

EDIT: Here's one I took with mine, I love the sun stars you get from this lens:

This arrived off the bay last week, my first UWA lens, I was lusting after the Sigma 8-16mm, but this was at a ridiculously cheap price that I just couldn't say no to as it was being advertised as broken. AFAIK, there seems to be nothing wrong with it, I might get it serviced, but I plan on taking it out and using it in anger and then seeing what needs to be done.
I could spend 250 in a lens repair shop and still have a bargain, it was that cheap :D
