Its not an L, but I have great plans for it. I made the sensible decision not to spend over 4x the price for 24mm or 35mm L. Its going to be my wide standard and as soon as the stars clear, star shots will occur.
Looking to get the Sigma 35mm soon and don't know weather to get it from Onestop for €715 or get it here in Dublin for about €800-850 to ensure I get a good copy?
Am I worried about nothing, about getting a bad lens?
@42: *cough* the Sigma 35 isn't even 1.5 times the price of the Canon 28
MobyDick: I've been told to avoid OneStop, they've been fine historically but I've only ordered a couple of lenses from them and never been unfortunate to need to try and return anything. I'd call in wherever you want to get it from to make sure they have stock as very few people have it at the moment. Grey importers and UK stockers alike are advertising stock that they don't have. Mathers tried to tell my Sigma UK had no stock at all, but SRS had it in stock and I got mine from them. It's definitely worth the hunt but be prepared to put a bit of time into finding one, if you're not buying it second hand.
Well, I got my 28mm mint second hand at 3x less than Sigma costs in UK so cant complain, I wanted wider than 35 for star shots as well. I'll pick up a 35 or 50mm next I think.
Fair enough, thought 4x was more than the normal disparity between the 35L and the 28 1.8 haha. Loads of people I know love the 28 though so I'm sure you'll enjoy!
Its pretty good so far, I've had the 40mm as my widest for the past 6 months so its nice. I know it gets a bad rap in reviews but I've seen great pictures taken with it, just like I've seen awful pictures with a 35mm 1.4
No stars have come out to play since I've had it though.
Kind of, there are a lot of fields around here (Lincolnshire) but you can usually find some sort of composition to work with if you scout in the day. I look for areas on google maps that don't have much civilization around then check them out in daylight for anything I can use as composition.
You've got to work with what you have. I would love to live somewhere like Australia or Canada for this kind of thing but I've got rural England...at least its quite easy to get away from light pollution. Scotland is always a more realistic option I suppose
Treating the gf to her first SLR, giving her my Tamron 17-50mm to go with it. I couldn't go without treating myself to my first white lens, all ready for the Grand Prix in China next month
