i've seen plenty of mention of the L bracket thing for canon cameras - what are they in fact, what's the purpose?
Well been a while since I actually posted a shot in here, I have bought and sold a lot from my kit bag. Here is the new tools:
New Camera, New Lens by M+M Morrison, on Flickr
Canon 5Dc, Canon 24-105L and a Gorillapod SLR-Zoom with ball head![]()
It's not just Canon. You can get them for Nikons (and possibly other brands too). There are also universal ones which will fit any camera.
They basically have the arca swiss mount both on the bottom and on the left hand side of the camera. This lets you mount your camera to the tripod in both landscape and portrait orientation with a single bracket. It gives you much more freedom for movement in portrait orientation compared to using the drop notch on the ballhead.

You might wanna turn IS off on while on your tripod![]()
Haha at scribbling over the 5d logo!
Thinking of picking up a Nikon 85mm f1.8G, $100 rebate ATM, so will cost me about $390 or £250 gbp.
Bargain but I a really trying to save money right now....
That's an amazing price. Buying it would still be saving money.![]()
