The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

I just got an X-PRO1 with 18mm F/2

Thinking I might sell the lens for the 35mm though, 28mm effective is a bit too wide for my only lens

Yep, apparently that's going to convince others to jump.

Do people have so little faith in the 5DIV?

Speaking as a long time Canon user, the gap has widened and been widening every generation for about 6 years.

They got quite a lot of catch up to do, I can't see them tweaking the current sensor can close the gap, unless they bring out a completely new sensor or licence to use Sony's.

I just can't see the 5D4 being at right price level for me, I can see it still being around the £3k mark at release. I can't see them getting close to the low DR performance either with their current tech/fabrication setup.

If I did sell my gear I think I'd bite the bullet and go for the D810 to cover off all I need. If I was only shooting people I'd be more than happy with the D750.

There may be a lot of L Glass on sale come 5DIV release :p

They kept the 7d2 price reasonable so hopefully they'll keep the 5d4 price reasonable too... Not that I'll buy one :D

Yeah that initial release price is always quite rapey :) I'm interested to see what the 7d2 price will be after xmas as that's likely to be when I'll buy it. It'll be interesting to see what kind of specs they put on the 5d4 to keep people happy.

My Yongnuo 600EX-RT should ship Friday so that will have to amuse me till then.

It's only £100 difference from the 7D isn't it? I wouldn't mind a 7D2 to be honest, but I've got a hankering for a 1D4 :D

Yeah when I first started thinking about getting the 7d2 I then decided I was just going to get a 1Dx :D There was a nice cheap one on MPB for around £3300 (yeah cheap! lol)

After more thought I went back to the 7d2 since I like the crop factor the way it is for my stuff and it's still just half the price at release.

Should've bought the Leica version! (actually it was the one to get before Panasonic adjusted the price of the LX100 to where it should have been).

Seriously though, the LX100 seems to be the perfect travel camera.

I have always liked the Panasonic LX5 and LX7. Nearly bought the LX5 and then a LX7 when that was released.

Then I decided that I would get a m43 system as my pocket/compact/travel camera. Now Panasonic basically make the ideal m43 travel camera. The lens I could live with for the most part being 24mm and fast throughout. One thing I would miss though is the ability to get serious tele reach I a tiny package. I like the 40-150mm kit lens since it is so small, thinking of adding the 100-300 for ultra reach.

Got some big life stuff out the way recently so treated myself to a new setup -

New camera, Ricoh GR. I wanted something smaller than my D700, pocket sized, high quality and enthusiast oriented so it was between this the RX100 M2/3 and Pansonic GM1. So far, its amazing, fantastically sharp, great ergonomics and customization. This will function as my wide angle lens for a while as well as a carry everywhere camera.

New desk setup, picked this oak table from Homebase really cheap to replace my old £30 tiny Ikea desk and also replaced my windows desktop PC with a 15" Retina Macbook Pro as I work at a university and could get them with the Education discount.

I was so close to getting an RX100 M3 after testing one in John Lewis but saw this come up for nearly £200 less, not regretting it so far. It's just amazing me that I have such an absolute chunk of photographic technology in my jeans pocket.

Not had much chance to shoot it yet as it only turned up yesterday but heres a quick macro test..I'm happy with the sharpness/bokeh!
