The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

LOL don't tell him that - he's got a 200-400 and the flash would have to be a laser to zoom that far :p

Think the numbers only go up to 200mm :/ I guess with wireless flash I can always have the flash closer to the subject and shoot from further away lol

Don't worry I was only kidding. The zoom function is designed to match the "breadth" of the light to match the focal length of the lens so power isn't wasted lighting areas outside the field of view and more power is available to light the visible subject. It can also be used manually to provide a type of spot lighting effect with wider focal lengths.

If you use a focal length longer than the zoom setting on the flash it just means you'll be lighting areas outside the field of view, no harm done. The 200mm zoom of the 600EX is a big improvement over the previous 580EXII which topped out at 105mm.

I bought a new Bag:

and a New Lens:

Bag was a bit of a necessity, at three lenses, 1 body and 2 batteries I couldn't carry it all without, and lobbing in a rucksack with other things is destined for failure! The lens is partly for a trip to Iceland, partly because I wanted to play with wide angle!

Couple of shots from this weekend, nothing amazing but no editing, and just grabbed as we walked:

Mrk, just wondering why you made the change to the RT's? Were the 565's missing something that justifies the upgrade cost.

I currently have a pair and was wondering whether to upgrade to 600RT's or just buy the 622c bases like you have. My 700d has optical triggering but it would be nice to start putting flashes out of line sight.

The 565s have nothing major missing at all in terms of power, cycle time and performance really. I just wanted the ability to have a radio trigger built into the flash as opposed to needing to attach the 622c transceivers on each flash to get wireless ETTL.

I always intended on getting the 600RTs anyway but thought I'd explore how good the 565 and 622C kit was until they came out. The 600 + YN-E3-RT now means I save 4x Eneloops and have a more time efficient setup as I don't need to worry about having to keep batteries charged for each trigger as well as the flashes.

I know the 565s have hybrid speed sync too but native HSS is a quicker bonus so there's that too for the few times I may be using it.

New fixed Clutch and Leash are finally one sale, just ordered the pro pack.

They also have an extra $5 off till Monday if anyones looking at picking some up.

Managed to convince myself to buy a Qnap NAS and 2x4TB WD Red drives yesterday from the rainforest along with a cheap SSD... For photos of course! :\

Just bought a Canon T5i and a few lenses today - now just have to wait upto a week for Portus to deliver ( not sure why it takes them up to a week to deliver items they show as in stock but it was a decent price).

After watching a few of the youtube guides/ reviews and reading a few articles I really liked the live view in conjunction with the touch-screen which I thought with my skill level would be appropriate.

Really lookng forward to getting my hands on it and starting to (re-) learn skills I havent used for a number of years both with land/river scapes and wildlife (not just that "wildlife" that wear short skirts either :D)

I do love that lens! I had it with me when I went to the shop to try the 7d2 and I was quite surprised how quick the focus was with the 7d2! Now I need to try it with my 200-400 :D

First camera I've bought from the UK too lol
